Homestead Brzov is a comfortable place for families with children that want to play outside or nature lovers that would like to unwind from hectic city life in a slow authentic rural setting.

The space

Our two floor house has 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, 2 toilets and an open kitchen with a living. It is located straight in the nature in its own valley. From the living you walk outside on two terraces overlooking our valley.

On our smallholding we have two houses and several small barns. On the pictures you can see the house with the "white" roof on the left where we live and the house with the orange roof on the right that is for rent. Both houses are oriented away from the yard and have therefor total privacy.

From the house you look over our meadows into the valley. In the meadows we have 6 horses, four donkeys and a pink pig. Around our house we have 3 dogs and 7 cats. Our 2 border collies really love to play and if you like you can hug our pig

In the neighboring village of Kralova is a Hotel with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and an outdoor tennis court. You can make horse rides through the Kralova mountains from the local ranch.

On the other side, 45 minutes up the hill you find the traditional settlement of Sekier and behind that the Zajezova ecologal centre. Nearby are the historical mining cities of Banska Stiavnica and Banska Bystrica. In the house we have for you an activities guide with the ins and outs of enjoying the country life.

You can reach us with the citybus from Zvolen train and bus station three times a day. By car you can reach us over the highway in under 2 hours from Bratislava. A supermarket you will find on 15 minutes drive in the city of Zvolen.

Our place is unique located in its own valley giving you privacy and silence with beautiful surroundings straight in the middle of nature. We welcome you for a stay at our place

Guest access

You have access to the whole house. 2 small downstairs rooms we have closed for clean bedding and for cleaning equipment.

We are situated in the country side. When there is a lot of rain or after the snow it can be muddy here. Not around the house, but around the horses and our entrance road can become muddy. In the worst case we will bring your luggage to the house and you would have to walk the last 400 meters. In winter snow chains can be needed

Interaction with guests

Since we live on the other side of the yard, we are usually there. If you want we can help you with ideas for trips in the neighborhood. We can also arrange for you fresh products from our farm and neighboring farms like milk, eggs, quark and cheese when available.

Other things to note

We have a good unlimited internet connection.

It might be a good idea to do shopping before you come up to Kralova. Otherwise you'll have to drive back 12 minutes to the nearest supermarket, down in the city.

Important! Electricity is not included in the price.
Electricity costs and our green policy:
Since this winter we have lowered our price per night, but we no longer include the price of electricity usage. It is very much depending on the guest how much electricity is used for heating. On average we see mid-winter an electricity usage between 5 and 30 euro per day, very much depending on your heating profile and how green you would like to be. We will keep you informed about your usage with a daily usage report. We ask you kindly to keep cash at hand to even the electricity bill at your departure because we have a lot of nature but no card payment facilities.

Our stay on Jan and Veronika's farm has been a highlight of our trip, especially for our kids. Really lovely family, and a very comfortable and spacious house. Our kids loved playing with their son Timo, and meeting the dogs, horses, and pig. We enjoyed chatting with our generous hosts and exploring the beautiful Slovakian sights that they recommended.

When first driving to this beautiful country farm, it feels like a million miles from anywhere. In retrospect, it is only 10 or 15 minutes from the town. So don't be dismayed on your drive up the mountain. Our host was kind enough to tell us that their driveway was not in good condition, and an alternate way to get there. That was helpful, but we still got lost. Anyway, that all soon disappeared after we arrived and Jan greeted us warmly. He introduced us to everything about the house, which is very comfortable, clean and complete. He also introduced us to their pets, which we truly enjoyed. Important: There is no place close to eat, and you have a full kitchen, so I would recommend bringing your own provisions (Tesco in Zvolen, about 15 minutes away). Bring everything you will need! The setting is very quiet, very private, and quite beautiful. Internet is limited. No TV. Heaven!

We (myself, my wife and in-laws) stayed two nights with Jan and his family at the end of an 8 day road trip through Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. This is one of our favorite airbnb experiences. This is the sort of place that we look for when we plan a trip. It's rural and beautiful. Horses, goats, dogs, amazing views, wood burning furnaces, spacious rooms. It's the perfect place to relax. The house is very large, clean and comfortable. "Rural" doesn't mean there are any compromises. There's WIFI, a fully equipped kitchen, etc. It's one of the few places we've rented that has a dishwasher. Very highly recommended. We had long conversations with Jan and learned a lot about the area. He's extremely friendly and helpful. He even went out of his way to pick up groceries for us (locally brewed beer and fresh eggs from a neighbor).

Jan and Veronika are extremely nice and helpful hosts. Each day we woke up to their friendly, smiling faces - and their super happy farm dogs! They were always willing to give us suggestions for day trips, directions, information about their animals and anything else we wanted to chat about. We felt comfortable calling them for help when we got lost on our way to their property. Even though it was a little late in the evening, Jan was available and very friendly. The property is exactly as described and the pictures are very accurate. The house has everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The best part was Jan and Veronika's pets, especially the dogs! If you are an animal person and enjoy nature, this is definitely a great choice for a quiet and relaxing holiday. We are very happy to recommend this property and these awesome hosts!

If you're looking for a nice and roomy farmhouse surrounded by nature and an occasional farmer half a mile away, with a front porch where you can sit and hear each and every bird in the forest, this place is for you. It's as remote as you can get in central Europe, while actually being only 10 minutes away from a town with your choice of supermarkets or any other amenity. Jan is a friendly and helpful host (we only met Veronica briefly but she seemed equally nice). A perfect place to write a book, but if you've only a few days to detach yourself fully from the rat-race, it will be just what you need.

Hi! We are Veronika and Jan and we live here on our smallholding with our 5 year old son Timo and our animals. Veronika is mostly into horses and knows everything about natural horsemanship, but from the ethological point of view. She loves to work with her horses and train them using positive reinforcement. I work as software designer and like to work with wood. (I made the beds in our house for rent). Our shared passion is permaculture. Work together with nature is our keyword in horse management and gardening.

Our smallholding has three houses and several barns. In one house we live and the two other house we use for seminars and rent to people who like to be outside like we do. There is one more small traditional farm house, but it is still in orignal state.

Our place is very suitable for naturelovers who are used to comfort. A small warning for families with children: usually the parents have a hard time to get their children to say goodbye after they fell in love with our animals.
