Nestling between the forest and the Loire, backing onto a hillside peppered with troglodyte homes, the town of Langeais is at a cross-roads between the Châteaux trail and the 'route des vins." A crossing point over the Loire with an historic bridge, Langeais is popular both for the beauty of its landscapes and for its fine heritage.
A prestigious 15th century château, in which the union between Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany was sealed in 1491, makes Langeais a vital tourist attraction in the Loire Valley. This mediaeval fortress holds many marvels: one of the oldest square keeps in France, a working drawbridge, and a superb collection of tapestries and furniture...
Shaun and Oscar welcomed us with a glass of rosé, we had a lovely stay and felt immediately at home. The room was great and so was the very hot shower! We accepted a french dinner one night and were treated to some very yummy food. The best bit staying here was the casual atmosphere, so if you have a love of dogs and a relaxed disposition this is the place for you.
A fantastic room in the country side. From the minute you arrive you are made welcome by the hosts who go out of there way to make you feel part of the family. The location is perfect as it allows for exploration of the local village and by foot. They also supply a nice breakfast each morning which further adds to the experience. A great stay, highly recommended.
A bientôt !
Nous avons reçu un très bon accueil avec boissons fraiches. Notre hôte était très souriant et disponible.
We were greeted by Shaun when we arrived in Langeais. Shaun pointed to our accommodations at the top of the property, told us there was DVD player in room and breakfast time. He did provide us with any additional information, such as: internet service (no info on what was the connection or password (he quickly mention it (he did tell not us how to spell it)).
He did not help us up a two- story spiral staircase (handyman carried our bags up for us). He had other work to do.
Our main complaint was the room was not very clean (floors were dirty, cobwebs in the room, and we found numerous spiders and mosquitoes in the room).
When I mentioned these conditions later that day, he told me to speak with the housekeeper.
Breakfast the second day was what was left from the previous day. We had to get him on day two for coffee since he had been awaken by the dog around 4 a.m. The last day there was a family (4) from Paris who he told to take the pastry with them since he would have fresh pastries each day
We hardly saw him very much, since he was writing articles for horsing racing back in England. We able to secure info from the handyman (Terry) about several places we were considering visiting.
We stayed only one night but had a great sleep and wonderful breakfast. Our room was cozy and comfortable. Patrick brought in a roll away bed for our daughter and it was perfect. Great shower, comfortable beds and great company in the evening and at breakfast. We enjoyed our stay.
