Nola is great. The location is awesome.
Overall very postive experience. Would receommend staying with Nola if looking for an authentic Portland experience.
Nola was a wonderful host and her house is so great. I arrived a little torn up emotionally and felt totally welcomed into her home and family. Felt very cared for- like visiting old friends. Nola is very straight-forward, honest, and super knowledgeable, compassionate and helpful…and really fun too! She also takes incredible care to create a allergy friendly environment. Her daughter is also a really cool kid. I really enjoyed the whole family and look forward to returning soon. Thank you! What a refuge! Looking forward to continued friendship. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Nola's place is AWESOME!! Seriously. It's way better than the photos suggest. The room is super clean, new, and surprisingly large... and surrounded by nature. The bed is cozy and the room is super private. It's like having your own studio apartment. Nola was a great host with lots of recommendations and totally flexible and great. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a perfect portland experience. Ill definitely be back.
Nola was awesome and the loft was exactly what I was looking for. My friend and I ran the Portland Marathon and just needed a place to stay for one night. Nola was incredibly accommodating and friendly. The loft is smack dab in the middle of the Hawthorn neighborhood and is just a 20-minute bus ride from downtown. The loft is pretty basic, but having access to the kitchen and the rest of the main house makes the setup just perfect.
Nola is pretty much my new benchmark for giving an Airbnb host a 5 star rating. She takes pride in making sure you have a place to call home on your trip, and it shows.
Her communications were timely and made check in a breeze. She is
ultra knowledgeable about Portland, and super helpful when it comes to making sure you have everything you need. Her home is clean, beautiful and bright. The house is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood, but still located just a couple minute walk from restaurants, bars and shops.
I will definitely see if Nola's place is available before my next Portland trip. I recommend you do the same.
I was so happy to find out this is the ultimate hypoallergenic house.
Clean, warm and relaxed space. Nola is super nice and a great hostess. close to two bus lines that go straight downtown. A perfect location.
The Hawthorne Artist Loft is an AWESOME spot! It's near everything you could want to do in Southeast Portland, and it's a short drive to everywhere else.
The space is cozy, full of natural light, and private.
Nola is a fantastic host. She's welcoming and full of insight into all of the great places nearby to go for food, coffee, and the must-do experiences Portland has to offer.

About the Host, Nola
It is so much fun watching Portlandia make fun of our beautiful city Portland, as well as its residents. I could say the same about how the show Father Ted made folks really know Ireland- the good, the bad, and the ridiculous.
Well, it is our turn now, and what a great time to live here. There is a Food Renaissance here that is complemented by Art, Tech, Learning, Nature, Sustainability, and some of the friendliest people anywhere.
I am a bit of a stereotype of Portland since I have a business in green rentals as well as being an extremely social, nerdy, outdoors loving, book reading person. And I adore living in Portland and knowing at least a little bit about everything that is going on. What do you want to do?
I have a bunch of Irish influence which makes me a social story-teller who loves guests. I enjoy hosting folks as well as traveling. I have spent time living in Argentina, Mexico, France, and Hawaii. I live in Ireland as well as in the States.
Sharing my home and other properties is my calling. I designed the Taylor house be lovely, healthy, green, and efficient- it's the Sustainable Economist in me. The other properties that I list I have remodeled to be fun and healthy as well. The house in Ireland is on my ancestor's land and I grew up going to this house. I have spent the last two years doing a major remodel and it looks great. La Casita was where I taught Argentine Tango for many years and is quite charming. I also have a house that I rent full time that was featured on the GreenRenter site and is an offical G-Rated environmental home.
A key thing about what I offer as a host is what I am looking for as a guest. I can't stand chain hotels. They can be quite luxurious but they always come across as impersonal. Give me a fun walkable neighborhood that real people live, work and play- and That is where I wish to stay. My properties are unique luxurious spaces that I created for myself, my family and my community that I can also share with you.
One last thing, these are my personal properties so there are no surprises about folks who are subletting through Airbnb. I have a great team (Talia and Anastasia ) who take care of things when I am away, but you can always contact me directly through email with any concerns or questions.
I am a social person so hosting comes naturally to me and I have often had folks staying with me even before AirBnB. Friends stay with me or just toss relations and friends my way to take in. Now thanks to the Share-economy so many things are possible that are community building, sustainable, and amazing.
There are many changes happening with short term rentals and the City of Portland. I am pleased that Portland is seeking a balance between the share-economy and our amazing communities.
