Comfortable room with a beautiful cast iron bed, shelving unit, nice size closet,, desk, chair and reading lamp.Three windows with a nice view of the yard.. The bathroom is very big and it has a nice hot tub. We clean the bathroom everyday, so you can look forward to a nice evening bath.
The house is a historic landmark from 1910 totally renovated by George.
We are thirty minutes away from Kennedy Airport and fifteen minutes from La Guardia.
The neighborhood is very interesting. You can hear any of 167 languages depending where you are eating or shopping. The subway is an eight minute walk, or three minutes by bus. You don't pay again; you ride both the bus and the train for one fare of $2.50. You can also walk a few blocks to the Long Island rail road that takes you to Pen Station in Manhattan in three stops.
If you are a tourist, I am sure that you want to spend some time in Manhattan; but when in the neighborhood, you will be wise to check the great variety of restaurants, bars, wine or coffee bars from the most exotic places.
This is the downtown heart of Historic Flushing where you will find plenty of interesting architecture, temples, churches, pagodas or synagogues.
You can expect a very clean house, a nice cozy room with plenty of air and light, and a nice, peaceful atmosphere.
George and Kat's house is beautiful, cozy, quiet, and spacious. Kat was very accommodating and considerate as a host. Room was warm and serene. Highly consider coming back in this affordable place. Great beds and bathrooms too. Very close to the asian community with lots of markets and restaurants.
George and his wife were very welcoming, picking us up in a snowstorm near the downtown Flushing subway stop. The room is simple and clean. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. There are restaurants and stores within 4 or 5 blocks. The subway stop, at the end of line 7, is an 18 min. walk away and is in the middle of Flushing's Chinatown.
I was puzzled by the "Like a hostel" comment in one review. Now I understand. I would say it is more like a small hotel or pension, with 4 rooms and shared baths. Within that context, it is good place to stay.
Four rooms don’t share a bathroom. There are three rooms on the second floor that share a bathroom and they were all occupied because of New Year’s eve celebrations in New York. The norm is one or two rooms are taken at any given time. The guests that he must have counted as the 4th guests were staying on the third floor and they had their own bathroom, and they were friends, not Airbnb guests.
About the client that made a comment about the '”hostel”, I must say that out of near 100 guests I have hosted he was not happy about a couple of things. One, that he asked me if he could use the kitchen when he was already at the airport in Chicago and I said that we were planning a party with guests over the weekend and that I needed full use of the kitchen myself. He traveled with loads of cooked, frozen food for him and his girlfriend, so I ended up having to warm up about seven containers of his food overflowing and half broken with his mothers Jamaican cooking. Everything got soiled, the microwave, the stove, etc. He then washed the dishes in the bathroom sink and I had to interrupt my party and go upstairs to clean the bathroom a second time. It was a bother because I was trying to entertain people that we had invited for dinner in the yard. He later texted me to say how rude we were that he wasn’t invited to our dinner get together.
He couldn’t say that the room was dirty, or that we gave him dirty towels, or that the bathroom was ugly, so his derogatory comment was that the house was like a hostel. I in turn had left a not very favorable review, the first and only, and after a few weeks, I called Airbnb and asked them to delete it. He didn’t reciprocate the favor. I still won’t mention his name.
The stay went very well the location was perfect. The room was very spacious & clean. Even though the bathroom is shared with just a few other people it's kept very clean. Pat was a very good host she was always available along with George. It was perfect for quality time with my partner; we may go back again next year.
George and Pat are very kind, enthusiastic and considerable. Pat is a very diligent host and always keep room neatness every day. My wife and I enjoy all the cheerful apartment. It is big, quite and orderly room in a very safe neighborhood. Their house is close to the the bus station(Q65) and subway. Thank George and Pat and Happy New Year!
i stay in George's house for three days. it was a nice and clean room. bathroom is shared with other two rooms. but he keep it clean and tight. the place is bit far from the central of flushing (about 1.5km). but you can always take bus Q65, even it's bit unscheduled.
I am very happy with me and my sons stay at George's house. When we arrived after a detour with a Yellow Cap George's Pat stood ready to greed us after she had used a considerable amount of time trying to direct the cap driver on the phone. Pat's warmth was a joy.
We enjoyed the room and even god an airbed for my son - not by asking, but by Pat's empathy and understanding of a teenager.
Both Pat and George are pleasant, accommodating and helpful. I warmly recommend others to enjoy a stay.
George is very nice host. The room is cozy and clean and you will find a lot of privacy in his place (separate entrance to the guest rooms). Also big plus for big bathroom.
Felt more like a hostel.
This was the first time we were using Airbnb. From the beginning we were encouraged by the positive reviews of the place and the responsiveness of George to all our requests. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful, and really made our first experience using Airbnb very positive. The house was kept clean at all times, even when all rooms were occupied. We really appreciated having a fridge and breakfast facilities to our disposal, while the snacks, coffee and tea provided are indicating of the hospitality of George and Pat. The room is spacious and there is ample closet space allowing for keeping the room in order during our stay. Wifi has made our daily planning much easier. The neighborhood is quiet and there are in close proximity a number of caffes, restaurants, super market, laundrettes, pharmacies etc. Getting to Manhattan is pretty straightforward via a bus-just around the corner-and subway #7 and takes on average just about an hour with regular trains (there is also the option of express trains at certain times of the day). A place we would definitely recommend!!!
Definitely yes! It was just an amazing experience. George and Pat are very helpful and pleasant people. They helped me with every little thing, which I addressed. Felt like a special guest. Definitely they are the first people to whom I turn next time.
The room is big and it's pretty easy to get to downtown Manhattan.
