El Raval is a neighbourhood in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, Spain. The area, especially the part closest to the port, was also informally known as Barri Xinès or Barrio Chino, meaning "Chinatown". El Raval is one of the two historical neighborhoods that border La Rambla, the other being the Barri Gòtic, and contains some 50,000 people.
An area historically infamous for its nightlife and cabarets, as well as prostitution and crime, El Raval has changed significantly in recent years and due to its central location has become a minor attraction of Barcelona.
The northern border of the neighborhood is marked by Plaça Catalunya and Plaça Universitat, and the street which connects them, Carrer de Pelai. It ends in the east with La Rambla, and in the west and south, the neighborhood is delimited by Ronda Sant Antoni, Ronda Sant Pau and Avinguda del Paral·lel.
There are a few historical monuments such as the Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp, as well as newer additions such as the Rambla del Raval, and the MACBA (the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona) or the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
In the southern part of the neighborhood an old wall and gate of the medieval city called Portal de Santa Madrona still exists as part of the Maritime Museum. The Raval is also known for its large statue of a cat by Fernando Botero, located on the Rambla del Raval. The city's most famous market, La Boqueria, is also situated in the Raval.
In the east of the neighbourhood, Antoni Gaudí's Palau Güell is located on the Carrer Nou de la Rambla.

- Most importantly relax and enjoy your stay!
I was met outside the apartment building by a very helpful friend of the owner, who took me two floors up to the apartment. The building's entrance area looks a bit scruffy (or maybe it's ultra stylish), with very rough concrete on walls, and a general air of being work in progress.
The immediate impression on entering the apartment itself was that it was just as stylish as in the photos, with lovely floor tiles and lots of IKEA furniture. It is in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the airport bus stop, La Rambla, and many sights, plus local shops and supermarkets.
There is a lovely little balcony, with a small table and two chairs, to watch the world go by. It was often really noisy for much of the night, a penalty for being right in the centre, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. Wifi was excellent throughout the apartment.
There were sufficient pans, cooking utensils, and crockery, plus a four-ring stove and a proper oven as well as a microwave unit, so preparing meals was easy.
I really enjoyed staying here for 6 nights, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the centre of Barcelona.
I did raise one issue on my last day, which was that the cleaners needed to be much more thorough, and I was told that this was to be raised with them.
This is the second of Kristian's apartments that I have stayed it. It is very nice and clean, and looks just like the pictures. In a nice and quiet area of town- the streets look a little rough at night but I felt very safe walking around this area. It is a short walk to the Rambla area and about a mile and a half walk to the beach. Bus and metro available and very accessible if you are comfortable with that.
I did not meet Kristian but one of his friends/ workers Danielle. She was very nice and helpful. Both are very easy to get a hold of if needed.
We would definitely stay here again! And I would highly recommend!
We stayed in Kristian's apartment for a weekend and really enjoyed our trip. The apartment is located just 5 minutes walk from the Ramblas in a safe and relatively quiet neighbourhood. There was some street noise in the early hours but it didn't last long. The apartment itself is very clean, modern and really spacious, with more than enough room for a couple and offers great value for money given the location.
We arrived early and were allowed to check in a couple of hours early which we really appreciated.
Overall highly recommended!
This apartment was awesome in every sense of the word. The apartment was located very close to everything you want to see in Barcelona. The neighborhood is amazing and has everything you could want. The pictures of the unit don't do it justice. Kristian was quick on text messages and was able to answer all of our questions when we first arrived.
