The Fairy Cottage - Port Douglas, Queensland where the extraordinry Great Barrier Reef meets the World's oldest Rainforest.
A friendly fairy welcome awaits you at the Fairy Cottage where you are greeted at the driveway by a beautiful fairy letterbox and where fairies and unicorns abound.
A clean and neat double room with shared bathroom facilities with your fairy lady hostess. A continental breakfast is provided for you if you are feeling a little peckish. The Fairy Cottage has a lovely airy and light living and dining area.
There is also a smaller single room with two single beds..
If you feel the need to cool off there is a salt water swimming pool to swim, splash and play in. The pool is beside the BBQ and covered outdoor dining area.
To complete your stay with the Fairy Lady is my "Scooby Doo" look alike dog, a genial goofy Ridgeback by the name of "Chicken".
Five minute walk to the bus stop. Buses run in and out of town approximately every twenty minutes. There is a supermarket, chemist and bottle shop within walking distance of approximately 250 metres.
Your fairy lady hostess can assist you in selecting tours and fun things to do during your stay... from the reef to the rainforest. My partner John, who lives down the road, is a marine biologist, and can offer expert advice on the best tours available to the Great Barrier Reef, suited for your needs and sense of adventure.
So for a happy time with lots of fun come and stay at the Fairy Cottage.
Guests have access to the entire property.
I absolutely adore meeting new people and having a chat with them. Its so nice to meet people from all over the world.
Its a lovely friendly neighbourhood. Stopping for a chat with neighbours. Its a lovely area with lots of trees and Opal Street is a fairly quiet street.
Yes there is. There is a bus stop at The Wildlife Habitat which is a five minute walk away. From there you can catch a bus into town which is about 5kms.
I had a very nice stay with Heather (and Chicken, her lovable dog). The house was very easy to get to, a short drive into town, and I parked in the driveway. Plus, tour operators had no problem picking me up from Opal St. Apart from the convenience of the house, Heather is such a lovely person. I only have great things to say and absolutely no reservations to share!
I had a lovely time at the fairy cottage... Both Heather and her boyfriend John were amazing hosts, helping me out in several ways, always inviting me to have dinner with them, and always in for a chat. Heather was often in so you will never feel alone if you travel solo :) The dog chicken was also great to play with... The breakfast was very generous, with all kinds of cereal, bread and butter and jam and milk and juice... hmmm! Lovely garden with nice pool. Not the cleanest house I ever visited, but I do not mind that so all in all it was a lovely stay.
Heather was a fantastic host. From the start she welcomed us into her house and invited us to make ourselves at home. She even made dinner for us and introduced us to her partner on one night.
It really is a little tropical paradise - a pool in the backyard and lots of windows to let the breeze through. The room was clean and comfortable, and the air con certainly helped when it came to sleeping. Overall, highly recommended!
Heather is super sweet, and certainly eccentric. Great breakfast setup, wonderful home cooked dinner, and chicken the dog is a sweetheart.
Heather, The Fairy Lady deserves the ABCD award for going above and beyond the call of duty!! She was a fabulous host. She showed my a fabulous vista point and took my to the best coffee shop in town. Chicken is well behaved and adorable! Definitely worth the price she charges. The best was nice & firm with lots of cushy pillows, just the way I like it. I was really sad when it was time to leave, I really enjoyed my time at the fairy cottage, but I will return!!!!
IMy husband and I enjoyed very much being in the Fairy Cottage with its always open doors and also being with Heather, who welcomed us with open arms. We felt immediately at home.
We were overwhelmed by her kindness and hospitality and having diner with her and John was a pleasure. We were grateful for the invitation.
As friendly as Heather is her Dog Chicken, which we liked as well and we would always again stay at this place.

A generous welcoming and obliging hostess, Heather shared her evening with me and made sure I was comfortable and had all the information I needed to enjoy my stay in pt Douglas. I drove and she gave very clear instructions how to find her charming fairyland that she shares with Chicken. Thanks Heather.
I had a lovely stay with Heather and Chicken in Port Douglas! So welcoming, I felt very comfortable there.
The breakfast/ food Heather had supplied and had open for me to help myself to, was an unexpected pleasure. I most enjoyed eating my cereal while swinging in a hanging cane chair looking over the pool. I would definitely stay there again!
Heather was a great and very friendly host. She gives us a warm welcome and we enjoyed the meal with her. Her dog “Chicken” is very friendly too. In the house you can see a lot of elves and unicorns. Our room was nice with a big empty closet and the bed was very comfortable. If you are not looking for an especially clean house, then this is a very good place to stay.
We had a great night in Port Douglas with Heather. She has a very nice home and was very kind and accommodating.
