Located in the historic center of Venice, at the end of the Strada Nuova, at number No. 5639 of the Cannaregio district, in the Campiello del Bianco Lion, the B & B CA 'GIORGIO is a completely reformed space with rooms equipped with every comfort with TV, air conditioning, small safe, radio alarm clock. Each room, for one, two, three people, is equipped with exclusive own bathroom with shower, hair dryer and linen included.
The B & B, located in a portion of the Palazzo Falier, is surrounded by numerous, very old and famous venetian palaces, built in the XII century around Rialto, in the period it reached the maximum dimension.
Noteworthy, even in critical conditions side of abandonment, is the original Palazzo Ca 'da Mosto, one of the oldest and prestigious building of the city, which lies in the Campiello del Leon Bianco, just in front of the B & B Ca' Giorgio.
In a few minutes walk from Ca 'Giorgio, you can reach both the Rialto Bridge either Ca' d'Oro, and Piazza San Marco, or the Malibran Theater, which stands on the ruins of the Marco Polo's house, and the Gran Teatro la Fenice. Also, in a few minutes, you can reach the Fondamente Nuove, point of embarkation for the interesting islands of the lagoon, such as Murano, Burano, Torcello.
Its happy position in the historic center of Venice, makes Ca' Giorgio a perfect location for visitors who want to know not only the city but live with, even if for a few days, the true spirit of the "Venetian".
Simply put, I wasn't happy because we were approved to stay at one place, booked the reservation and were not told it was not available until we had already arrived. This put us in a bind because we didn't have the time necessary to find a different bed and breakfast of equivalent quality and price. We ended up staying at a lower quality place for the same price as Ca Giorgio. Not cool.
So, even if the calendar says its available, and Guillaume gives you a pre-approval to stay there, there's a risk that the place might not be available, and you might end up in a different, lower quality location. Be warned.
Poor communication, or bait and switch? Here are the details of our stay, and you can decide.
I contacted Guillaume to see if Ca Giorgio B&B was available, and received a pre-approval to stay. So, I booked the place. Then, I received two more messages: "hello! other place available, please let me know your arrival details asap." and from AIrbnb: "The host would like to change your reservation details," but, I liked the look of Ca Giorgio, so I declined the request to change reservations. I didn't receive any messages from Giullaume stating that Ca Giorgio was not available, after I declined the request to change the reservation. Keep in mind all of this happened on the same day - the reservation was in the morning, and we were going to check in late afternoon. We booked train tickets and were on our way, excited for our stay in Venice. However, when we arrived in Venice, and I called Guillaume, he told me that I was to meet with his assistant who would take us to Residenza Formosa. I explained to him that I did not want to stay at a different location, and had declined the request to change our reservation. He said that that Ca Giorgio B&B was actually not available, and that my wife and I would have to stay at Rezidenza Formosa, and he was getting on a flight to go somewhere, and left us without a way to contact him. It was late in the day by the time we arrived in Venice, and without much time remaining, we were stuck with staying at a place we didn't want. The Rezidenza Formosa is not a B&B, so breakfast is not included. It does not have Air Conditioning. While we didn't get to see Ca Giorgio B&B, from the pictures posted by Guillaume, it appears to be much nicer.
The one positive we got out of this is that when we contacted Airbnb, they did everything in their power to resolve the situation. (Not so easy when a host gets on a plane and flys away.) Thanks Airbnb!
Dear James, I have to inform you again that in good faith i believed that your request for Ca Giorgio was denied and that you accepted the booking for Formosa, i talked then with airbnb and they explained to me my technical ignorance.
I do wish that this kind of mistake/misunderstanding does not happen again.
In the end you got a refund of 1 night, paid half from my side and half from airbnb.
Again, I do apologise, and i hope you did appreciate Residenza Formosa and our little city of Venezia.
