A simple yurt, paradise-comfortable, + reasonably priced. Furnished for 1-3 people in a remote private area of Nanawale Estates. Pahoa is only 5 miles away, voted by BudgetTravel as one of the "coolest small American towns" 2014.
Welcome to my single-private rain forest home. Escape to simple living paradise with blooms + edible plants. Yurt lodging is beyond luxury camping with modern conveniences.
The interior layout is customized for your reservation at 4 people max. Bedding is one queen-size air mattress, one twin-size air mattress + a single futon (chair converts to bed).
Outdoor dining is under "solar shack" cover + by the fish pool with tropical plants.
Typical seasonal food blessings are bananas, avocado, passion fruit, chives, rosemary, varied herbs + teas, Okinawan spinach + cherry/grape tomatoes. The mango tree is growing!
This property is semi off-grid with solar plumbing. If you are contemplating a yurt purchase, this is the perfect test with complimentary consultation to construct on Hawaii Island.
Use of towels, toiletries, bedding, kitchen accessories + basic condiments (website hidden)-monitor for movies supplied, or rent DVDs nearby. There is satellite Internet + good cell phone connectivity. Please respect gigabyte limits or purchase additional memory.
No air conditioning; the ceiling fan helps you enjoy the clean Pacific air. Although the windows and doors are screened, wandering geckos may appear during cooler months. They like to show off their enjoyable sport of eating mosquitoes + flies. Most like it when you talk to them :)
Simple + sustainable lifestyle here, composting is a natural in the tropics + most glassware consists of reused jars.
Typically your stay requires a 3-day minimum advance reservation. (Because this is my home, immediate reservations are not available + note clean days are necessary between bookings).
Feel free to inquire about service options + fees. The kitchen may be stocked for your arrival, for example. Other considerations by reservation are guided tours, catering, + concierge services.
Do be forewarned of wildlife sounds from nature! Coqui frogs + crickets sing to you during twilight while roosters crow (sometimes at odd hours). Most visitors love these jungle-type sounds while others prefer to use complimentary ear plugs.
Neighbors have friendly dogs + feral cats are common. Nature's rainforest does include mosquitoes, which are prominent late afternoons.
Check out "Uncle Robert's" on Saturday mornings for the "Outer Space" farmers' market + Wednesday evenings with entertainment. Famed Maku'u market is Sunday mornings. All Hawaii markets offer produce, fantastic prepared foods (that you can eat there or carry out), gifts, aromatherapy, holistic services + musicians. More to share when you reserve!
Upon your reservation + arrival itinerary, a welcome tour is scheduled with driving instructions; plus a link for details about more things to see + do. Community swimming pool access requires advance (but FREE) reservation; just ask!
Interaction with Guests
Best communication methods are customized for each guest before or upon arrival. There is a school bus on the property that owner Delia typically sleeps in during your stay. You may find her gardening + maintaining the property during daylight hours. The solar panel is turned on/off about once a week from inside the yurt whereas guests are notified before entry.
The drive from yurt to Pahoa Town is only 5 minutes. (Volcano is less than 40 minutes).
Exciting Kilauea's lava flow came close to Pahoa Town late 2014, but stalled as of 2015 late February. Some businesses closed, yet new markets emerged. History-in-the-making! Once the flow does cross the highway, alternative road routes will be activated. You may inquire for updates before confirming a reservation.
Highly recommend that you rent a vehicle. The bus service is not dependably prompt. Hitchhiking is acceptable throughout the island, however. Sometimes you can find a local deal on Craig's to rent a vehicle :)
Other Things to Note
The fish in the elevated lily pool are fed early evenings. Just ask if you'd like to take on that task!
* Please remove footwear before entering yurt.
* No cigarette/tobacco smoking inside yurt.
* Compost on site; keep trash bin clean in tropics.
* Recycling encouraged.
* Beyond 3-night stay, renter is responsible for trash/recycle hauling; unless service with fee is requested. The check in/out process is submitted to renter after booking.
* Pet negotiable w/ deposit after written agreement. (No fencing).
My partner and I had a wonderful stay in Delia's yurt. The location is ideal for exploring the area as well as being convenient to Pahoa. The space is incredibly comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Delia made us feel very welcome and had a lot of insights to share about the neighborhood and the island.
We had a very nice stay in Delia's yurt. It was fully equipped, cozy and comfortable. Delia was available and willing to help us with everything we needed.
We spent a week in Delia's yurt and loved it. Avid outdoor enthusiasts / tent campers, the construction of the yurt, complete w. nice bathroom area and cooking facilities, felt luxurious. The hardwood floor was perfect for yoga. Delia provided us with a comprehensive tour the morning after our arrival, and we texted as needed after that. The nightly coqui concerts didn't bother us, but as other guests have noted, the neighbor's roosters were a nuisance. The guy across the road was also fond of blasting his music occasionally... A light sleeper, I already use earplugs, and the ones Delia left were put to good use by my son. She also left a guest pass for the subdivision pool, but once we discovered the 50m Pahoa community pool (free and open at 9am daily), we swam there. I look forward to returning, and perhaps even transitioning to yurt living someday.
The host was super, the neighborhood was nice - all and all it was just what we expected and more.... Thanks Airbnb
We arrived to this lovely yurt at dark, and the space was lit up and welcoming. Delia, our host, left us a basket and a couple of key instructions for the space. She came by and gave us a nice tour the next morning, and she provided my husband and I with a lot of info about yurt living. The only downside- if you are a person who is not a heavy sleeper - was the flock (is that the right word?) of roosters and chickens down the way, who began crowing at 3 am and/or anytime there was a disturbance in the force. I would recommend bringing ear plugs, and you can have a good time.
Delia is a really sweet woman and obviously cares a lot about her yurt and the surrounding gardens.
The yurt is really nice and has everything you need. It gets a bit cold at night but there are lots of blankets.
The location is pretty far out and is in the middle of the country, but we didn't have trouble driving on the roads.
The sounds of the coqui frogs are actually beautiful, but the roosters are terribly annoying and go all night - definitely take Delia up on her offer for earplugs.
We now know what a yurt is and would love to have our own ! Although maybe a bit too rustic for some people, we enjoyed the privacy of staying in this cozy giant 'tent' which is hidden amidst lush tropical vegetation, is simply but tastefully decorated and has all the amenities we asked for. It has a Fully equipped kitchen and a hot water shower. The air mattress was perfectly fine and we didn't mind the frog noises at night - they add to the experience. The only drawback is that tap water is not potable, but Delia will provide you with enough drinking water. We appreciated the welcome basket with fresh fruit, coffee and cookies. we highly recommend to stay in this place !
I am a passionate gardener where my yurt home was erected on a tiny piece of Pahoa rain forest paradise early 2009. I "walk the green talk" by supporting environmentalism at home, in the community, and beyond. My yurt home is designed for simple, uncluttered sustainable living and is nearly off grid. Yurt dwellers tend to be outdoor enthusiasts and this is the perfect setting for spiritual work as well. Yurt living and construction consultation available; property sale negotiable.
