A very original, beautiful experience, this is the accomodation we'll remember for this trip! We were eally well received and would go back tomorrow.
There are many Hawaiian experiences, and a lovely cabin in the jungle is definitely one of the nicer ones. Pitch black nights, loud and entertaining frogs, cool breezes and the sound of rain. Awesome.
Just down the road a few miles is a really great cafe, and Saturday morning's farmers' market just about a mile away is well worth your time. Great people, good prepared food, and great fruits, veggies, honey, etc...
Be aware that you 15 miles from the nearest town, so groceries and restaurants (other than the cafe) require a little planning.
This place was just a beautiful as it looks in the pictures. The cabin itself is beautifully crafted and the shower and outhouse were great. Kealahi was very accessible and helpful during our stay. We were there with our baby which makes one a little more conscious of cleanliness and this place looked like it needed a deep clean. Also, things were really damp, (not sure if this is reserved only for the wet season..but its wet pretty much all the time in Puna) but the sheets and futon couch and throw pillows felt damp and musty/moldy which definitely made things less comfortable. All in all, if you can get used to the sticky feeling of Puna, this place is wonderful and a really unique, inspiring way to live on the Big Island.
This really adorable eco-cabin is a special place, we had three weeks here and enjoyed very much. Shower and toilet in the forest and the house itself, which looks like a tent was a good and special place to be. We would recommend this place for those who like the nature and the frogs...
