About this listing

The space

Even if my calendar seems 'full' for your target date get in touch anyway, we can often handle more than the site indicates.

TOT city taxes (11%) are collected upon arrival. Our pricing is based on beds/rooms used. Pricing is on our calendar. Additional people (after two) are $15 each if using the same room.

State your needs (beds and rooms needed) when contacting us so we can reduce the flurry of emails!

Sustainability and conservation are hallmarks of our lifestyle here. Tight showers are very critical for conservation.

This unique property is charming to those with eclectic tastes. Very quiet neighborhood yet just a 15 minute walk to the middle of downtown. We have private rooms (not large!) for singles, doubles and we can even accommodate kids and pets; and there is camping, either on our lawn or decks in back. Most of our beds are firm, comfortable foam padding on wood or futon pads; you'll be sleeping on custom tie-dyed sheets. Sunset views to the west and our most elegant two of the Seven Sisters Mountains is superb.

We are a short walk to downtown with food and drink available nearby in the historic RR district.

We have small dogs, all friendly.

This place is rustic, funky, artistic and a work in progress. There are some loose ends, a few weeds sharing the large and semi wild garden, and projects in progress. A few Daddy Longlegs and some other harmless spiders keep the fly population down. This is not an antiseptic, sterile environment. We don't have fifty pillows on the bed to drive you nuts, we have one pillow/person.

We practice respect for the planet and real conservation of resources to reduce our carbon footprint. At no loss to creature comfort we urge all our guests to respect our desires to offer a unique experience while consuming less in the process- in that way you honor yourself, your hosts and our Earth that gives us everything we have.

We also have BBQ facilities and plenty of wood if you desire to cook and eat here in that manner. High-speed wireless is available as well as a small archery range with three bows and many arrows if you want to sharpen your zen skills.

SLO is a special place at the very top of Southern California with great weather and many cultural events and outdoor activities that include hiking, biking, ocean thingies like surfing, tanning and dune exploring. There are streams and lakes as well, one lake right in town! We have one of the few drive-in theaters (The Sunset) left in the USA (marvelous swap meet there early Sunday mornings). We have the only solar powered theater in the USA (The Palm Theater) that runs foreign films and the few quality American made films. Our historic Fremont theater is a fantastic 1100 seat Art Deco movie house from 1942 where first run movies and many live events are held. The town is alive with many locally owned coffee places (don't go to Starbucks!!!) and independent restaurants (avoid corporate chains).

There is the ever-present wine industry with all its fluff and circumstance and our famous Thursday night Farmers Market that brings 35,000 people to the center of town. Lots of art galleries and the ever present mindless shopping for those with too much money.

If you are here for adventure Pete's place is the way to go! These rooms area unique and comfortable and the property is full of plant life. We stayed in the garden room and enjoyed the natural sounds of the night. If we're ever in town again we'll be calling Pete!

Pete was great. Very easy booking, check-in and stay. Accommodated a late arrival and an extra room. Definitely a different spot that a hotel or motel, but the place had a great laid back vibe and good people.

This is a great, completely unique place! A friend and I stayed for a long weekend - the space was really cozy, and you could tell a lot of love went into the beautiful garden, and the unique house. It was very centrally located, easy to access downtown SLO and nearby Pismo Beach / Morro Bay. The host Pete was welcoming and friendly. I'll definitely be back to stay at his place if I'm ever in the area again!

If you want a true Californian adventure - Pete is your stop! Be ready to be transported into the time of free love, nature and quirky details. Pete was extremely accommodating in terms of arrival time and communication was super easy. He had a few options when we arrived and we stayed in the garden house. Very clean with super warm blankets (who knew that it's going to be freezing in May?). Pete is a true local so he gave us a few cafe suggestions to check out and is amazing to talk to. Huge thanks for your hospitality, Pete, I can't wait to come back on a little artist retreat myself.

PETE is great guy with a big heart but also a real no BS man. There is no coddling on the compound. He expects you to have read the rules, get it right and then have a great time! If you have the opportunity to stay with Pete, I would recommend it. His place is so unique it's like stepping back into a different era. It's like an artist/hippie/anarchist compound that does not follow any common or traditional rules of lodging and living. He shares his space, makes almost every inch (including the various terraced front and back yards) available for some kind of "shelter", be it a full fledged room with a deck, to a loft, couch, shed or tent. The property is artfully and intentionally cluttered with memorabilia, ephemeral artifacts of past eras, art, friends and technology to remind us we are both not alone yet also so far away from "how it used to be". Pete's place is a trip. Please go stay there. And conserve water. Because while we may technically not still be in a drought, why throw away the fluid of life just because you can!

Socially liberal, blue collar person with intense love for most dogs and other critters. Somewhat travelled (Europe, Mexico, Japan), speak a little Spanish and Japanese. Passionate conservationist, artist, sort of jack of some trades.

I am pretty much a vegetarian and have simple culinary tastes. I get a lot of joy working my land and doing artistic projects.
