Le Landry is everything and more you need as a home port to visit this most charming medieval village. The relaxed French country feel of the village is epitomized in the shops and restaurants. Wander the streets with no particular destination, you will discover magical locations. Need I say, look up to see awesome architecture from centuries ago. However, if you don't venture out to the countryside you will miss out on more of the true charm of the Dordogne Valley. FYI, leave the windows open in the apartment to allow the calm and fresh air to flow through. Ahhh...
Le Landry wasn't available but Philippe offered us his Le Renaissance property overlooking the main square, Place de la Liberté. This was a beautiful, well-prepared apartment right in the heart of Sarlat. A great base for us to explore the Dordogne. We would definitely recommend.
Only word of warning is it can be relatively noisy with the bedroom overlooking the main square with the entertainers performing until about midnight.
We were big fans of the welcoming restaurant, L'Entracte, below the apartment.
We booked Le Landry but it got changed not long before we arrived to an alternative apartment without any real explanation. I note this has also occurred to another reviewer. Not sure what the motivation for this was. However the apartment we were allocated was also fine and very well positioned.
As it turns out, Philippe contacted us right after the booking was confirmed to let us know that Le Landry wasn't available, but that he could offer us a larger and lovelier place for the same price. So we stayed at the Maison des Gardes instead. The apartment was marvelous, old stone walls and stone floors, wonderful furnishings, every detail beautifully thought out. The location is great, in the heart of the medieval town of Sarlat. I could walk down a narrow cobblestone street every morning to pick up a fresh baguette for our breakfast! terrific kitchen, totally equipped, comfortable bed, great bathrooms!
We did have a hard time connecting with Philippe when we first arrived late in the evening - I would recommend that other guests make arrangements with him ahead of time. Also the wifi wasn't working while we were there, so it was hard to get information or make reservations for our various excursions. But overall, we loved the apartment, loved the town, and found Philippe and his associate to be very responsive and caring.
This appartment is recently renewed and decorated very stylish. High level of comfort in the middel of the medieval center of Sarlat. Top location. Thanks
