Our cozy two bedroom traditional courtyard is perfectly situated for visitors to Beijing. Located on the northeast edge of the Forbidden City, steps from Beijing's most famous sites, our place is the perfect place for families, groups and couples.
Our cozy traditional Chinese courtyard home sits only about 100 meters from the northeast side of the Forbidden City - the former Imperial Palace at the center of Beijing.
We've just finished renovating the courtyard house for you! The house has two bedrooms, one shared bathroom between the bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen with dining space and a beautiful central courtyard with space for outdoor dining, reading and relaxing.
My name is John and my wife's name is Coffee. I'm from Ann Arbor, Michigan in the US. I've lived and worked in China for more than eight years. Coffee is from Changchun in northern China. From what we can tell ours is one of if not the only Beijing courtyard homes on Airbnb where you can have the entire place, courtyard and all just to yourself at this price.
We've kept the renovation and furniture, simple, clean and comfortable.
The location of this home is perfect for travelers. You are only steps from the north gate of the Forbidden City and what Hongli and I believe is the most beautiful and romantic spot in Beijing: Jingshan Park, an 15th century imperial-built hill from which you can see the most spectacular view of Beijing available. We are also only a short walking distance from Houhai, Nanlou Guxiang, Beihai Park, Wangfujing Shopping Street, the National Art Museum, Tiananmen Square, the National Museum, the Great Hall of the People, Qianmen, theatres, concert halls and more.
Hongli and I are just getting started at this and are eager to do everything we can to ensure you have the perfect stay. We have a kitchen stocked with all the fundamentals which you are free to use, and we are right next to a small grocery store. We are also available for travel advice and support 24/7.
In addition to a spotless cleaning before your arrival, we will clean the apartment once per week for you if you are making a longer stay. If you want more frequently cleaning we can also arrange that.
We are closest to the Nanluo Guxiang Subway Station on Line 6 and the Dongsi Subway Station on Line 5. Both are about a 15 minute walk.
We can comfortably accommodate four people. We can also arrange additional mattresses and/or bedding if you want to squeeze in up to two more people. Just give us a heads up a couple days ahead of time.
This house is perfect for any couple, family or group of friends who want to experience a comfortable traditional Beijing life while exploring the incredible sites at the heart of China's capital.
We've added a pretty extensive Airbnb Guidebook to our listing with restaurants, museums, shopping and more. Check it out!
You will have access to an American style coffee maker, a washing machine, a stove range with two burners, a TV with a DVD player, wireless internet, a modest book collection, a great courtyard with a beautiful pomegranate tree from our friend, a kitchen with plates, glasses, bowls, pots, pans, cooking utensils, etc.,
Interaction with Guests
We will often greet our guests ourselves as long as we have time. We live about 2 km away and have a car so we can make it to the house quickly if anything comes up.
No big rules. Just try to keep the place in good shape.
Also, please remember to turn off AC units if you are leaving the house for the day. They eat up a lot of electricity.
If you are staying for more than one week then we will have a cleaning person come once per week. Just let us know which day and time will be most convenient for you.
Lastly, try to let us know your arrival and departure flight information so we can greet you on time and arrange for cleaning after your departure.
John and Coffee's Hutong home was great. It gave us a chance to see Beijing from a local's perspective. The neighborhood restaurants were a fun way to eat cheaply. This wouldn't have been possible if we'd stayed in a high rise hotel. We recommend this wholeheartedly for a fun Beijing experience.
We had a great visit to Beijing thanks to the convenient location of John/Coffee's hutong. Coffee was waiting for us when we reached the unit and helped us settle down and were very helpful with tips and suggestions. Definitely an interesting experience staying in a hutong so close to the Forbidden City.
This location is very central to Beijing and has a wonderful "old Beijing" feel to it. Our hosts were great and very attentive. There is plenty I space and around the corner are local restaurants and Forbidden City within walking distance. The only downside was registering with the local police. Expect a one hour duration to get this done with your host.
I stayed in John and Coffee's Beijing Hutong with my wife and two kids (age 7 and 9). It was a wonderful introduction to our 10 days travel in China. A great location, very close to the Forbidden City (walking distance) and a 5 minute cab ride to the Drum Tower/Bell Tower district. A 10 minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to the main pedestrian shopping street with local restaurants, a western supermarket and night markets.
We were there in early April and the weather was still cold but the Hutong's heating and bedding meant that we were comfortable at night. It was also nice to have the lounge room as a place to hang out as a family.
There is a requirement to register at the local Police Station (hotels will do this for you at check in) but this will take 20 minutes out of your day and Coffee made the process easy by coming along to the station. Don't be put off by this requirement.
I would recommend this Hutong to anyone looking for a more authentic stay in Beijing.

I am John, I'm a 34 year-old American living and working in China. I'm a big fan of Beijing, its hutongs, its food, its quirks, its history and its exciting dynamism. One of his favorite past times is showing visitors to Beijing all the best sites, restaurants and activities.
My wife Coffee is from Changchun in northern China, and has lived in Beijing for 11 years working for international companies and starting her own small business doing corporate events and video. She is very dedicated to ensuring you have a great stay with us.
