We stayed at Kay's condo for a very lovely comfortable, peaceful month. It was great! The property was clean and simple, very nice. The grounds were lush with mature landscape and a great variety of birds for entertainment. The tide pools were wonderful, and sunsets devine.
The house of Kay is wunderful! The location is really nice as it is close to some nice beaches as well as to shopping and restaurants. The house was very clean and everything we needed was provided.
Vi har under hele forløbet følt os meget velkomne. Kay har svaret på alle spørgsmål. Der stod et fint fad med frugt ved vores ankomst og Kay havde sørget for nogle tennisketchere.
Kay was very attentive in our communications, and was able to give us some excellent support... like when the fridge door hinge failed and we needed tools to repair it (honest minor flaw; not indicative of otherwise nice place)! We were here over the Hurricane Iselle period, which was pretty much a dud on the West side. Apart from a minor power outage, Kona survived it almost unscathed.
It's excellently located; not too far from Kona shopping, close to a major shopping center, but far enough to be quiet (see note below) and close to a nice snorkeling beach and even closer to a nice walking beach.
We were pleasantly woken most mornings by the soft calls of what my daughter and I call the "Boogoolooboogooloo" birds, and occasionally by the more distressing "BOOOINKBOOOINK" birds in the adjacent open field just next door. Ornithologists we ain't, but these local birds made for great early morning alarms.
Although the air-conditioning isn't easily utilized (upstairs window unit is broken; the mobile unit was a bit too much hassle to set up), it wasn't drastically missed as the many available fans did a good job keeping us hot Canadians cool enough. On the 2 really hot nights, my son slept downstairs on the couch, quite comfortably.
The decor is lovely. Really liked the art selection. And having the super-convenient day-coolers, beach and snorkeling gear available, which made for great days out, especially on a budget. Evening cool-downs in the freshwater pool were very well appreciated.
The geckos were a persistent source of amusement to my family, and playing peek-a-boo with the ones behind the picture frames was a popular sport.
It was our first trip to the Big Island, and if (when) we return, we'll definitely be checking to see if this unit will be available again.
Loved the place! Kay is a wonderful host and was very kind in answering all my questions and giving recommendations for a 1st time visitor to Hawaii. Mahalo, Kay!
The place was as described and better than I expected: it was spacious, clean, and comes with all the amenities...Very comfortable for 6 adults. There's plenty of closet/storage space for our belongings, and plenty of chairs/sofa in the living/dining area for all of us to hang out. Cookware and dishes were well organized, so it was easy for us to locate what we need.
The place is located in a quite neighborhood, and there's beach on the other end of the complexes...lovely place to enjoy the sunset or explore the tide-pools. We enjoyed snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach, which is only 15min away by walking (or a 5 min drive). There's also shopping center nearby (within 5 mins of driving) so it was very convenient for grocery shopping, etc.
We enjoyed staying here. Kay was always responsive to emails. The place has a nice layout and was clean with a great central location. One bedroom faces Alii Drive, so there is some traffic noise. We wondered if it was spacious enough for six people and were happy to find that it worked perfectly for us. The fans in the bedrooms provided enough airflow to sleep comfortably. The grounds were very pleasant. One of the most popular snorkeling spots on the island is a 15 minute walk north.
Kay was very easy to communicate with and helpful in setting up this booking. The unit is very clean and well maintained. The pictures are an accurate representation of the townhouse with 1 bedroom with queen bed on the main floor and 2 bedrooms one with queen and 1 with 2 twin beds upstairs. The sofa/futon in the main living room area can also be folded down to make a futon bed. The townhouse isn't fancy but has everything you need for a comfortable stay including extra beach towels, a pool on-site, and beach access. Just as an FYI there is wifi in the townhome complex main pavilion but not in the townhouse itself.
The property is a convenient 10 min drive to the downtown Kona-Alii Drive area. I'd definitely stay here again!
Married for 32 years, mother of two grown girls. We rotate our lives between our home in Phoenix AZ and my husband's career in Los Angeles where we keep our California residence on our boat in Marina del Rey. Kona has been our vacation home for the last 21 years and would love to share it with all who love and wish to love the magic of the Kona Coast.
