Guests describe this as one of the most unique stays they've had, with many returning
We are across the street from UMH and a 7 min stroll to the top of Warren, This is a park setting, totally removed from any living soul with acres to stroll and explore!! I'm so sorry we have been regulated to only accepting a minimum of 30 nights.
The cemetery that surrounds this Craftsmen 4 room School House is located in the midst of one of the most gorgeous historic cemeteries in all of America, Tailored after the cemeteries in Europe, It is like walking through a 3 D history lesson!!
The space
This is a no shoe room and we ask guests to respect the space accordingly. Built in 1900 this Craftsmen's 4 room School House is located in the midst of one of the most gorgeous historic cemeteries in all of America, and a short 7 minute walk into town. Tailored after the cemeteries in Europe, it was created as a park to entice visitors. Many Hudson River School Painters made this their final resting place as well as famous inventors and titans of Industry. It is verily like walking through a 3 D history lesson.
This particular room is our pride & joy. Built around a 18th century Opium Wedding bed, it is an artistic blend of Asian and contemporary design. We made the bathroom & kitchen out of steel & frosted glass.
We feel it is truly a spiritual space in complete harmony with the natural beauty of the surrounding park/cemetery.Please let us know beforehand if you would rather not have incense in the room!!!
Guest access
You will have access to this second story 750 sq.ft. classroom of the School House which has been converted into a studio loft space with a kitchen, bathroom, living space, 48" flat screen TV and authentic Chinese Wedding Bed (futon bed 80" x 50"). You also have access through the back door, to the fire escape landing and steps leading out to the Cemetery Park. On beautiful days you will encounter 3 cockatoos on the adjacent landing who will inquire about your health & well being and try to entice you to hang with them for a while (the whole day if they had their way) You are also welcome to use the washer & dryer located in the basement
Other things to note
important to note is that the bed is an authentic futon and is 50" x 80"

Neighborhood highlights
I love that this place is a haven, a quiet place for contemplation, writing or artful pursuits and that it is a 10 minute walk to Warren street and all its delights!!! This place is also IDEAL for the athletic. There are miles of winding paths everywhere....
FOR OUR WINTER GUESTS: a 10 minute walk in Winter can feel more like an hour when it's bitter cold. Remind whoever greets you to show you the shortcut through the cemetery and think twice about not just getting a taxi to Warren. its only a 2 minute drive ....
As a local who can't always afford to take out a second mortgage to pay for a dinner on Warren... my favorite restaurant is (for TAKE OUT ..not much ambience)is Taste of The Caribbean, right down the hill on the Square next to the St Charles. It's the best bang for your buck. $15 for a plate of food you'll be finishing the next morning with your eggs ..Curry Goat, pulled or Barbequed chicken and Oxtail. SO good. BUT and THIS IS IMPORTANT:
ask Anne Marie when you walk in, if she can accommodate you within 7 minutes, and that you are in a hurry.. otherwise you might be there on Caribbean Time ;) There is also The Hudson Curry House if you like Indian... but it is on Fairview Ave, so you'd have to drive or cab it.. but it's only minutes away.
I also LOVE Le Gamin Country right on Warren, and that place is worth every penny, Ive never had a bad meal there and ambience is wonderful.
