Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Our cottage is meant to be both contemporary and rustic. It is where we go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world and slow down. There is no TV or internet, even our phone is an old rotary one. You will see that we have a good radio, and games and books to read, and plenty of things to do outside. We hope you will take the time at our cottage to comfortably reconnect with yourself, and each other, while enjoying what Maine is renowned for, our quality of life.

The space
Located at 83 Ballyhac Rd in Owls Head, we are situated on 2 acres in a beautiful, quiet setting with tidal frontage on Ballyhac Cove. Our cottage is approximately 600 sq/ft and all the rooms you will be using are on the ground floor. Our place utilizes a heat pump that provides both heating and cooling, you can adjust the temperature up and down for heating and cooling. Please do not touch other settings or turn it off. The heat pump is most cost and environmentally effective when left running. The cottage also utilizes an on demand water heater for showers and laundry, please do not touch the settings. While there is a loft, we do not advise guests to go up as it can be difficult for people to come back down. Please do not allow children to go up there.

New Construction - the fully furnished cottage reflects modern Scandinavian design, full kitchen, full bath, washer and dryer, electric heating panels for chilly nights.

· Two bedrooms that sleeps 4 (Two twin beds, and one queen size bed)
· Outdoor picnicking area with gas grill
· Bedding and towels provided
· No TV, No Wi-Fi.
· Radio and CD player, books, magazines and games.

Birch Point State Park (Lucia Beach) with its beautiful sand beach and granite ledges is a 15 minute walk. The Owls Head Transportation Museum, Keag General Store in South Thomaston and Owls Head Lighthouse are within biking distance. Rockland, with its festivals, award winning restaurants like Primo, museums such as the Farnsworth and the Maine Center for Contemporary Art are only 5 miles away.

Guest access
You will have full access to the cottage and small storage shed. We ask that you not go up into the lofts as many people have a hard time coming down.

Other things to note
Be careful if backing out of the driveway on to Ballyhac road on sunny days. While it is a very quiet street, on sunny days people go to beach at the end of the road, so expect more vehicles at those times than evening through morning.

Also be aware the ground approaching front door is uneven, as is the lawn and grounds in general. The steps into the cottage do not have a rail.

Inside also be aware there is a step into and out of the shower and there is no grab bar. We do not recommend guests go up to the loft as many people experience it a challenge to come back down.

Born in the 60s
Where I went to school: Evergreen State College, Rutgers
I was born and raised in Owls Head know the land and waterways inside out, I also have roots in the local Finnish community of Owls Head, Rockland and South Thomaston. I attended college at the Evergreen State College in Washington state, and then graduate school at Rutgers University. In between, I lived and worked in Köln Germany and then Budapest Hungary. After working in Europe I returned to Maine, where I live in Lewiston with my wife Kati (a native of Budapest Hungary) and son, Kelen and our three Mini Schnauzers, Fred, Blossom and Harry who are all rescue dogs. I have a broad range of interests from gardening, fly fishing to thermo-electrics, fine arts, tiny homes and motorcycles. At our cottage you will see many things reflective of a coastal Maine and Scandinavian background, indeed our cottage is similar to my cousins cottage in Finland. We built our cottage in my home town of Owls Head to relax and enjoy the way life should be, we hope you enjoy your time at our cottage as much as we do.
