The description is deceiving so here are some things you should know about this place, pros and cons: 1. Roosters all over the vicinity so expect to hear them starting from 3am and onwards. Honestly though you get used to them after the 3rd day but I don't think many people stay that long. Earplugs are an absolute must. 2. Smells like farm animal poo because the neighbors have a pig and cow. Nothing too strong but you can definitely smell it from time to time in your room. 3. I don't think the owner of this place, Ayu, knows the actual address so don't bother asking him. I've asked him multiple times and he was never able to give me the exact information. Ask the groundskeeper and the villa manager for any information. They are extremely helpful. 4. This place is a really long walk to Ubud center, prob between 45-60min on foot depending on your speed. Car/motorbike take about 7-10min. 5. It's very hard for drivers to find this place so make sure you have the exact directions to give them. If you tell them "my villa is in payogan village, on rsi markandya street next to payogan dalem alit temple" they will know (just double check with the manager/groundskeeper though). This info is especially important if you have booked any tours and the driver is scheduled to pick you up. 6. The manager is a disabled man. Please don't let that deter you though. He is very knowledgeable about the area and provides a ton of useful info. You can also book tours through him. He also provides rides into Ubud center for 20,000 rupiah each way (a little less than $2). There is also a driver that will take you to Ubud center for 40,000 rupiah each way (a little less than $4). However, there were times when I was extremely frustrated while communicating with the manager because of his disability. It makes me feel like a horrible person to feel this way so what I want to tell everyone is just be patient with him. There are times when some things are better dealt with by yourself (like giving directions to lost drivers on their way to pick you up, writing down numbers, etc. He tends to get nervous in those situations and cannot function correctly) but other than that, he is a wonderful person. Like I said, extremely helpful and knowledgeable and a valuable resource for information on Ubud. 7. If animal noise doesn't bother you nor the distance, then this villa really is perfect. The grounds itself is very nice and very well maintained. The rooms are large and comfortable and clean. My room had a daybed and a veranda outside with a rocking chair, another daybed and a hammock. It was AMAZING to just sit there with the beautiful view, read a book, sip some tea, and just enjoy the beauty of Ubud. The nights are cool so an a/c really is...
We stayed here for only one night. The room is laid back and not so close to the center of Ubud if you don't have an own transport. The rooms are overall nice and clean. The have a beautiful garden and a really really friendly housekeeper. However since it's next to a farmhouse there is a cock next door that starts crowing in the earliest morning with ear shuttering noise and the smell of cows is also not entirely pleasant. Oropax is necessary. Unfortunately we also had dead ants in our honey for breakfast.
We had a mixed experience at Ayus place. The location and the rooms are nice. However, we had a frustrating time communicating with the hosts. First, our room smelled of mildew and had a stable filled with cow manure (!!) which we smelled in our room. When we complained about this to Ayu, they said it was beyond their control since the cows belonged to a neighbor. Ayu also left a property manager in charge who, while we found him nice and well intentioned, had clear communication and comprehension issues and seemingly a learning disability. We think it is good to employ him; however, it was not appropriate to leave him alone in charge of the property. For a comparable price we could have rented a hotel with more amenities. When we mentioned our difficulties with the property manager to Ayu, they said that no one had complained about him beforehand. Perhaps had the place been cheaper we would have understood the low quality service, but since it was a comparable price to hotels, it was frustrating. Also, as Ayu tells guests, the inn is very hard for taxis to find and guests need to be ready to walk in the dark from the main road back to the inn at night.
A beautiful stay with nature surrounding us. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. They arranged a motorbike so we could check out Ubud (10 min drive).
With earplugs I had no problem sleeping. But if you have troubles sleeping with noice like my girlfriend, it might be difficult.
Nice and lovely place. Ayu was reactive and helfull. We had a lot of attention. Perfect for a nice stay. Consider hiring a scooter to the center ( very cheap in Ubud ) as it s not in the hyper center and this is why we have chosen this place
It was a good week's stay at the villa. Breakfast was really good. Dewa and Ketut are really helpful in making sure that stay is pleasant. Place was clean. Surprisingly, no mosquitoes. :) The beds are comfy and the surroundings are very calm. Good place to go to if you need to meditate. The con of this place were the roosters next door. They can be quite loud. So bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Other than that, it was a really good stay. Very much a hidden gem in Ubud. :)
The place is nice and beautiful. A little far from the Ubud center, but really enjoyed the natural surrounded. only one problem was not hot water during night.
