We welcome guests to our humble abode and private backyard cottage. We try to live simply and healthy, conserve our natural resources and maximize our property's potential through our various homestead activities.

The Space

Our cottage is a converted garage, transformed by the previous owners into a 300+ SF studio space with its own bathroom, dining/sitting area, kitchenette, and sleeping area with a twin bed. For an extra guest, we have a twin trundle bed, which we set up at the foot of the other bed.

Some Features Include:
- Street parking
- Password protected WiFi
- Coffee & creamer, tea, salt & pepper, sugar, and honey from our past hive is provided.
- Mini herb garden outside the sliding door
- Two burner hotplate, mini fridge, coffeemaker and microwave
- Pellet stove or space heater
-Ceiling, table, and window fans available
- BBQ and outdoor patio seating for nice weather dining
- Public bus, light rail train, freeway, and shopping within a mile
- Weekly farmers market every Sunday 9 am - 1 pm located only a half mile away

Since there is no TV, this cottage is ideal for guests with laptops or tablets, using online websites for entertainment.

Guest Access

Guests have their own separate gate access to the cottage. You are welcome to relax in any of the outdoor sitting areas, hammock, and even use the BBQ. The yard is shared with our family, dog, cat, and two roaming chickens. We will be home during your stay so if you need something, just let us know.

Interaction with Guests

I always try to greet guests if they arrive before 10 pm. If I am unavailable, then I try to meet a guest when I return from errands or the next morning. I try to be respectful of the guest's privacy but always within reach if a need arises.

The Neighborhood

We are a two mile walk/bike/car ride to Alum Rock Park - California's first municipal park. Road cyclists would like the challenge of Mt. Hamilton Rd, which was part of the AMGEN Tour of California. At the summit is Lick Observatory. Within three miles is Lake Cunningham Skate Park - Northern California's largest outdoor skate park for BMX, scooter and skateboard ramps. Shopping is within a mile and there is a weekly farmers market about six blocks away, every Sunday 9 am-1 pm. San Jose also has many museums - Art, The Tech, Happy Hollow, History Park, Children's Discovery Museum, and theaters - The Rep, Center For Performing Arts, and SAP Center for sports, concerts, or shows.

Getting around

We have street parking available, VTA bus #64 is a half mile walk but it also is the most direct bus downtown and to the Diridon CalTrain station. We are a mile away from the 680 freeway, either via Alum Rock Ave or McKee Road.

Other Things to Note

We will be home during your stay, just in the house. Our yard is a shared yard with our family so we will be around either playing or working on various garden projects.

We kindly ask that a child guest be over 5 years old when staying on our property. Our cottage is not childproof, especially with the pellet stove. It is for your child's safety and preventing accidents.

If you book for a double occupancy, the extra guest is $10 per night. There is a $15 cleaning fee. These charges are added to your reservation at the time of booking.

The route to the cottage is over stepping stones and gravel. It may be uneven so please watch your step.

Please remember, Airbnb is more than a cheap alternative to hotels. People are opening up their homes to you, welcoming you into their lives. There are unique features to every space and each host is different. We hope you will enjoy the experience!

  • We unfortunately had some changes in our plans and couldn't stay. Leah was very responsive and we hope to stay there next time we are in the area.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is very nicely organized, with lots of lavender in the yard and a spacious patio. Leah (email hidden), available and accommodating.

  • WOW!! (email hidden) to stay and what a wonderful family. This is such a great little haven in San Jose. My colleague and I stayed 2 nights on a business/fun trip and this was the perfect place. The property is stunning - all of the beautiful flowers, the chickens!! and of course the cottage. The space is incredibly clean and everything you need is included - extra towels, even breakfast, coffee and honey from their own bees. What more could you ask for?! Relaxing, calm, beautiful!! We loved our stay here.

  • We had such a great stay. Leah welcomed us immediately and we couldn't have asked for a better BNB experience. This far exceeded our expectations! This urban farm inspired us to continue looking for more ways to live eco-consciously while living in the city. Thanks again!!!

  • This place was so incredible and Leah inspiring that I would recommend you go to San Jose just to stay here.
Ryan and I are very big into raw foods and Leah is a perfect example of how you can truly bring farm life back to the suburbs. All should learn from her and grow your own food, that is the only way to change this world we live in.
We plan on staying here every time we go back , for us this is our home in San Jose.
    Thank you

  • This place is perfect!!! Cozy cottage, lovely hostess and a bevy of homey touches made (email hidden) for the night. Leah was so welcoming and made us immediately feel at home.
The cottage itself has everything you could want for a good night's rest: comfy beds, quiet neighborhood , and coffee to make in the morning!
We'll definitely stay here again when we're in the area. Thank you, Leah!

  • This little cottage is perfect for an overnight in Silicon Valley. The wifi worked perfectly and the private little home is very comfortable. The host even had snacks and toiletries available. I recommend this spot without hesitation.

Gardener, Stay at Home Mom
I'm a stay at home mom, avid gardener, former beekeeper and creator of Rlittlefarm - our family's urban farm and homestead in the East foothills of San Jose. Born and raised in San Jose, I am very used to living in the heart of Silicon Valley. My husband, Rick, is a police sergeant who likes to homebrew and our two sons take care of the chickens, cat, and dog. We have traveled here and there - whether for school, vacation, or the military, via foot, boat, train, plane, or car.
