Magical rural setting 5 min. from historic downtown Petaluma, CA. Easy drive to ocean, San Francisco, wine country. Indonesian cottage, king bed, private deck, hot tub, large luxurious bath room/sitting area. Famous biking route. Great breakfasts!
The antique Indonesian cottage is made of beautifully carved and colored teak wood, and is quiet, cozy and romantic with lovely views. It abuts a large private deck and hot tub. Just a few steps across the deck is the very large, luxurious and art filled private bathroom and sitting area.
Aside from the private deck, hot tub and bathroom/sitting room (with 6' tub and shower), guests can access 2.5 peaceful acres, woods and fields, a fantastic tree house and large redwood barn suitable for small gatherings.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interaction with our guests if they so desire.
Completely rural on most beautiful road famous around the world for bicycle trips towards the Pacific coast . Quiet, artistic neighbors. Acres of space on all sides before next homes. 6 beautiful Arabian horses in pasture next door. 5 minutes to historic downtown Petaluma and centrally located for short drives to all Sonoma county wine areas, the ocean and San Francisco.
No public transportation here. Plenty of parking on site and short car or bike ride to transportation in downtown Petaluma.
Other Things to Note
In the 1970's this property was Swallowtail Studios, a famous glass blowers cooperative. The Grateful Dead played in the barn and hung out here...their manager lived just down the road. The barn is redwood, quite large and beautiful, with stained glass windows. It's suitable for small gatherings and is available for an extra fee.

Just a few house rules:
1. The cottage is for 1 or 2 adults only...no children or pets.
2. No smoking indoor or out...severe fire hazard.
3. We are in a bad drought and on a low producing well so ask our guests to be ultra conscious of water use...short showers, turn off faucets, etc.
4. We do like the quiet out here.
5. Enjoy yourself!
We had an amazing weekend in the Indonesian Cottage. Highlights were sitting in the hot tub under the stars, the cozy bed in the cottage, and breakfast conversations with Michelle and Bill.
Will definitely be back to stay in the tree houses!
Michelle & Bob were wonderful hosts during out stay at the Swallowtail Studio. The room itself was beautiful and as other reviewers have noted, Michelle and Bob have ensured that the room and the deck (with the hot tub) is completely private.
Bill and Michelle went really above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable and have done an excellent job of making the space absolutely idyllic.
We cannot wait to come back and stay at one of the treehouses!
Tricky one, Michele and Bill are WONDERFUL, every inch was beautifully decorated however it felt expensive for what it was.
The bathroom is part of their house and didn't feel like 'own home/apt' listing on airbnb. Also it really is a beautiful bedroom however this comes with outdoor temperatures.
Michelle and Bill's Indonesian cottage was an idyllic dream come true and exactly what we needed for a weekend getaway trip. Michelle and Bill were incredibly gracious as hosts and provided an amazing experience which included a delicious breakfast (seriously, try the French toast), a hot tub (!!!) and the cutest cat my girlfriend and I have ever seen.
Located just 10-15 minutes outside of downtown Petaluma, Bill and Michelle's little plot of land is just the perfect location to escape civilization but not be isolated from it.
The area can be a bit chilly so bring a warm jacket and sleepwear. This is mitigated well however by the heating mattress in the bed. Other than that caveat, our stay was impeccably delightful. We will definitely be back to try staying in the treehouses.
Michelle and Bill's home is truly an idyllic spot in Petaluma. M & B are natural hosts and we enjoyed the stories and artwork they shared with us. Breakfast was delicious! Fun to chat with those who stayed in the tree houses also. Last but not least, the Indonesian cottage is a sweet getaway spot with a cozy bathroom across the porch and jacuzzi (who doesn't love that?) Close to town, surrounded by farm land and a scenic drive away from Point Reyes. A+++
Bill and Michelle are the real deal and we couldn't have asked for more generous, friendly, creative, and accommodating hosts! They made us feel welcome and part of their family during our short stay. Each morning, Michelle prepared a delicious breakfast and gave us advice on what to do in the city. The cottage was beautifully decorated and the heat pads were a nice touch. We will definitely be back to try the treehouses!
This space is beautiful. It gets a bit cold--but the electric heating pads keep you nice and toasty. We really loved hiking around Helen Putnam park, which is right down the road, and downtown Petaluma is great for thrift stores and antique shops. Talking with Bill and Michelle over breakfast was also one of the highlights of the trip. Definitely a great spot to check out!
