Spacious 2 bedroom cottage in Scottish Borders. Sun trap patio garden with furniture. Families, groups & dogs welcome. Ideal base for exploring Scottish / English borders. Short stays and late bookings happily arranged.
Fantastic rural setting with stunning countryside in all directions. Riverside location great for relaxing by the water but far enough away to stop young children from exploring alone. Spacious accomodation is more than comfortable for 4 adults (plus an extra fold out bed available if required for 5) and the large dining kitchen is perfect for conversation over home cooked meals. Asda and Sainsbury will deliver groceries to the cottage via online orders. Town is only a 10 minute drive away and there are plenty of restaurants and take aways if you'd rather not cook. The area is steeped in tradition and history with centuries old Border Reivers and Common Ridings, abbeys, a world famous textile heritage and more recently, the best off road mountain biking you can find anywhere. There are many walks, cycle routes and nature reseves on the doorstep and at night we have a blanket of starry skies which spans uninterrupted for miles. If you like star gazing, we have amazing vast dark skies here at Colterscleuch. We are also close to Kielder Observatory and only 2 hours from Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park.
The Cottage is your home while you're here and you have private access to the patio garden, shared access to the acre of garden between the house and cottage, shared access to the river. There is off road private parking for 2 or more vehicles in the carport and hard standing to the rear for motorbikes. There is also a private locked shed for cycles, fishing gear and motorbikes etc. Facilities for washing cycles and bikes are outside the cottage. If you need any specialist clothing dried overnight, let us know and we can do this for you at the house. We can keep fish in the freezer at the house.
Interaction with Guests
You can interact as little or as much as you like. We live within the same 2 acres of land and are available 24hrs via telephone. We will welcome you on arrival and are happy to help with anything during your stay but we will not knock on your door or pester you unless you request it. Our chickens produce fresh eggs every day and we will leave some for you to sample along with a few essentials on your arrival. They make a great breakfast treat! Just let us know if you'd like any more during your stay (eggs are not Lion Marked)
There is private parking for 2 or more vehicles at the Cottage. Driving will give you the most flexible access to the many Scottish and English border attractions / activities. You can drive to the outskirts of Edinburgh then use the park and ride bus facility to avoid having to navigate and find parking in the city.
The X95 bus has an hourly service from the cottage north into Hawick (10 minutes by bus) and then travels on to the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh. The same service runs hourly to Carlisle in the south. There is no bus stop, just hold your hand out and it will stop for you at the side of the road. Current timetable will be available in the Cottage.
There aren't too many house rules, just a few basics.
Well behaved and fully house trained dogs / pets by prior arrangement only. We expect any poop within the grounds to be bagged and binned as it occurs. Any pets who may chase small animals or birds must be kept on a lead when within the grounds.
No smoking in the cottage.
No additional friends / guests staying without prior arrangement.
If there are any accidents or breakages, please tell us straight away as we can help clean up and sort it out for you. If you require a change of bed linen or towels during your stay, please let us know. There may be an additional charge for this.
Spending three days at this Scottish haven was bliss. Quiet, secure off road parking, easy to get to from everywhere. The location was a perfect distance to Hawick, even got a reasonable cab one evening so we could all have a tipple. The cottage itself is stunning. All perfectly clean and roomy too. Being 4 of us it was nice we didn't have to make up a sofa bed every day, 2 gorgeous large double bedrooms. and a great family kitchen to boast. Debbie was amazing too, even delivered fresh farm eggs and gluten free muffins for my sister in law. Perfect was to start the new year. We'll be back
Deborah was extremely friendly when welcoming us to the cottage. She gave us a good explanation of where everything was located but assured us she could be contacted at any time if there were any problems of which there were none.
The owner has really worked hard to ensure everything that could possibly be needed is provided for.
On our trip we had a full list of activities to keep us busy but the accommodation was a perfect place to come 'home' to after busy days and centrally located for the borders area which is lovely.
I would not hesitate to return here if I'm in the area again!
The best rental cottage ever! The holiday cottage was lovely.the decor top notch. It felt like home. Debbie and Peter have thought of everything one would need for a wonderful vacation! Extremely clean! Lots of space. Best of all they are two very kind caring warm folk!! I would definitely come again and tell others about this beautifulu
Prima ontvangst met duidelijke uitleg over cottage, verwarming en apparaten. Fijn dat er melk, boter, thee en koffie, verse eieren en zelfgebakken muffins aanwezig waren.
we spent 3 delightful days at Deborah's cottage. There were 5 of us : 2 couples and a 12 year old child. Every room is furnished with an exquisite taste. Beds are wonderfully comfortable which is a prerequisite for the following day as we walked a lot. The bathroom has both a bath and a (very powerful) shower. The kitchen has much more than what is necessary to cook. Eveything is in mint condition. Debborah was kind enough to provide all the household products we neeeded. We appreciated all the maps, leaflets dealing with the area which avoided us to go to tourist information centers. Last, but not least we received an outstanding welcome in many manners. Deborah's kindness (unless it is her charming smile) makes her a perfect ambassadress to extend the auld alliance. we appreciated every little bits of attention. This resulted in those bags of Harribo sweets left on our towels plus the extra one hidden under our son's pillow. We definitively highly recommend Debborah's cottage. Thank you so much.Karine from Paris, France
The cottage is warm, spacious and immaculately decorated close to picturesque Hawick. Handy to both Edinburgh and Carlisle and the Lakes district. We were greeted with fresh farm eggs, home baked blueberry muffins on arrival and a beautiful stone cottage set amongst rolling hills- who could ask for a more relaxing home away from home?! Very highly recommended.
Thank you Deborah and Peter - we had a fantastic time in your wonderful cottage. What great people you are - South Africans appreciate generosity and friendliness very much and this is exactly what you gave us. We will be back! Highly recommended. Five star all the way.

I'm full of contradictions. I love great clean, sharp design but I look like an old hippy. I love to stay at home knitting, baking cakes and chatting with my hens but can't live without the thrill of the open road and speed of my motorbike.
I used to be a happy camper but these days when I travel, I like good food, a good bed and a great shower.
I'm blessed to live in such a beautiful setting and love to share it with others. There's plenty to go round!
