We stayed at Casa Tordesillas for 3 days and it was a magical experience. Surreal surrounding, clean air, absolute peace and quite and of course very caring hosts made my trip to Costa Rica unforgettable. Wake up at 5:30 to see beautiful sunrise over the mountains, walk around barefoot to let your feet feel the cool mountain dew on the grass, walk up to the edges of the property to see the infamous strip Whale Tail, watch over the breakfast how the clouds swim to over the valleys and have a delicious candlelight dinner next to the real fireplace. I honestly cannot oversell this place, it is just magical. Chema and Marga have beautiful Andalusian horses, absolutely majestic creatures, that took us to the nearby isolate waterfalls via steep mountain trails. Also, there are few jungle trails and smaller natural pools near the property if you want to take a walk. House with a spacious dome, itself is also a work of art, Chema and Marga practically built it themselves including making the gates and furniture. Also ,Marga is an amazing cook so make sure you will ask her to cook for you. I doubt that any of the local dining spots can compete with her.
The only problem is the transportation, one way taxi from San Isidro itself will end up costing around $44 ,so plan accordingly.
Jema and marga are amazing hosts. They are inspiring generous and full of charm.
Marga is a magical chef and jema an inspiring visionary that can keep you all night with his stories and wisdom.
There place is one of the most beautifulll points around. Defenetly one of the highlight of our trip. Recommend with live
Chema and Marga are wonderful hosts and go out of their way to ensure that guests have a positive and enriching experience. Their way of life and devotion to improving the planet by preserving natural resources and the environment is inspiring. Chema is a wonderful story teller and it is insane how much his knowledge and energy he has. Marga is a wonderful cook and warm person. I recommend visiting to re-think your way of life.
This was an experience not to be missed! They are both wonderful hosts, the food is perfect, the landscape is as well. You get to learn and discuss a lot. It is amazing to see how beautifully quiete life can be. Warning: spending to much time there might make you want to quit your day job and go for some off the grid living yourself!
A house in the cloud mountain. Not a place for everyone but a lovely and magical place. It's fairytale like. Chema has a wealth of knowledge. Marga is an amazing cook! They and their home were absolutely delightful...I will cherish my time there. Everyone should experience this at least once in their lifetime. I definitely plan on going back.
Casa Tordesillas is a rare gem- a sustainable farm set in the mountains atop a cloud forest overlooking the ocean and surrounded by lush jungle and clear, cool rivers and waterfalls. As gorgeous as this handmade geodesic dome shaped structure and the surrounding properties are, it is truly the company that makes the experience. Chema and Marga are gracious, welcoming hosts- two genuine, unique, intriguing and passionate individuals who believe in the promoting and educating the community on sustainable living, and practice what they preach.
Marga's cooking is fantastic and the meals are reasonably priced- take her up on every opportunity to dine at the house. Chema's horseback tour with his sweet, feisty mares is well worth every penny.
I stayed for 6 nights, and could have easily stayed 6 more. Thank you, Chema and Marga, for the peace, relaxation and inspiration I sought in my trip to Costa Rica. I am positive we'll meet again some day!
We had an amazing time with Chema and Marga. Their home is beautiful in a serene location. On our first day we took a long hike to an isolated waterfall with natural pool in the middle of the jungle, not far from their house. And on our second day, they took us horse back riding through the mountains which was quite an adventure! We rode through banana, coffee and sugar cane farms and saw stunning views of the surrounding hills. They are both extremely knowledgable about sustainability and have lived off the grid in CR for many years. We will never forget our time at Cada de Tordesillas. Thank you both so very much!
I agree with all the things that said Ellen..I was looking for an experience and not a simple touristic trip, well I had it.Now i'm back to Paris, and it seems to me that it was light years ago in another planet, essentially because I was in a very peculiar place, near paradise, with exceptional people. You learn.., there is a lot of wisdom in the air, interesting conversations, peace, meditation, adventure, and Marga's delicious macro biotic food..you learn to live with nature's rhythm..Impatient Parisian like me have to adapt, adapt to the essential.. you go there to forget..and forget, your personal lifestyle.
Chema and Marga open their homes and hearts to share their sustainable story. Although it was rainy season, my days were full of adventures: walking through the forest on guided and private tours, horseback riding into town and enjoying the peaceful cadence of the "Hobbits Paradise".
Days begin with the rising sun: 6AM breakfast, tend to the horses (if you please), 10:30 2nd breakfast of fresh fruit from their trees (white pineapple, mango, banana, mandarin, grapefruit - which I viewed from my bedroom window). Some gentle tasks around the farm, or other trips. Divine organic and delicious Marga lunch. Siesta from 1-3, and stunning sunsets from the mountain top. Candlelight dinner by the fireplace.
I was working on my video, Earthtalk, and enjoyed hearing of Chema's unique and fascinating story. Marga makes their clothes, their bread and they both bring a creative connection with the earth, demonstrating good living in hard times.
They are well respected locally and regionally (I sat on my return trip next to a friend of theirs, coincidentally). My own connection with the earth,Gaia, is stronger, as is my global perspective. I return with a renewed desire for authentic Homeland Security.
You will not find better hosts than Marga and Chema. They have a heart of gold. They received us with warmth, cooked excellent food, guided us on trips in the neighboring mountains, and entertained us with stimulating conversations. There was also a plenty of time for us to simply relax and soak up the peace and solitude of the could forest. This is a perfect spot for those who treasure nature and like to follow the rhythms of the sunrise and sunset. If you preserve a bit of the energy for the evening (having done hiking, horseback riding, swimming in waterfalls, or at the beach during the day), you will enjoy the warmth of the fireplace, stimulating conversations, and perfectly star filled skies spreading over the luscious greens of the jungle.
Marga is an amazing cook. Her dishes are always made out of local, fine produce and she prepares them with a mastery of a world class chef form the cloud forest. Chema is a wilderness guide and an intellectual with wealth of knowledge and passion in the areas of environment and sustainability. Chema and Marga made us feel welcome and made sure that we had all we needed to have an amazing experience during our stay.
