The space
A stazzo is the typical rural settlement of Gallura, the region north of Sardinia characterized by extreme dispersion of the population in the territory: the first settlers, instead of founding villages, decided to spread in tiny family units that had to be entirely self-sufficient, as they were distant from each other sometimes for kilometres. Thus the inhabitants of the stazzo were at the same time farmers and shepherds, capable of building houses, stone walls, fences, making tools, clothes, shoes and everything they could possibly need. This way of life is now considered a proper culture in its own right, “the stazzo culture”. Being a very barren land rich in granite boulders, the stazzo boundaries often stretched for several hundred hectares. The house was the center of the unit and around it were built, often in circular shape, the stockyards, the orchard, the vineyard, vegetable garden and fields.

Many of these features are still found in our old stazzo which was abandoned in the '60s, and miraculously escaped questionable remakes in "smeraldiano" style. This has enabled us to intervene with a careful restoration, leaving the signs that time has imprinted on the old structures intact.
We used only recycled materials, and each operation was preceded by painstaking observations and research on building methods and lifestyles of those who preceded us, to avoid the risk of altering proportions and harmonies that only the wisdom and sensitivity of generations of farmers were able to create.
Particular attention has been paid to the outside, in order to integrate quiet corners where you can relax against a backdrop of majestic granite stones and old shady trees.

The stazzo is located behind “the front lines”, hidden away from the bustle of the coast, still only a few minutes away: about 8 km to the east there is the beach of Rena Majore, the first in a long line of white beaches that stretch for over 10 km, allowing to find space for quiet moments even in high season. 10 km to the north we find the marina of Porto Pozzo, where you can embark on the tour of the archipelago of La Maddalena or rent a boat.

In this environment we provide two houses with 4 beds each (1 double and 1 bunk), complete with kitchen and bathroom as to organize your stay in complete autonomy. Both have a shady veranda for outdoor dining. We also have a double room with bathroom for exclusive use, which can be separate or combined with one of the lodges as an opportuniy of having a second bedroom suitable for two couples of friends.
The houses are furnished with old furniture and complete with everything necessary, including sheets and towels.
However we do not provide either televisions or air-conditioning – their use does not match our countryside lifestlyle - as to minimize fuel consumption, waste and pollution sources. For this reason we have a photovoltaic system producing electricity, a solar-powered pump for the well, heating is by wood and we recycle purified water for subsurface irrigation of the garden.
Breakfast and dinner can be shared with us in a very friendly atmosphere.
For cooking we largely use the products of our garden while for meat, wine and cheese we turn to local suppliers. We also produce grain, honey, eggs and great myrtle liqueur.
For those travelling light we can also provide umbrellas, beach towels, fridge bags, beach toys, baby stroller and child seats.
We organize day trips by boat to La Maddalena Park to swim in the most beautiful beaches, visit the old military sites, snorkel, observe and discover the magnificent archipelago nature.

Other things to note
The place is very quiet and in open country, so we suggest you to arrive by day, to find us more easily. the last km i on unmade road. There are not pubblic transports to our house. You need your own mean of transport.
