This is one of several bedrooms in our large ranch guest house in Napa Valley. We grow grapes and have a winery on our 500 acre property.
Guests of the ranch enjoy the unique experience of waking up in a beautiful and remote vineyard in the eastern hills of Napa Valley.
We serve a wonderful country breakfast each morning. You can walk through the vineyards, hike up the hills or just sit by the pool and enjoy the peaceful and natural surroundings.
The Oaks is a large bedroom with a queen feather bed, hardwood floors and four large windows facing ancient oak trees. The bedroom opens up to a large deck overlooking a lawn, flowers, trees and forest.
The private bath, with tub and shower is detached from the room and is on the hall right outside the bedroom.
The ranch is located approximately 8.5 miles from the Silverado Trail at Rutherford. It is a 20 minute drive to the town of St. Helena.
Susan and Jim are warm and friendly. Their soft spoken mannerism put me at ease and helped my vacation begin. We arrived in a hurry, trying to make an appointment and Susan was there to help.
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay here! A wonderful place off the beaten trail, the Rust Ranch appealed to us in almost every way. The rooms were nice, the breakfasts wonderful and Jim and Susan are amazing hosts. It is a friendly, family atmosphere that you should not miss. The wine is excellent and their knowledge of wine superb.
The hosts were very welcoming and we had a great first night sitting in the kitchen enjoying a drink and getting to know everyone. Jill and I loved hanging out with the horses and walking the farm.
Susan and Jim are very nice people and were very welcoming. Their place is part of a working vineyard and winery and they offered tastings of their fine wines every afternoon. The hosts are quite knowledgeable about winemaking and the wine economy of Napa Valley, and also of horse breeding, and they share their knowledge generously. That makes for a much more interesting experience than the typical B&B.
Breakfast was substantial, flavorful, and offered a range of choices to suit any diet. The other guests were fun to talk to. The indoor public spaces are large and comfortable and offer a good place to hang out if the weather turns inclement. There is a lot of horse paraphernalia around the house, reflecting Jim's passion for thoroughbreds. Overall, the place feels more like you're visiting someone's house than staying in a commercial B&B. ** My room (the Oaks Room) was comfortable and well-appointed, and was quite serviceable despite the fact that the bathroom is across the hall. The room was spacious enough but not large. Outside, the windows of the Oaks room are shaded by a broad and heavily-grown trellis, so if you want sunlight streaming into your windows, pick another one of the rooms. The pictures of the room are a fair representation, other than the room feels a little less light and bright than what the pictures indicate. ** The outdoor public spaces could use a little modernizing but the hot tub is great: a good temperature, bubbly, and clean. And the pool is very nice as well. ** The wifi was fast and reliable, however I could not get voice or text reception on my verizon phone without driving off the property. (My phone is a 3G phone, 3-4 years old; you might have better luck.) ** The town of Saint Helena is about 20 minutes away, and the drive is a pretty one through winding wooded roads and past other vineyards. There is very little traffic on the road. Saint Helena offers a wide range of restaurants, shops, and parks, and many vineyards are nearby. ** All in all, it's a very nice experience.

Our secluded property, once a large thoroughbred horse and black angus ranch, was purchased by my family in 1972. Now it reflects my husband's and my two passions: wine and horses. We continue to breed and race thoroughbreds and each spring; just about the time new buds form on the grape vines, new foals are born.
The guesthouse is a rambling ranch style home with racing memorabilia, antiques, a large commercial style kitchen, wonderful views, decks, vegetable garden and pool area. We have been hosting guests here for 24 years. We have met wonderful people who have become great friends. Most people who stay here have an adventuresome spirit. They are risk takers and like to meet new people. Your experience here will not be ordinary, we would venture to say it will be extraordinary and memorable.
The grapes were first planted in the mid 70's. We grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. The winery was founded by my brothers Stan and Grant in 1985. It is housed in a renovated hay storage barn. We took over the reins of the operations in 1990. I am the winemaker and Jim is the vineyard manager and horseman. Helping us handcraft the estate-bottled wines produced by RustRidge is distinguished winemaker Kent Rosenblum aka Dr. Zin. Vines are organically grown and dry farmed, we have some of the oldest vines in Napa Valley!
Jim and I along with our three dogs, fourteen cats and seventeen horses invite you to experience our unique lifestyle, enjoy great wines and unwind in our idyllic environment.
