Great home base to explore the city! In the heart of the Bywater/St.Claude neighborhood, we're a short walk to most Bywater bars & restaurants, and a 4 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride down to the French Quarter.
The apartment is an artsy one bedroom shotgun with newly refinished hardwood floors, 12 ft ceilings, old school pocket doors, and lots of sun light! There's a big backyard and porch to hang out on, and a well stocked kitchen with an antique gas stove, and beautiful curvy cabinets, as well as coffee for your stay. There's free WIFI, a stereo, and a washer and dryer on site.
The house has a big double bed, a queen sized pull-out sleeper couch, and daybed. Both the bed and pull-out couch have super comfortable memory foam mattresses. The apartment easily sleeps 5.
There are 3 guest bikes to borrow (an eclectic but working mix of cruisers and road bikes). It's the very best way to get around the city!
Interaction with Guests
If I'm not around to greet you when you get in, my brother, Walker, lives upstairs and is on hand for any questions you have about the apartment or the bikes. Check out his restaurant, Kebab, right down St. Claude for the best sandwiches in town!
We're a block in on the lake side (north side) of St. Claude Ave. The neighborhood is super diverse, a mix of working class families and artists. The house is on a quiet street but a short walk to Vaughn's, BJ's or Bacchanal for live music almost every night of the week. Delicious restaurants like The Joint, Satsuma or Elizabeth's are also all within walking distance. We're right around the corner from the St. Claude Arts District, Shake Sugary bakery, and the Alvar Library, and only six blocks to Crescent Park- a brand new park the runs along the Mississippi River through the length of the Bywater.
Transportation is easy- the house is a block away from the St. Claude bus line, which connects to the streetcar lines, and airport shuttles downtown. There's also street parking on the river side of the house. A cab ride from the French Quarter is around $10 with tip.
Other Things to Note
New Orleans is a social city. In my neighborhood you say, "How you doing," or "Good afternoon/Good night" to almost everyone you pass on the street. Adopt the practice, say hello to people and see the city like a local.
No smoking in the house, but you are welcome to smoke on the front porch or in the backyard.
Please take the garbage out with you when you leave.
Gabrielle's house was lovely and as described. The bikes were a great way to explore the neighbourhood as well as the wider city. There were some great bars in the local neighbourhood and the French Quarter was easily accessible. Recommended!
Gabrielle's house was the perfect setting for a girls trip to NOLA. Fit 6 of us comfortably with the twin air mattress also provided on the property.
Plenty of on street parking close to the house. Air conditioning units and fans kept us cool even when it was warmer outside. Well stocked kitchen allowed us to easily prepare meals.
The back yard was perfect for unwinding at night and we enjoyed meeting Gabrielle's brothers and other guests that stayed next door, provided a sense of community while we were away from home. Lots of great bars and food close to house that are well worth checking out! Highly recommended!
Gabrielle was a great host. For starters, she responded to my request within an hour. The price was great, and the description was accurate. The neighbors were friendly. We walked to the bus stop with our kids and hitched a ride into the French Quarter. We tried to use the bikes but we didn't have a wrench to attach our bike trailer for the kids so we didn't get a chance. My 5 year old LOVED the place (he actually didn't want to leave) and my husband wanted to read all her books. When we visit New Orleans again we hope to stay at Gabrielle's again.
Though I did not meet Gabrielle, her communication could not have been better.
The apartment fit our group very well for the four nights we were there. Great neighborhood experience, away from the clichés of Bourbon St (though you must go there if you haven't). Gabrielle left a thorough guide which was also very insightful.
The place and linens were very clean and we enjoyed our stay.
Everything was great. The house is in a great neighborhood. The French Quarter & especially Frenchman's Street with the music clubs are only 12 minutes away by bike. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT rent a car, but us the bikes provided by Gabrielle & the trams to travel all over the town. Gabrielle has some good restaurant suggestions & places to go. Eat at Bacchanal & The Joint in the neighborhood. Don't miss Dooky Chase's in the Treme.
Gabrielle was an excellent host and always responded quickly when I had questions. The house is very cozy and welcoming, and there was a great list of restaurants/coffee shops/entertainment all within minutes of her home. Excellent first AirBnB experience, will definitely stay here again!
This was my first time using Airbnb and I didn't know exactly what to expect. I must say that Gabrielle made it a great experience. She was always quick to respond to any of my questions before and during the trip. When we first arrived I was worried because the the taxi driver said that the house was in a bad neighborhood. I messaged Gabrielle and asked if we should be worried and she said just be friendly and say hi to people on the street. We didn't have any problems during the day or night. She was right because everyone around there were very friendly. The house came equipped with all the basics that you need (sheets, pillows, cookware, bathroom essentials, etc.). The guide / suggestion list she provides is very helpful. There were a lot of good restaurants within walking distance. Elizabeth's was great for breakfast by the way. We didn't utilize the bikes but was nice to know they were there if we needed them. We walked and rode the bus and trolleys. It was great having the bus stop right around the corner. The house was clean and I loved cooking on the old gas stove. All in all I had a great time and would definitely stay here again.
