Interaction with Guests
I enjoy interacting with guests and I respect people's privacy. This home has a variety of room options available and as such, operates much like a traditional bed and breakfast with shared common spaces. There may be several guests at one time, providing an opportunity to meet a variety of people. The home is quite large with many beautiful spaces for all to enjoy on the main floor. Private bedrooms with either shared or private bath (master suite) are located on the 2nd floor. I ask that guests be respectful of each other at Dearing Mansion. Because of the historic nature of the home and the shared aspect, it is well suited for adults (older children may be considered).
The neighborhood is friendly and safe. There are beautiful parks and great trails nearby for walking and bicycling. Great coffee shops and bakeries are within walking or driving distance along with antique shops and other shopping 5-10 minutes away by car. Historic Summit Avenue as well as Grand Avenue, known for shopping, fine restaurants and eateries, are just 5 minutes by car. I am happy to provide restaurant and entertainment recommendations. Also close to Xcel Energy Center, Fitzgerald Theatre, local colleges and universities including: Macalester, St. Thomas, St. Kates. Come visit and enjoy. And like many of our guests, come back again!
Downtown is just a 5 minute drive across the Mississippi River. City bus a block away.
Our trip to the Dearing Mansion was a welcome retreat from a busy and joyful family event. This historical home was well kept, warm and welcoming. Our host Scott made sure that we were well cared for and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the personal tour of the mansion and loved hearing about the history of the home. The mansion is an easy drive from the airport or to downtown St. Paul. The view of St. Paul from the back porch is perfect - our only regret was that we didn't have a chance to sip a glass of wine and savor the view....there is always next time!
We just had a second stay at Scott's Dearing Mansion this week. This time we stayed in the Master Suite which was more expensive but we had a special guest with us who needed the extra bed that was in the suite's adjoining room. A former foreign exchange student from Sweden who lived with us for a year about 15 years ago was attending a conference in California and used a 24 hour stopover to visit with us. We arranged the room with Scott and had a wonderful reunion with our Swedish friend. He loved the mansion and all the decor. Scott was most accommodating and he joined in some of our lengthy talks.
The entire house is wonderful. Scott gave us a grand tour of his elegant mansion. Breakfast is self serve but Scott's pantry and fridge were both well stocked with plenty to eat. My wife again enjoyed playing the piano. The bathroom in the master suite was terrific and complete with a warm floor, a double shower, and plenty of towels.
It was our second stay at the mansion and I can predict that we will be staying again when we are in the Twin Cities for a visit. This is one terrific house and you can enjoy just wandering through the building. While walking through the mansion I noticed things I had missed the first time.
Scott has an amazing home. My sister and I stayed 5 days in the second floor suite, 2 bedrooms and a private bath. Very clean and had everything we could wish (website hidden) Paul had some very hot weather but the air conditioner in our room made us feel very comfortable. Lovely view of St Paul from the super well appointed kitchen and back Deck. We only saw Scott our last day, really nice guy, his friends Lisa and Sol let us in and checked up on us. Scott has remolded this beautiful mansion and we can not wait to stay here again. We felt so at home. Do not hesitate to stay here, you will love it.
Had a great stay. Loved sitting on the back deck with a wonderful view of the city. Scott was very accommodating. It was fun to learn about the house which is beautifully acquainted and he was a good resource for restaurant recommendations. My girlfriend and I rented the master suite which was perfect for the two of us so we each had a unique room at a great value. The bathroom/shower were fabulous. I highly recommend it.

About the Host, Scott
I am a residential remodeling contractor specializing in older homes. I live in this home part time with my 19 year old son until late August. My 21 year old other son is back from college for the summer also living with me part time. You may or may not see them.
I love sharing my historic home with guests either during gala events or for a cup of coffee or tea in the kitchen or living room in front of a fire.
The house is truly a treasure. It is one of the most unique homes in St. Paul. The back deck has wonderful views of St. Paul which is a 5 minute drive from Downtown St. Paul. In my spare time I love to travel, sea kayak, and lindyhop swing dance. I'm always game for a canoe trip, a great single malt scotch, a Broadway show, a home improvement project around the house involving hanging any kind of art or a good conversation. As a guest you will be welcomed, given the tour and assisted in any way I can.
Photos of bedroom coming soon.
