An octagonal glass house? That’s the best way to describe this stunning home. Wait till you see the views overlooking the western third of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, peaks of the Cherohala National Forest, Chilhowee Lake, and, on some nights, the Milky Way galaxy.

Into bikes or sports cars? You can’t get much closer to the TN entrance to the world-famous “Tail of the Dragon!”

What about wintertime? Check out the pics of our SnowBnB system. Yes, we actually make snow!

The space
Ben & I invite you to our unique property in the Smokies. Set on 12 private acres, the Glass Octagon offers solitude and an unsurpassed view over Chilhowee Lake (the southern border of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park), the western peaks of the national park, and the entrance to the #1 bike & sports-car destination in the US—the "Tail of the Dragon." This newly renovated, unique 2 BR/2 BA octagonal house offers 7 walls of glass with absolutely stunning views.

The Octagon is located one mile UP a maintained dirt/gravel road. We drive it in a Ford Fusion sedan and Chrysler Pacifica minivan with no trouble. 4WD is not necessary except in snow.

If you want the hustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge or get worried if you're not around the corner from a Walmart, this isn't the place for you. But, if you long for peace, quiet, nature, and the outdoors, you're in the right place!

The Glass Octagon sleeps up to 10 people. The upper floor features a primary suite with a king bed and en-suite bath. The bedroom opens to the massive octagonal room with the spectacular views we mentioned. Feel free to play the full size Yamaha Grand and experience its resonance reverberating off the cathedral ceiling. Step just outside to take in amazing dark sky views of the Milky Way from the hot tub. Relax on the deck while sipping a cup of hot tea from the hot tea bar. The seating area in the central room includes two XL twin sleeper chairs that can be used as separate beds or placed adjacent to one another to form a sturdy and reasonably comfortable king bed.

Wind down the stairs to the lower floor and into a spacious open kitchen and dining room with seating for 10 at the log dining table. The kitchen is extremely well equipped to cook for 20+ people. Chefs will appreciate the double convection ovens, 5-burner stove, large microwave, quality small appliances, plenty of cookware for large dinners, 30+ place settings of dishes and silverware, and wine & charcuterie serveware.

What would a great kitchen be without a spectacular coffee bar? Some things are sacred, you know! The Keurig K-Cafe Smart prepares all sorts of hot or cold specialty coffee house drinks. Any K-cup can be used to make a regular cup of coffee, or a shot of espresso. The automatic milk frother whips up hot or cold frothed milk for cappuccino, latte, or any other special drink you might want to enjoy. Of course, coffee syrup, sugar, and creamer are provided. Since everyone prefers different types of milk, we don’t provide that. Bring your favorite milk or cream for frothing. Guests can also prepare an entire pot of coffee in our drip coffee maker. We provide ground coffee and a selection of K-cups. If you prefer freshly ground coffee, feel free to bring your favorite coffee beans. We have a grinder. Don’t forget our hot tea bar and second Keurig machine upstairs—no worries about making your tea taste like the cup of coffee you just made 😉

The large kitchen/dining area will soon feature a propane gas stove. Currently, there is a wood stove in place but our insurance company is not able to cover guest use of the wood stove so please do not use it until we have replaced it with a propane stove. Relax on the sofa that makes into a short queen bed (queen bed width but twin bed length).

Round the corner into a wide hallway where you’ll find a cool mini game room will a multi-game Pac-Man arcade game. Younger ones will find other fun wall-mounted games and toys.

The downstairs bath has a huge walk in shower, and double vanity. This bath is wheelchair accessible, though you would need to lift the chair a few inches over the shower floor barrier. The adjustable shower sprayer is convenient for those needing shower assistance. A handicap shower chair is located in the downstairs closet.

The hall also opens to the laundry room. Guests are welcome to use it. Detergent and dryer sheets are provided.

Opposite the laundry room is the downstairs bedroom featuring a king bed (by request, this can be divided into two XL twin beds), a gorgeous Restoration Hardware twin bunk bed and a TV complete with combo video games. A pack & play is available in the closet. Should you need more than one pack & play, let us know. We actually have another one or two in storage.

Total sleeping: 10+ guests
* King bed for 2 in upstairs BR
* Two XL twin sleeper chairs in huge upstairs room (push together for a king sleeper)
* Kitchen/den - 2 in a short queen bed
* King bed for 2 in lower bedroom (can be separated into two XL twins by request), 2 more in the twin bunk bed.
* 1 Pack & play (more by request)
* Several double-height XL twin air mattresses with built in pump are available by request.
* Linens & pillows are provided for all beds. We ask that you not bring personal linens.

SnowBnB—
What in the world? We have our own snowmaking system! Basically, it’s a mini version of the snowmakers used by ski areas. It’s all automated to turn on when the weather conditions are right (typically below 28 degrees). It’s crazy how much snow it can make in even one good cold night. The SnowBnb play area is located adjacent to our Airbnb cabin (“Hallmark Movie View”), just a short walk from the Glass Octagon. It is the only shared amenity on the property. Trust us, you’re going to make fast friends with the cabin guests when everyone gets out to tube down the tubing hill or have a good old-fashioned snowball fight!

As mentioned before, the cabin is located at the end of a maintained dirt/gravel road that climbs approximately 600 vertical feet. It is behind a locked gate so you are assured privacy and security. Any car can drive the road (4WD is NOT needed), but motorcyclists should trailer bikes up the mountain and low-clearance sports cars may bottom out. In the unlikely event of winter weather, you will need 4WD. Snow rarely stays on the road for more than a day or two.

We ask that you include children over age 3 in your reservation guest count as we prepare beds, linens, and schedule cleaning time based upon the total number of guests including children. There is no charge for children age 3 and under. A portable crib is provided at no charge.

Guest access
Amenities include three smart TVs (feel free to log in to your subscriptions but remember to sign out before departing), DirecTV, high-speed wi-fi, parking for 10+ cars, space for those towing trailers.

We stock the house with essentials such as seasonings, oil, sugar, coffee, and powdered coffee creamer.

There are no grocery stores or restaurants nearby. Plan to pick up groceries before you arrive.

Grocery stores and restaurants are located in Maryville (35 min, 2 Superwalmarts, Kroger Marketplace, Aldi, Publix, numerous other large grocery stores, numerous restaurants), Townsend (35 min, one IGA grocery market, a Dollar General, and 8-10 restaurants in season, 3-4 restaurants in winter), Vonore (25 min, Sloan's gas, fishing bait, few restaurants, and Madisonville (40 min, Superwalmart, few other grocery markets, a number of restaurants).

You are the only guests in the house. There is only one other residence which is about 75 yards away, another guest cabin. The house & cabin are tastefully separated by trees which completely block the view from April through October. We are blessed to have a view of nothing but nature--in every direction :) None of that log-cabin-on-top-of-the-next-cabin like the big rental complexes.

* We welcome you to book both places for a larger group! Click on my profile photo to see the listing for the cabin as well as the listing to rent the entire 12 acre property, the glass octagon AND the cabin, to accommodate up to 18 people! Dining & cooking space for everyone in the glass octagon.
