Downtown Student Studio

Apartment - Shared room · N Butler St, Madison, WI 53703, United States

☆ Summary:
I am a graduate student at UW Madison, living in a studio just a block from the capital. If you're in town for an interview, or just staying for a short while, I might have a place for you!

The Space

☆ The space
This studio is just a block away from the capital building, and 3 blocks from state street. It's on a calm street, in a quiet building.

It's a 450 sq ft studio apartment. The kitchen is separated from the living room by an island, and the living room is separated from the 'bedroom' by a room divider. It's not REALLY a bedroom, because it's technically a studio apartment, but the divider provides privacy.

The living room has a 9 foot, extremely soft couch. The 'bedroom' has a queen sized bed. You are welcome to whichever you prefer- clean, crisp, wonderfully smelling sheets will be provided either way.

Guest Access

☆ Guest access & amenities:
The gym next door gives out free 7 day trial passes. I can send you the link to their website upon request, but I'm confident in saying it's awesome. Unlimited yoga, fitness classes, elliptical with built in TVs, and even a grizzly weight lifting space. I personally haven't set foot onto the weight lifting floor since the tour, but I can give some advise on the yoga- including the name of the class with the cutest instructor to ever step onto a mat!

Kitchen is available for use, if you want it. I can whip up some basic breakfast in the morning- cereal, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, but I'm no chef.

Indoor entertainment wise: TV, PS3 & internet are available.

Interaction with Guests

☆ This add is mostly aimed at students who are in Madison for an interview, and need a place to stay overnight, although others are welcome. For those of you interviewing, I was in your shoes, and might have some useful experience to share. I can even take you to your interview location, or at the very least, give you good directions on how to get there- walk, bus, cab or car!

☆ My interaction with the guests:
I can be a hostness, telling you everything I know about Madison. But if you need to get your zen on, I will simply let you into my apartment, say hello, and enter a book induced tranced in a corner of my apartment, or leave for the library and come back late in the evening.

☆ On the topic of 'Family & Kid Friendly':
Children are welcome! But I do not have a crib, a booster seat, a stroller you can borrow, or any toys besides a plush dog. Also, keep in mind the size of the apartment- if you, your loved one and your child can fit onto a queen sized bed, then you're all welcome to stay.

The Neighborhood

☆ Neighborhood overview:
Walking distance to practically everything! Some of my favorite places that are within walking distance:
☞ Dobra Tea House for a quiet night out on the town, 15 min walk
☞ Barriques Coffee House to study at a coffee shop, 10 min walk
☞ Old Fashioned Restaurant for some delicious american cuisine, 5 min walk
☞ Elevation Spa to relax before the big day, 5 min walk
☞ UW Madison Memorial Union for the library and terrace, 20 minute walk or a short bus ride.
☞ Walgreens, 10 min walk or there's a couple other convenience stores even closer than that.

Getting around

☆ Getting around:
☞ Public transit:
There are 3 separate bus stops within a 5 minute walk. Since the apartment is right by the capital, nearly every bus line passes by.

☞ Parking:

There are a couple of paid garages, one of them across the street, and a cheaper one a few blocks away. I looked up the parking prices for the garage across the street:
Hourly Rate: $1.00 Per Hour
Nights & Weekends $5 Max (See rate definition)
The lot is operated by City of Madison Parking Utility, you can look them up on (website hidden).

STREET PARKING:
Weekdays 8am-6pm: free, 2 hour limit
Weeknights after 6pm: free, unlimited
Weekend: free, unlimited.

Meaning you can leave your car there 6PM-10AM & weekends.
Right next to my apartment if you can find a space.
Watch out for street cleaning!

