Vive Le Carroll Gardens! New York Magazine just rated Carroll Gardens in top 10 areas to live/work/play in NYC!!
The Brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood that was once an Italian stronghold is quickly becoming the city's Little Paris - fueled by a new French program at a local public school.
Neighborhood playgrounds have recently filled up with French-speaking tots - making it easier these days to find croissants than cannoli on Court St., where merchants have seen a surge in French families looking for favorite products from home.
French government officials estimate there are as many as 20,000 French residents in Brooklyn, more than in Manhattan, with the largest concentration in Carroll Gardens. Butcher John McFadden, whose family owns Staubitz Meat Market, has seen a surge in demand for French-style racks of lamb, boeuf bourguignon and filet mignon. 'It's doubled, tripled, recently,' McFadden said. 'It's good for us.'
Carroll Gardens' other main strip, Smith St., has become so French that restaurant owners launched a Bastille Day celebration. 'If you come to my restaurant on Saturday or Sunday, everyone is speaking French,' said Jean-Jacques Bernat, whose postcard-perfect French bistro on Smith St., Provence en Boite, has begun stocking special candies and other goodies, especially for the nabe's growing numbers of homesick expats.
F/G is a 6 min walk. A/C is a 8 min walk. 10 min to SOHO. 25 min to TIMES SQUARE.
Had a great stay at Loretta's place. There were 8 of us, and we fit well in the 3 bedrooms + really comfy couch in the kitchen/dining/living area. The communal space isn't huge, but did accommodate our group well enough for cooking and socializing.
No complaints. Clean, well-kept, comfortable and in a great neighborhood.
Loretta's 3 bedroom apartment was perfect for a weekend stay in New York with friends! It is conveniently located in between the neighborhoods of Gowanus and Boerum Hill, with access to fantastic restaurants, bars, the NY Transit Museum, and the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club. The apartment has easy accessibility to multiple subway lines.
The apartment is exactly as advertised on Loretta's listing. It's very clean, open, bright and fits 7-8 people, comfortably. The beds are very cozy, the rooms are private, and there are cooking supplies and simple ingredients stocked in the kitchen (ketchup, oil, sugar etc...)
We had a little miscommunication with Loretta about check-in, but that was quickly rectified. Loretta was kind enough to let us check out late, and that definitely helped get our large party of 7 clean up and mobilize. There is some street noise in the mornings, but that's par for the course with many street-facing New York apartments.
I'd definitely return to Loretta's place on my next visit to Brooklyn!
Loretta's place is clean and spacious. Great host.
The reservation was canceled 29 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The apartment is clean and available time.
ideal location for Brooklyn and times squares!
Loretta was a great host! She was responsive and helpful at all times. The apartment is spotless, well equipped, and very comfortable. We greatly enjoyed our stay.
My stay in Brooklyn was made absolutely perfect with special thanks to Loretta. I couldn't have asked for a more accommodating and hospitable host!! Any question I had was responded to instantly and answered very warmly. The apartment was as described and it was absolutely beautiful and clean. The pictures, completely do this wonderful space justice. Everything was just so comfortable and nice. I know if I ever need a place to stay again when I'm visiting Brooklyn this will, without a doubt, by the place. Thank you again, Loretta!! :)
We had a great moment in this nice apartment complitely renovated.
and it is very well situated next to Smith and Court were are all the bars and restaurants.
Thank You Loretta! Judith
Perfect place for large groups. I came here with 7 of my college friends for a bit of a reunion and it couldn't have worked out better. The place was spotless, looked just as it did in the pictures and close to a lot of great bars, restaurants, etc. While I never met Loretta, she was always reachable by phone. I have zero complaints.
