About This Listing
A private studio basement apartment nestled in the Starr Hill neighborhood of downtown Juneau. Easy walking distance to all of downtown attractions including Mt Roberts tram, capitol building, museums, movie theaters, shopping and restaurants. Also situated at the trailhead for extensive Mt. Roberts & Mt. Juneau hiking. Enjoy Juneau from a quiet historical neighborhood.
Apartment amenities include: private bath with a shower, access to laundry; and a private kitchenette with hot-plate, refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven. Sleeping accommodations are in the same room as the kitchenette and table and chairs. The bed is a twin and has a twin trundle beneath (the trundle is a real mattress, not like a camping cot or anything). Plenty of pillows, quilts, and extra blankets for your comfort. Wireless internet is complimentary and quite fast (as long as you don't abuse it, it's also unlimited).
The basement is heated but you will not have access to the thermostat. An electric space heater is available if you wish your room to be warmer than the rest of the house.
If you are doing any fishing while you're in Juneau, feel free to store your catch in our chest freezer (we usually have plenty of space in there). Just remember to clean your catch at the harbor, definitely not at the house. We have too many bears in our neighborhood as it is.
On-street parking is available but limited and unpredictable: often you can park right out front, sometimes you have to find a spot several blocks down the hill.
You can walk to most places downtown easily from our location. The nearest bus stop is at 4th Street and Seward which is about six blocks downhill.
Maximum stay of 7 days preferred.
Guests may use the laundry and the sitting porch out front. If special arrangements are made ahead of time, guests may use our one parking spot as well. If you need anything at all that is not provided in your room, just ask!
Capitol Transit is the public bus. There are also plenty of tour buses departing from downtown from May to September as well as taxis year-round.
Dave and Lou's place was a great place to stay while my sister and I explored Juneau. Very homey, beds were very comfortable. Dave was in and out, available to ask questions about places to see and eat at. We did not have a car, so walked to downtown. Their place is at the top of a very steep hill, one day after exploring town, my sister could not make
the trek back up to their place. So took a taxi back. Found out after the fact that Dave, If he was around would have come and got us. Highly recommend their place.
My visit to Juneau was made all the better for staying here. Whilst Lou and Dave were away, their airbnb home was left in the capable hands of Lou's mum, Tamra, and she made me most welcome. Communication was excellent, the property was exactly as described and I enjoyed the short walk downhill into downtown Juneau when I wanted to go exploring. Tamra checked in with me each day, gave me advice and was excellent company. The room itself, was perfect for my needs, with simple kitchen elements, a desk, a comfy bed and adjacent laundry facilities and a private bathroom. I recommend any visitor goes for a walk up Mount Roberts or takes a bus to the Mendenhall glacier and have no hesitation in recommending Starr Hill. Paul
The listed description was very accurate. It's a cute place and we enjoyed staying there.
Lou and Dave's place was very comfortable and off the beaten path...exactly what I was looking for. They also left some breakfast snacks and some excellent coffee. Thanks much!
This was our second time staying at the Starr Hill apartment. It was another lovely, relaxing stay. Lou and Dave are both friendly and generous folks, hopefully we can come again next year!

We had a great stay at Dave and Lou's place. We really appreciated the special touches like fresh OJ waiting for us in the fridge, and a really well appointed little kitchen despite its size - and a table for two with a view across to the valleys and mountains of Douglas Island. The trundle beds worked just fine if you're a twosome but not a couple - you've got enough room to spread out the beds and not be waking each other up.
If you haven't been to Juneau before, Starr Hill is a great historic neighborhood filled with the kind of homes that are really unique to Juneau. Dave was attentive to all our needs and questions. The hike to downtown Juneau or back up the hill is only about five minutes. Definitely a great spot to stay. Thanks Dave and Lou!
