  • IT was very clean and cheery and comfortable. Great part of Portland. The neighbors were quiet and kind.

  • Best experience ever of my years of airbnb hopping!!!!! It was exactly as advertised and much more: the chickens laid eggs; the whole house was immaculate; and the vibe irresistible! Something must be in the water that Nola and her friends had put in: we started learning Argentine tango the second night we slept there!! Then for 5 nights continuously we were addicted!! Nola was the most helpful even prior to our arrival: rec. for restaurants, wisely advising us not to cook because we were surrounded by great food places, where to get flamenco gear even though in the end, I couldn't find any... But we ended up with tango, and everyone knew Nola... The human connection was truly palpable. Be careful staying at this house, for there may be lifelong consequences: your 3 year old daughter may ask you daily to keep chickens in your backyard back home; your husband could be practicing his tango steps in the kitchen; you having trouble forgetting that fresh chewy batard from mount tabor bread company, etc, etc. (And coffee from albina press coffee, and the food carts at Belmont and 45th). Thanks for the restful quiet sleep too on the fanciest mattress!! And the kids loved the reading corner and the lights!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!!!!

  • Nola's gorgeous house is situated in the heart of a relaxing and concurrently exciting neighborhood lined with boutiques, restaurants and night life. Her chickens (and turken!) were very pleasant and friendly as they roamed about the yard. The home itself (and guest home in the back) is spacious, immaculate, and perfect for a small group or couple. Highly recommended!

  • Lovely immaculately clean home resplendent with kindness and warmth from the hosts. Ideal location for the urban experience. Hosts do a fantastic job of making you feel like a Portland local. This was my first airbnb experience and so it begins my sojourn! Synchronicity? I live on an island amidst Lake Superior in Wisconsin, pop. 225. Hosts have first cousins that live year round on this island. What are the chances? This made the stay even more familial and special-
Warm thanks to some warm, hospitable folks!

  • I traveled to Portland for a nice get away and it was an excellent experience! I started off my trip at another airbnb host but was immediately allergic to something in the home. I got online and found Nola's place and found that the room was not booked, after confirming that I was able to book the room. I am so glad I did, the home is inviting, comfortable, clean and free from allergens and other irritants and Nola and her daughter are wonderful hosts. I really enjoyed staying with Nola and her daughter! When I checked in Nola showed me around the house which made me feel instantly welcome and comfortable, I even met the chickens and got an egg from one of them :) The room is spacious and there are plenty of storage spaces plus a desk for your laptop along with guides and maps to plan out your visit. The patio was my favorite place to relax after a day of sightseeing! The surrounding area is full of great shops, cafes, and bars there is also a great juice bar that has delicious juice, smoothies and healthy snacks. This is a great place to stay!

  • We stayed with Nola for 5 days in May, 2014. Nola was a fantastic host! Her home is beautiful and very clean The location is excellent with lots of fun things to do and see in walking distance. My girlfriend and I showed up in Portland with no plans for our vacation. Nola provided us many suggestions of great places to eat and things to do. All of our favorite restaurants of our trip were suggested to us by Nola. Not only is Nola incredibly knowledgeable but she is also a very welcoming host. For example, we spent one night in her home playing board games and with Nola and her daughter. I would absolutely stay with Nola again!

  • We stayed at Nola's house for one week in early April. Our stay was one of our best AirBnb experiences. First, her house is very clean and comfortable. The bedroom had a comfy bed, nice closet space, and even a little desk to work from. The wifi in the house is stable and fast, so you will have no problems placing calls or checking email. The house is nicely soundproofed, and there is even a white noise machine in the bedroom to ensure a great night's rest. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we really appreciated having some yogurt and cereal on hand for a quick bite in the morning! The house is situated only a few blocks from some of the best food and coffee shops in the city.

Aside from the home's amenities, Nola and her daughter were fabulous hosts. They made us feel right at home, and were kind enough to show us some of the best local eateries in town. They are very well-traveled and interesting people, and we had a great time hanging out with them in their backyard. Nola also introduced us to some of her friends from the neighborhood, and really made us feel part of her community during our stay. It was also fun getting to know their chickens too, and helping to gather their fresh eggs from the coop.

Overall, I would highly recommend a stay at Nola's place, and we cannot wait to visit Portland again!

  • Exactly as advertised, but better. Nola's home is warm with laughter and kindness. It was the perfect place for us to come back to each night after days full of challenging family business issues. We were able to relax and unwind in great comfort

Very important, this home is as allergen free as possible. A gem.

  • Everything Nola states in her profile is totally accurate! She deserves **12 stars** out of 5 on everything!! :)

First of all, it is the cleanest place you'll EVER stay. And for those with any allergies of any kind (or for folks like me who don't have any allergies or food sensitivities), her incredibly lovely home is total Nirvana.

Many hosts "claim" to know a lot about Portland, but Nola really DOES know an incredible amount! She also has a wonderful perspective on the intersection of economic and civic/planning issues. You can ask or talk to her about anything!

Again, Nola's house is PERFECTLY clean, stunningly beautiful (and large!), in absolutely perfect condition in every way (which many AirBnB places are not--look at the fine details such as window frames, paint jobs, etc), and in a phenomenal location in upper Belmont, just a few short blocks from both an amazing food cart pod AND the world's largest video store! :) Plus, with the chickens running freely in the back yard and all the wonderful environmental touches, her place and neighborhood give you such an ideal "Portland" feel!!

I would stay here ANY chance I had--perfect ratings for the house, the wonderful owner, the urban (yet still charming and quiet) neighborhood, and the great feeling it gives you for staying in the unbelievably amazing city that Portland is. :)

Dear Travelers, It is so much fun watching Portlandia make fun of our beautiful city Portland, as well as its residents. I could say the same about Father Ted and Ireland. I am a bit of a stereotype of Portland since I have a business in green rentals as well as being an extremely social, nerdy, outdoors loving, book reading person. I have a bunch of Irish influence which makes me a social story-teller who loves guests. I enjoy hosting folks as well as traveling. I have spent time living in Argentina, France, and Hawaii. I live in Ireland as well as in the States. Sharing my home and other properties is lots of fun. I designed the Taylor house be lovely, healthy, green, and efficient- it's the Sustainable Economist in me. The other properties that I list I have remodeled to be fun and healthy as well. The house in Ireland is on my ancestor's land and I grew up going to this house. I have spent the last two years doing a major remodel and it looks great. La Casita was where I taught Argentine Tango for many years and is quite charming. I also have a house that I rent full time that was featured on the GreenRenter site and is an offical G-Rated environmental home. A key thing about what I offer as a host is what I am looking for as a guest. I can't stand chain hotels. They can be quite luxurious but they always come across as impersonal. Give me a fun walkable neighborhood that real people live, work and play- and That is where I wish to stay. My properties are unique luxurious spaces that I created for myself, my family and my community that I can also share with you. One last thing, these are my personal properties so there are no surprises about folks who are subletting through Airbnb. I have a great team (Talia, Anastasia and Mike) who take care of things when I am away, but you can always contact me through email with any concerns or questions. I am a social person so hosting comes naturally to me and I have often had folks staying with me even before AirBnB. Friends stay with me or just toss relations and friends my way to take in. Thanks Airbnb for their great forum and community. On last thing, my daughter and I have been experimenting with waffle recipes and we need Waffle taste testers. Cheers, Nuala
