We are a mountain retreat located on the ridges of the Coastal range on the Pacific south west of Costa Rica.
Our sustainable way of life is based on bioagriculture, solar energie, reforestation, arts&crafts, horses & holistic health practices, which you can partake on. Adjacent to the biological corredor "El Paso de la Danta" (The Path of the Tapir)
For the more adventurous, there are nature tours through the tropical forest, hike to the different waterfalls and natural swimming pools.

The space

Margas and Chemas home is a large elegant, two storied round building with a geodesic dome on top for holistic exercises. A large living room with a fire place. Private bathroom in every bedroom. The dinning room and living room have a view to the forest and ocean from 1000 mts above sea level. No grid connection, solar panels and candles. The spring of fresh water is in the property.

With over 25 years experience in sustainable practices.
A large biological farm with organic gardens and fruit trees. Thoroughbred horses, a cross between andalusian and costarrican paso fino.

Caters to naturalists, equestrians, holistic health groups, artists, mystics and clases are given in sustainable practices. Property is adjacent to the Biological Corridor "El Paso de la Danta"

A rural foot path to the beach, 12 kms and the National Marine Park Marino Ballena, where twice a year the humpback whales migrate. Also, there is a large variety of dolphins which make their home in these waters.

Many cascading rivers in the area where to swim, sorounded by tropical forests and spectacular views.

So, what is a sustainable way of life? It is a friendly relationship with nature, where the "cost of living" is directly related to minimicing environmental impact and a true economy based in frugality, recycling, craftsmanship, growing your own food and avoiding consumerism.

It is important that you know that we are not a business, it is just our way of life and you share our home and way of life with us.

Breakfast is included, other meals are available with an additional cost. Please let us know ahead of time. It is possible to hire a naturalist guide and horse back ridding. All these services are payed in cash.

There is a daily public bus service, except Sundays, to a nearby village, 3 kms. Taxi is also available.

One can also participate in the voluntary hands-on sustainable practices, which are Margas and Chemas way of life. Such as gardening, reforestation and horse care.

For more than 2 persons, please contact us for special prices.
The whole villa is also available, it has capacity up to 20 people

Chema and Marga were amazing hosts, and their home is absolutely stunning. It was such an amazing and unique experience to live with them for several days and learn about their permaculture and sustainability model. Their home is beautifully built through models of sacred geometry and holds the most wonderful energy. Marga cooked all of our meals, and they were beyond anything we could have expected. She has a true gift with cooking, and used all authentic costa rican ingredients- most of which came from their own gardens! Chema and Marga were kind, helpful, and wonderful hosts. It is a true gift to experience their way of life!

We were warmly welcomed when we arrived! The directions on Airbnb were inaccurate, they said it was 3km from Uvita beach when in fact the house was 1.5 hours from the nearest beach. Had we known, we would have planned a shorter stay. The road to get up to the house is quite rough; so going in and out of town is not recommended during the stay, although it can be done with a 4X4. Our suggestion is to pay for the lunch and dinner (delicious!) and also bring some snacks (sardines, avocados, crackers, etc) that do not need refrigeration as there is no communal kitchen/access to a fridge. The views from the house are incredible and there are a couple of hikes from the house that we enjoyed.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Chema & Marga's house for only 2 days, but it was a lot of fun visiting. The road to Uvita beach from their house was washed out and our trip to the beach ended up taking 2 hours more via San Isidro, but the drive wasn't so bad and we got to attend a town festival at Soccoro Chema told us about. So, we had a little more adventure with locals and got to try some yummy food. In the evenings,we really enjoyed listening to Chema's stories about their background and their sustainable way of living. Marga made us hearty meal with freshest ingredients around, and yummy tea mix of camomile and wild mint. Marga now has a refrigerator in her kitchen if you are looking to keep something cool. They built the beautiful house themselves and made their own furnitures as well as the clothes they were wearing. As a designer, I was very impressed checking them out. We stayed in room #5. It had a nice view outside of the window, and with no electricity and candle light, it reminded us 'Game of Thrones'. The bed in our room wasn't the most comfortable though, so if having a straightened mattress matters to you, I would check with them about other room options. Overall, we had unforgettable experience at Chema & Marga's If you are planning a visit to their house, I would recommend staying at least 3 nights or more to enjoy everything they have to offer. Thank you Chema & Marga for your wonderful hospitality and we'll be emailing you photos soon! Best wishes, EJ

We are native from Madrid, Spain. Residing in Costa Rica since 1976, following a sustanable way of life. We offer holistic health and sustainable practices seminars. We also offer horse back riding for experienced riders and nature hikes through the tropical forest and to the local waterfalls and pools.
For us to have a guest is a way to share our way of life, to promote a sustainable life and to make friends.
Our main object is two fold, first is to simplify our way of life by practicing sustainable techniques and regenerative activities; second is to be minimizing our impact on the planet, that is, that our ecological footprint would be less and as we see it, is about quality of life instead of standard of living.
