Description

The space

The Cottage is a studio with a spacious covered lava-rock lanai and sliding glass doors that open completely to the outdoors, bringing the “outside inside." It is surrounded by coffee trees, palms, and avocado trees for added privacy. The floor plan has large room with a queen bed, one bath with a shower and a walk in closet. The west facing sliders open to a covered lanai. A teak table, four chairs and a gas barbeque provide for fine outdoor dining. The modest kitchen has a Subzero two-drawer refrigerator, deep sink, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, range/stove, tea kettle, cook ware, cooking and dining utensils. The bathroom shower is unique because it one wall is made from lava rocks. Wifi and private parking.

Kona and Holualoa
My farm is only a ten minute drive down the mountain to Kona Town for shopping, sight-seeing and beautiful white sand beaches for swimming and snorkeling.
Holualoa is a quaint town located 3 miles south of the farm. The town is an artist-community and home to numerous art galleries. Mamalahoa Highway is a historic road, the High Road, and runs through the heart of Kona Coffee Belt with many fascinating towns, galleries, farms and historical sites.

Check in is 3pm. Check out is 11am. No late check out allowed.

Guest access

Beaches, hiking, exploring Hawaiian heiaus.
20 minute drive to white sand beaches, like Kahalu'u and the Kona Pier for snorkeling.

My property offers respite from the busy tourist town of Kona. It's only 15 minute drive down Palani Street to town and shopping, or to Costco.

Interaction with guests

I spend some time on the mainland. A second house is located on the property, Also a vacation rental. Both homes are private and quiet.

The neighborhood

Very private in a tropical jungle with lots of fruit trees and tropical plants. The night sounds include coqui frogs, geckos, and sometimes roosters. Although I have not heard roosters recently. Ear plugs are recommended for light sleepers. Additionally it gets cool in the evening in the winter because we are on the slope of a mountain at 1200 feet in the Kona Coffee Belt. Please bring a sweat shirt or jacket in the winter to wear in the evening.

Getting around

Please rent a car. Very limited public transportation.

Other things to note

The nightly price includes 9.75 occupancy tax required by the state.

Beautiful space away from Kona. If you need a natural oasis, this is your spot. There are a lot of nature sounds --birds, frogs, roosters.. so light sleepers be warned. I though it added to the charm

Motter sent arrival info well in advance of our actual arrival; her instructions were clear and easy to follow. The cottage was nice & the lava rock walls were really neat. The jungle-like surroundings were beautiful and we enjoyed the crickets and frogs at night.

Better than advertised, great communication from the host. We were looking for a place near but not in kona (it was ironman week). Welcome respite in beautifully constructed cabin on the slopes overlooking Kona. Gets noisy with tree frogs and chickens but we liked that.

This cottage is the perfect getaway for 1 or 2 people. Leave the resorts behind and truly relax in the hills above Kona. Fruit on the property provided breakfast each morning. We used the avocados and limes for homemade guacamole in the evenings. The sounds of nature lulled us to sleep at night. It was nice to leave the screens open all night for the cool breeze. Speaking of sleep, neither one of us has slept that well in a long time. The bed and linens were perfect for the cool nights. The cottage design is unique. We enjoyed the open feel. Everything you need is waiting. You won't regret a visit!
