Sustainability and conservation are hallmarks of our lifestyle here. Tight showers are very critical for conservation.
This unique property is charming to those with eclectic tastes. Very quiet neighborhood yet just a 15 minute walk to the middle of downtown. We have private rooms (not large!) for singles, doubles and we can even accommodate kids and pets; and there is camping, either on our lawn or decks in back. Most of our beds are firm, comfortable foam padding on wood; you'll be sleeping on clean custom tie-dyed sheets made (by us) for Earth Day. Sunset views to the west and our most elegant of the Seven Sisters Mountains is superb.
We are a short walk to downtown with food and drink available nearby in the historic RR district.
We have three small dogs and a cat, all friendly.
This place is rustic, funky, artistic and a work in progress. There are some loose ends, a few weeds sharing the large and semi wild garden, and projects in progress. A few Daddy Longlegs and some other harmless spiders keep the fly population down. This is not an antiseptic, sterile environment. We don't have fifty pillows on the bed to drive you nuts, we have one pillow/person.
We practice respect for the planet and real conservation of resources to reduce our carbon footprint. At no loss to creature comfort we urge all our guests to respect our desires to offer a unique experience while consuming less in the process- in that way you honor yourself, your hosts and our Earth that gives us everything we have.
We also have BBQ facilities and plenty of wood if you desire to cook and eat here in that manner. High-speed wireless is available as well as a small archery range with three bows and many arrows if you want to sharpen your zen skills.
SLO is a special place at the very top of Southern California with great weather and many cultural events and outdoor activities that include hiking, biking, ocean thingies like surfing, tanning and dune exploring. There are streams and lakes as well, one lake right in town! We have one of the few drive-in theaters (The Sunset) left in the USA (marvelous swap meet there early Sunday mornings). We have the only solar powered theater in the USA (The Palm Theater) that runs foreign films and the few quality American made films. Our historic Fremont theater is a fantastic 1100 seat Art Deco movie house from 1942 where first run movies and many live events are held. The town is alive with many locally owned coffee places (don't go to Starbucks!!!) and independent restaurants (avoid corporate chains).
There is the ever-present wine industry with all its fluff and circumstance and our famous Thursday night Farmers Market that brings 35,000 people to the center of town. Lots of art galleries and the ever present mindless shopping for those with too much money.

The city is now charging airbnb guests 10% VAT (temporary residents tax). Be cool if you can pay your host that upon arrival.
Conservation is very important here, especially with water use. Be very thrifty please.
Ask if you need towels or anything else, we aim to please.
Our bathroom door is always left wide open unless the room is occupied.
Male guests are heartily invited to use the 'great outdoors' for 'lightweight' bathroom use. Just be discrete.
Pete was welcoming and very direct with his desire to conserve water. He has created a very interesting space with a surprise around every corner. My room was clean and the neighborhood was quiet.
I had a great stay here. Pete is a very friendly guy who is really easy to talk to. He set me up with the stand alone room in the garden. A very cozy spot with plenty of privacy. Only a lovely 15 minute walk to downtown. I would definitely stay here again.
Pete was very welcoming and helpful, no difficulties getting settled in. The house is a work of art, amazing in every detail. It was a pleasant 6 minute walk to restaurants.
My wife and I stayed for one night, and we absolutely loved if. Pete was incredibly hospitable, even though we came in quite late. Our room was perfect. Every part of this home is unique and riddled with character. We can't wait to come again and again! The atmosphere, the views, the people, the location, five stars all around.
Staying at Pete's unique house was a very cool experience. He has three lovely pets and his garden makes it feel like a nice escape in nature. Pete was there to welcome us and we were able to have our own private room away from the main house. The best part is that it is a short walk from downtown San Luis Obispo which turned out to be a really neat town.
We had a lovely visit with Pete in SLO. It's an artist's house and Pete has transformed every corner into a thing of beauty, as he says, a little rough around the edges (just like we like it). Our stay was peaceful and we slept soundly. Great sunset views from the garden. Easy walk to downtown. Pete is a very accommodating host.
We camped in Pete's garden for a night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Pete and his tenants were very friendly and welcoming. We could use the house as much as we wanted and there was space in the front garden for our 4-person tent. The only downside was that being in the front, we were near the streetlight so I think that we would want eye masks next time. There is also space on the deck behind the house to pitch a tent which would be very dark and quiet.
The ambiance of the property and house is very fun and eclectic.
The location is great, there is a lovely hill behind the property with trails to the top which gives great views of SLO and the surrounding hills. It is also about a 15 minute walk to the centre of town. There are also lots of great bike trails and bike boulevards around so it would be a perfect place to get around by bicycle as well.
Next time we find ourselves in SLO, we would love to stay at Pete's again.

Socially liberal, blue collar person with intense love for most dogs and other critters. Somewhat travelled (Europe, Mexico, Japan), speak a little Spanish and Japanese. Passionate conservationist, artist, sort of jack of some trades.
I am pretty much a vegetarian and have simple culinary tastes. I get a lot of joy working my land and doing artistic projects.
