Starr Hill apartment

Apartment - Private room · Nelson Street, Juneau, AK 99801, United States

The Space

A private studio basement apartment nestled in the Starr Hill neighborhood of downtown Juneau. Easy walking distance to all of downtown attractions including tram, capitol building, museums, movie theaters, shopping and restaurants. Also situated at the trailhead for extensive Mt. Roberts & Mt. Juneau hiking. Enjoy Juneau from a quiet historical neighborhood.

Apartment amenities include: private bath with a shower, access to laundry machines; and a private kitchenette with hot-plate, refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven. Sleeping accommodations are in the same room as the kitchenette and table and chairs. The bed is a twin and has a twin trundle beneath (the trundle is a real mattress, not like a camping cot or anything). Plenty of pillows, quilts, and extra blankets for your comfort. Wireless internet is complimentary and quite fast (as long as you don't abuse it, it's also unlimited).

The basement is heated but you will not have access to the thermostat. An electric space heater is available if you wish your room to be warmer than the rest of the house.

If you are doing any fishing while you're in Juneau, feel free to store your catch in our chest freezer (we usually have plenty of space in there). Just remember to clean your catch at the harbor, definitely not at the house. We have too many bears in our neighborhood as it is.

On-street parking is available but limited and unpredictable: often you can park right out front, sometimes you have to find a spot several blocks down the hill.

You can walk to most places downtown easily from our location. The nearest bus stop is at 4th Street and Seward which is about six blocks downhill.

Maximum stay of 7 days preferred.

Guest Access

Guests may use the laundry and the sitting porch out front. If special arrangements are made ahead of time, guests may use our one parking spot as well. If you need anything at all that is not provided in your room, just ask!

Getting around

Capitol Transit is the public bus. There are also plenty of tour buses departing from downtown from May to September as well as taxis year-round.

  • Our stay on Star Hill couldn't have been more of a pleasant surprise! The room is lovely, and Lou' s genuine hospitality was evident from her greeting on. The apartment itself is clean, cozy, and charming. We had everything we needed; from local resources, to snacks, the kitchennette, refrigerator, a hot-plate, private bath, laundry, and wi-fi. This doesn't mention the lovely decor that will both impress and make you feel right at home. We'd love to return again!

  • The Starr Hill Apartment is a lovely place to stay and I enjoyed the meander to and from downtown everyday (it's only a 10 minute walk). I was at a conference in Juneau and having been inside various hotels, including the town's "5 star", I would much rather stay in a B&B like Starr Hill. It was very homely, warm, great hosts and great views. Highly recommended.

  • This place was wonderful. Has everything one could wish for in a BnB. Also very private and quiet room. Hosts are cool people too.

  • Lou and her husband have made a wonderful space that really feels like home. I had a more than comfortable stay, it's in a really nice quiet neighbourhood and I would recommend this to anyone. Thanks Lou!

    Response from Lou:

Thank you Penny. Hope the rest of your travels are fun and interesting. You were a great guest. Come back any time.

  • This place was perfect for me. It's in my favorite Juneau neighborhood right on the edge of the mountain trails and away from tourists and downtown noise. The hosts were lovely and the room / studio was set up with such care and graciousness. The bed was super comfortable too. Personally I pay a lot of attention to lighting because it makes a place feel cozy or barren and I loved the way this little studio was lit. In a place that can often be gray and overcast, one shouldn't undervalue the importance of these things. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • What a wonderful experience. Every thing about our stay was perfect. Our hosts went above and beyond to make our stay the best possible. Excellent advice on hiking, dinners and entertainment.
