Waterbury House is a unique property which has been beautifully (email hidden)d quite frankly could be straight out of an interiors magazine! It's in a great spot with lots of nearby transport links to easily get around Brooklyn or to head into Manhattan. Elissa is a super friendly and accommodating host...even more so considering we arrived tired and bedraggled from camping and a long road trip! She was quick to welcome us into her home and give local recommendations which we really appreciated.
It was the first time we had stayed with the host in a family home, rather than an apartment, but it was an excellent choice and one that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!
Jay and Elissa were such warm and disarming hosts - it felt like we were coming back home to friends. The description and info provided through airbnb was very accurate. It was spacious enough for us to feel comfortable for our whole stay of a week. The room set-up allows you to come and go without feeling like you're in the way. Location is great for a slice of arty Brooklyn action, and an easy commute (by foot, bike or subway) to Manhatten.
If you want a truly Brooklyn experience, this is it.
The space is amazing, a mix between industrial and modern.
The room is clean and has everything you need.
A truly unique AirBnb experience
Elissa, Jay + Cougar are phenomenal hosts; extremely welcoming and friendly. Staying here was almost like staying in an urban cottage: it's a warm/earthy and thoughtfully curated space surrounded by amenities, great bars/food and some of the most beautiful street art we've ever seen. The room had everything we needed and more. We hope to return soon.
Elissa was a superbly helpful host, and her home is beautifully decorated. The street art and the energy in this neighborhood are great -- there's plenty to see and eat within 5 mins walk from the front door.
Elissa does a great job of preparing the room for guests: soap, towels, water, umbrella, etc. -- fully stocked! The house itself is filled with art that speaks to a consistent and hip style. And the roof has views of all the murals outside.
Elissa and Jay are themselves wonderful people, and very responsive to text messages. I enjoyed our conversations about food, the neighborhood, things to do in NYC. Hope I'll be back soon!

About the Host, Elissa
My name is Elissa and I'm from Brooklyn NY. My husband Jay and I are enamelists and we travel the country exhibiting at museums and fine art and craft shows. We always mix in a lot of fun with our work. We love meeting new people, trying great food, and camping along the way.
I love being an airbnb host. It's actually one of the best things to ever happen to me. Almost everyone we host has turned into a friend. I think that's what I might like the most - friends that you don't know are your friends yet.
Jay and I are super polite and will make great guests and hosts. We are both non-smoking laid back people.
I love to collect american craft specifically but love all aspects of art, craft, design and architecture. When you stay at my house you will see how important craft and handmade things are to us. It's everywhere!
My favorite places to travel to are in Asia. I love Beijing. I seek out as authentic as possible asian food wherever we go. My husband Jay and I are very adventurous outdoors people. We camp 7 months out the year. We also have the most fab 9 year old son Cougar who inspires and delights us every second of the day. Doing things with him makes everything more fun.
