A calm and comfortable place to rest your feet after an exciting day exploring the city of Edinburgh. A short walk from the main attractions- being based in Leith invites you explore an up-and-coming district of town with great restaurants and bars.
Tucked away in the quiet street of Leith, we have a beautiful Victorian traditional apartment, that has a lovely double room for our Airbnb guests.
The apartment comprises of 2 large double bedrooms (which one of the rooms are for rent) and large bathroom, with shower and bath. Kitchen and large sunny bay-windowed sitting room.
For your stay there are fresh towels and full access the kitchen and living room too. We do not provide breakfast, however there is tea and coffee (Italian Lavazza stove top pot) for you, and feel free to use the kitchen for making your own meals!
The apartment is in the historically rich area of Leith, with supermarkets, great bars and cafes, and severals buses that would whisk you into the action of the city in just 10 minutes or a nice 20 minute walk! In Leith, you'll be able to experience a less "touristy" side of this amazing city- we will point you in the direction of the best seafood restaurants and quirky pubs in the city; but then your only a short walk away to some of the cities major attractions.
We also have a sunny communal garden outside the back and free parking outside on the street. The bedroom looks out over the garden so is nice and quiet, ensure a goodnight's sleep for you.
You'll be sharing the flat with myself and my partner Jay (from Finland!). Jay speaks fluent Finnish, broken Swedish and even more broken Spanish. I speak fluent Scottish (that's just English with a funny accent!) and a little French too! We are often aren't in the flat (working or enjoying the sunshine!) so we hope that our guests just relax and use the place like they would there own home, we are always available for questions/ recommendations.
We have recently relaid new flooring and updated some of the living room furniture. It's even nicer than before, but might be a tiny bit different from the photos! (August 2013).
Feel free to ask us any questions. Emma and Jay.
Access to the full flat. With well equipped kitchen and space in the fridge for you if you want to cook, comfy living room/ dining area and newly- decorated bathroom are all shared. Only area off limits is Jay and I's bedroom (and we don't go into your bedroom too!)
Interaction with Guests
We stay at the flat, but are often popping in out with lots of different work hours, so don't be alarmed if you see lots or little of us (especially little of Jay!).
Super easy to get around from our's. We are around 20 mins on foot to the main city centre and touristic attractions, or Leith Walk beside our flat has buses leaving early 2/3 mins if you don't fancy the walk!
AIRPORT connections: We also have the no.35 Lothian bus that stops 2 minutes from our flat- and goes all the way to the airport. Not super speedy as it goes all through the city centre, but is cheap (just one single fare- £1.50) and takes you door- to- door!
We hope our guests would use our flat like they would there own, with a little bit of love and care!
We want our guests to be as comfortable as possible- so enjoy the living room and kitchen too.
No smoking in the flat.
We live in a shared (beautiful) victorian stairwell, so please be respectful at night with noise as it echos all around!
We like to encourage our guests to not wear shoes around the flat- there is lots of shoe storage in the front hall.
I've stayed here for 2 weeks. Emma and Jay are very friendly people and look after their guests very well, in addition we had a very good communication prior to my arrival.
At the time of my stay I was permanently relocating to Edinburgh and they actually made me feel already at home in my new environment.
The house is very clean and it has a very good internet connection. You can also use the kitchen to prepare your own meals (there are a couple of supermarkets and grocery stores nearby).
The flat is located in Leith, a very interesting and renovated neighbour (approx 20/30 mins walking distance from the city centre and if you don't feel like walking you have the possibility to take many buses on Leith walk) with lots of good international restaurants and pubs.
I truly recommend to stay at Emma and Jay's and, also, to take the opportunity to visit the Edinburgh's harbour from there.
Très bon accueil, logement agréable et bien situé dans le quartier de Leith.
Myself and my boyfriend stayed over Valentine's weekend and it couldn't have been more ideal. Located on the outskirts of the city, a short 5 minute bus journey/ 20 minute walk got us into the city for a day of exploring or a night out in town. Emma and Jay made us feel welcome and emphasised to use the flat as we would our own. The flat was very clean and tidy and the decor was quirky and stylish. The heater in the room meant we were never cold (massive change from the student houses we live in), and the shower was divine. Thank you very much for having us Emma and Jay! Highly recommend to any young couple who are visiting Edinburgh.
Emma & Jay were AWESOME hosts and more than accommodating! The flat/room is super cozy but has nice natural light too. Emma was away prior to & during my visit but her quick & friendly responses put me much at ease. Jay took me out to a local pub on my first night & gave me tips on where to go/what to do in Leith as well as Edinburgh in general. The room had extra attraction info too. I would definitely stay here again & recommend Emma/Jay to friends! Thanks Guys! :)
We can only recommend Emma and Jay. The neighbourhood and flat were very nice. We also appreciated their tips on places to eat/drink in Leith. Should we come back to Edinburgh, we would love to stay at the same flat!
A neighborhood full of character. The house was as described. Top notch recommendations from both Emma & Jay, a warm couple. And a very pretty city!
Hands down the beta stay we have experienced yet on air b n b! It was like staying with friends. Very accommodating, let us have full range in the house and were pleasant to be around. The bed was so comfortable and they are in a great location, about 10 minute walk to the center/lower leith street. Thank you guys!

Hi! We're Emma and Jay!
We are long time fans of Airbnb, both as guests and hosts. We've been hosting for three years now, and welcomed over 400 lovely guests through our apartment door :)
I'm (Emma) an artist and yoga teacher. My partner, who I live with- Jay is from Finland, he's big into reading and martial arts, alongside managing a pub in Edinburgh.
We've both done lots of travelling from working in Tea Estates in India to working for Art galleries in East Canada. Jay lived in Thailand for years and was born in Lapland!
Originally born in Edinburgh, but we met while both living in London, we know this city well. We are fans of quirky, independent and local business- shops, restaurants, bars and cafes included, we will be happy to tell you our top tips when you staying with us. I used to work in a michelin star restaurant in Edinburgh, so will be happy to help you out with reservations and or other tips of good dining spots. Jay will tell you all about where to get the best whiskey and ales in Edinburgh!
We're relaxed and friendly and we hope our guests are too!
