Moira and Phil were very welcoming. Everything we needed or imagined we might need were all at our fingertips. The home was beautiful and the extra comforts. like wood burning stove, gourmet kitchen and daily visits by the local deer made our visit memorable.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Modern Country Home. It was a beautiful, spacious home, with lots of privacy. We stayed for several weeks, and the 2 bedroom house was fantastic for weekend visitors. The property backs onto a forest with hiking trails. Moira and Phil were great hosts - friendly, available, and accommodating. We would definitely return. Gabriola is a gorgeous place to visit!
Thank you very much for the stay. Much enjoyed the privacy of the home. The setting was perfect for the 2 couples and the 2 dogs. What luck the art show was on during the weekend, great way of showing off the island. The landscape of the little outbuildings and the garden was lovely to walk around , the inside was beautifully decorated. We had a great comfortable relaxing time. Thank you.
This was a perfect vacation. The property is huge, plus it abuts hundreds of acres of wild parkland. We hiked every day, then dined on the deck, listening to a raven or woodpecker, then lounged and read in the luxurious, comfortable, spotless home. Beautiful decor!
This house and the island was an absolute blessing! A big thank you to Moira and Phil for helping to make our stay perfect and for the advice on which places to visit! We had the best holiday ever! The house is lovely and has a fantastically equipped kitchen with all the amenities you could need including massive washing machine and dryer in the separate laundry room. The deck was beautiful to sit out on and enjoy the absolute peace and tranquility of the breathtaking forest that surrounds the house! The longest trail for both walking and mountain biking was a stone's throw from back of the house (so secluded, it is easily missed). We didn't see another soul, you really do get it all to yourself! We were a party of two adults and 13 year old son. We hired mountain bikes from the village shop for the two weeks we stayed on the island. The shop owners were very accommodating and we got a great deal for the two week bike hire! The mountain bikes and trails are a great way to get around to see this unspoilt beautiful island and admire the scenery and wildlife (deers, fawns, wild turkeys etc). The beaches were so quiet and with over 30 points to choose from, you really had your pick! We visited the amazing historical 'petroglyphs' and visited the lovely market on Saturday. There is a chic and comfortable coffee house Mad Ronas, as well as other cafe's to visit. The Woodfire Pizza and Grille is a must eat at place! I was expecting a nice enough pizza place, but it's actually a very decent restaurant with an amazing selection of mouthwatering food. I'm only sorry we left it until the last night to visit! We filled the days with mountain biking, kayaking and swimming. We hired kayaks twice from Jim's Kayak Shack. We toured with Jim first and then we hired again and went off on our own :-). We travelled from England, UK. The ferry crossings are very easy. We flew to Vancouver (YVR) and drove to Tswassen ferry terminal, crossed to Duke Point (Nanaimo) and then second very short 20 min ferry from Nanaimo Duke Point to Gabriola. I'd recommend the BC Ferries Experience card. You'll save lots and if like us you want to go to Victoria for the day, you'll save around 40% off the cost. At Victoria we went on a whale watching tour, where we saw orca whales, seals and minky whales! Gabriola was just a perfect spot to get away from it all, yet is perfectly accessible to any off-island touring. Only downside is having only the two weeks and it was painful having to leave! What an amazing house and island!!
We had a lovely stay at this beautiful property. The house was comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The surroundings were so peaceful and private.
As hosts Moira and Phil were great, they provided us with the privacy we appreciated, but when needed they were readily available to answer any questions. We would love to return!
We enjoyed a 5 day stay here in August and would recommend the "Modern Country Home" to others visiting Gabriola. The house was a perfect base to visit family and explore the island, and is located in a quiet, convenient spot surrounded by forest, and only a 5 minute drive or short bike ride to the village. The home is modest and a good value for the cost. Also very clean and comfortable for our family of 4. Sitting out in the deck in the evening with friends was definitely a highlight. Also appreciated the renovated kitchen that was fully stocked with all necessary utensils.
The reservation process was easy and Moira and Phil kept in touch with us prior to our visit to make sure we had what we needed at the house and knew what to expect.
