Architect's Private Cottage

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Mamalahoa Highway, Hōlualoa, HI 96725, United States

The Space

The Cottage is a studio with a spacious covered lava-rock lanai and sliding glass doors that open completely to the outdoors, bringing the “outside inside.” It is surrounded by coffee trees, palms, and avocado trees for added privacy. The floor plan has large room with a queen bed, one bath with a shower and a walk in closet. The west facing sliders open to a covered lanai. A teak table, four chairs and a gas barbeque provide for fine outdoor dining. The modest kitchen has a Subzero two-drawer refrigerator, deep sink, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, range/stove, tea kettle, cook ware, cooking and dining utensils. The bathroom shower is unique because it one wall is made from lava rocks. Wifi and private parking.

Kona and Holualoa
My farm is only a ten minute drive down the mountain to Kona Town for shopping, sight-seeing and beautiful white sand beaches for swimming and snorkeling.
Holualoa is a quaint town located 3 miles south of the farm. The town is an artist-community and home to numerous art galleries. Mamalahoa Highway is a historic road, the High Road, and runs through the heart of Kona Coffee Belt with many fascinating towns, galleries, farms and historical sites.

  • This is a beautiful cottage that shares the grounds with the owner's main house. The location is perfect - 5-10 minutes up the hill from Kona, away from the touristy bustle, and just outside the little artist town of Holualoa. The host, Mo Snell, was terrific. We had complete privacy during our stay, but she was nearby in case there was an issue. She was also very helpful in clearing up a AirBnb/scheduling quirk during the booking process.

One note about the house: the bathroom and spare room (with washer and dryer!) are separated by sturdy - permanent - walls, but they have no ceilings of their own; they share the same lofty A-frame ceiling with the main living area. Generally this isn't even noticeable, but there are situations when a bit more privacy might be nice.
