CHEERS AND HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!
Great experience. Gabriel was helpful with anything I asked. Apartment is clean, homely and spacious for 2 people. People like Gabriele make airbnb work!!
The apartment is conveniently located within a few minutes walk from a railway station. It is neat and comfortable and Gabriele was very easy to deal with.
We arrived at the apartment in the morning because we got in early. No problem getting there as the directions provided were perfect. While waiting for the room to be ready, Gabrielle sent us off for a quick breakfast nearby. The room itself is clean and comfortable. The beds are spacious and we had a great sleep, no problem with noise as earlier reviews had mentioned. Small snacks provided were a great touch and we were able to watch a couple of world cup games on the TV in the room. The Internet in the room was still down but we were given a pocket WiFi (make sure the pocket WiFi is placed near the window) which was helpful for exploring Rome. Gabrielle was very responsive and replied quickly to our messages. I had left something in the apartment in my last day and Gabrielle made sure that the item was returned to me. Would've to stay there again!
Pleasant neighbourhood. Near metro.
Location: This was a great spot for my girlfriend and myself. It was a short walk to the Metro, which are incredibly easy to use (can purchase your ticket from a machine inside) and navigate. However, you could walk with your backpacks from the train station just make sure it's not too hot. The Colosseum was only about a 15-20 minute walk from the apartment. It was great to be so close to it. You could easily catch a 5 minute bus trip though (get your tickets from a tobacconist, bar or metro).
Apartment: The apartment was pretty well kept. Just be cautious with the length of shower as the hot water won't last an incredibly long time but totally doable. However, Gabriele has written tips for this for you. Unfortunately, the wifi modem in the house wasn't working but we managed to borrow Gabriele's pocket wifi modem (THANK YOU!). I think due to the thickness of the walls, it's hard to get cell phone reception in the apartment but you can very easily pop upstairs to call or message anyone.
Local stores: There were a bunch of cafes located around the apartment and loads of farmacias (pharmacies). If you're looking for food stores, there were a lots of fruit and veggie stores around with great local products. However, if you're looking for a supermarket (Carrefour) it's best to locate the one just next to the Colosseum. As my girlfriend has a food allergy, we had to utilise this a little bit. Otherwise, there's plenty of places around to grab whilst your on your way!
Host: Gabriele was amazing! Extremely responsive, incredibly accommodating and an overall great guy. He even helped us to coordinate ourselves back into the building after we left the keys inside the safe thinking the buzzer would let us back in (AGAIN, THANK YOU, GABRIELE! :D). Upon entry, there were little snacks welcoming us into Rome. A great touch and introduction to Italian hospitality. Would easily recommend anyone to stay here.
Our experience was less than stellar. It is a basement apartment meaning that it is dark and damp. There were several areas that had mold. The linen closet had a strong smell of mildew, making the comforter unusable. The stove was operable but there were no matches to light burner since it is not an electronic starter. Good thing I am a Camp Fire Girl from way back because I brought a lighter, even though I do not smoke. The internet was spotty at best. There were two over head lights burnt out that made map reading a challenge. The cleanliness was below my standards as the toothbrush holder was grungy with old toothpaste drippings. The toaster worked but was also grimy to touch. Finally, some of the outlets either fell apart when touched or were unusable. It was a very unpleasant stay. However, the location was excellent and he did try to respond to some of our needs.
Dear friends, I read your review. I am sad for your words harsh and aggressive.
Perhaps you have been influenced by the small altercation on the first day.
Another time sorry but affect guests in this way is not kind.
I am at your disposal for your next stay. I am sure that your review will be perfectly in line with all the many others that make me happy to offer my home to friends from all over the world.
We had a good stay at 'home sweet home'... Good location.
Nice apartment with lots of space and close to the Metro. Having a washer/dryer was very useful. Gabrielle was a helpful host. Left some snacks and vouchers for coffee and croissants. The coffee was the best we had in Europe. The internet wasn't working so Gabrielle let us use the portable wifi which was great for mapping our way around the city and doing research.
Thanks to Gabriele for a nice stay. Manzoni is a quiet neighborhood, but convenient to most of Rome's sights. Gabriele got into town and said hello, good to see him. Internet had problems, but a good stay.
The apartment's location was great. It is walking distance from Metro station, and colosseum. Had a basket of snacks and coffee complimentary to welcome.