PARKING LOTS: Required permit 7AM - 4:30PM. Un-inforced, weekdays after 7:30PM & all day weekends.
Meaning you can leave your car here 4:30PM-7AM & weekends.
University of Wisconsin opens up some of their parking lots to the public after 4:30PM. Here is a map with the location of all the UW parking structures, (website hidden). You should look for the green ones, they are free after 4:30PM. Yellow and blue parking lots require permits at all times, so you shouldn't park there. Here are the direct address to the green lots that areclosest to my apartment, and the respective distance from my house:
115 N Frances Street (1.0 mile)
930 Clymer Place (1.3 mile)
210 N. Mills Street (1.4 mile) *
335 N. Charter Street (1.4 miles) *
255 N. Charter Street (1.4 miles) *
30 N. Mills Street (1.6 miles) *
112 N. Charter Street (1.6 miles) *
* symbolizes 5 lots that are very close to each other, so if one is full, try the other.

Can send links to garages upon request.

  • This was my first airbnb booking ever! Albina was easy to communicate with and provided a comfortable and clean space for the night. All of the positive reviews were very true about her hospitality. Highly recommend staying the night in her cozy and extremely convenient location if you're ever visiting Madison! Will for sure be in touch the next time I need to travel up to the area.

  • Although I never arrived in Albina's studio due to the delay and subsequent cancellation of my flight to Madison (had to fly to and stay in Chicago instead), Albina has been a very helpful and flexible host. Not only did she say it would be no problem to check in even late in the evening, she although refunded the rate for the stay. Thank you very much!

  • The apartment was super clean and comfortable. From the bed you can see the capital lit up at night through the window. It's awesome. It's a great location as well.

  • Albina has a lovey space in Madison. We were able to walk around the beautiful city & enjoy some of the nightlife. Albina was a fantastic host and very responsive to my questions.

  • Perfect! Albina is a great hostess and very friendly. Her apartment is cozy and clean. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to leave!
Great location right near te capital building.
    Couldn't ask or anything better.
    Thanks Albina!

  • I must say that Albina's place is very well located with very easy access to public transport. It's very comfortable and I will seek her accommodations again-best value I've found on airbnb yet!

    March 2014
  • Albina is a wonderful person and a gracious host. Her studio share was perfect for me (it may not suit everyone since she is sharing her studio with you), and I truly enjoyed my stay. The location is in easy reach to everything downtown.

    February 2014
  • My partner and I stayed at Albina's place when she happened to be away on vacation. Even though we never met her in-person, she was consistently reliable with communication and making sure we had all of the information we needed for a successful stay.

Her apartment building is comfortable and secure, and as an ex-Madisonian I can easily say that is located in THE perfect location for exploring the city- everything in downtown is walkable in 15 minutes or less, easy access to transportation, and mere blocks away from restaurants and nightlife.

The apartment was just as described. It is a modern studio with enough room for the basics. Being a studio, the apartment does have limited space, but it would work well for someone who intends to spend most of their time out and and about in the city. Albina is very generous about what she allows guests to access (cooking supplies, coffee/tea, spices/oil, toiletry items, etc.) so if you are a minimalist traveler, this could be a big advantage.

All in all, I would definitely stay here again, and this has been a fantastic "first-experience" with AirBnb.

  • Albina was such a gracious host! She provided everything I needed for my overnight stay in Madison including suggestions about places where I could eat, have coffee or just take in the sights around town. Another thing that was very impressive was how well and quickly she communicated with me, I never felt like I was left in the dark before I left for my trip. She was very thorough about instructions with her place and how to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I had no problem giving her 5 stars.

    December 2013
  • I needed a place to rest my head, this place was perfect for that. Nothing fancy but a very comfy bed and welcoming hospitality.

About
Hey! I'm Albina. I am a medical student in Madison, WI. I rent a shared space in my studio apartment to short term guests. I've had UW interviewees, iron men, wedding guests, conference attendees, and many others stay with me! When school is out of session, I meet my family & friends at destinations all over the world! I grew up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and I have touristed to Moscow (many times over), Voronezh, St. Petersburg (few times), Rome, London, Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki, New York (twice!), Washington D.C. (also two times :) & Philadelphia.
