Enjoy this rustic woodland retreat in complete comfort! Whether you're planning a special occasion, a hunting trip, or a weekend getaway, we can accommodate you. The lodge is private and remotely located, yet easily accessible from Interstate 10.

The Space

This secluded, fully furnished 5,000 square foot hunting and fishing lodge is truly a Sportsman's Paradise! Explore the Atchafalaya River and experience Cajun culture. Take a ride up the river on the party barge, and return to the lodge for a dip in the hot tub. Kick back, relax and enjoy Cajun Country!

The lodge sits on three wooded acres on the bank of the Atchafalaya River near the town of Butte LaRose, Louisiana. Conveniently located just two and a half miles from I-10. Experience the best of Cajun culture: its creole cuisine and zydeco music. Enjoy outdoor activities year-round including hunting, fishing, wetland tours, water sports, paddling, birding, and a variety of food and music festivals (see Local Festivals below).

The two story lodge accommodates 18+ guests including three beds, four air beds, a sleeper sofa and two sofas. The lodge has two separate living quarters each with its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area. This listing includes both living quarters. You will not share the lodge with any other guests. There is a king bed, queen bed, futon and four queen airbeds, and the sofas can sleep four additional guests. There is plenty of room inside for sleeping bags, or you can even pitch tents outside.

Downstairs there is a kitchen, bedroom, a spacious living room with a TV, and a large covered deck. Upstairs features a kitchen, bedroom, living room with TV, and a bright and airy sunroom with a hot tub, TV, wet bar and a wrap-around arbor overlooking the river.

The clubhouse is equipped with a half bathroom, wet bar, full-size refrigerator, TV, gas grill, wood-burning fireplace and outdoor fire pit. There is also a propane burner and stockpot with boil basket for crawfish, shrimp and crab boils.

A riverside gazebo houses a charcoal barbecue pit and a sink for cleaning fish caught on the river. A large carport can accommodate boats or even a RV. The property has a paved boat launch frequently used by hunting and fishing friends and family. The fishing pier leads to a covered boat dock on the river where you will find the party barge. The party barge is available for an additional fee of $150 per day plus the cost of fuel (see The Party Barge below). Alternately you may bring your own boats or water crafts.

The neighborhood is comprised mostly of privately owned camps enjoyed by their owners on weekends. The area is heavily forested and remote, but a well-maintained gravel road provides access to the property.

C&D Grocery is a deli, gas station and convenience store located 3 miles South of the lodge near the Butte LaRose exit. There you will find bread, milk, beer, fishing bait, hamburgers, po-boys and other supplies. The local watering hole, Kate's, is 5 miles away. A grocery store and authentic Cajun restaurants can be found 10 minutes away in Henderson. Live Cajun music and dancing can be found within 20 minutes. Many more restaurants, antiques shops and a Walmart are 15 minutes away in Breaux Bridge, the "Crawfish Capitol of the World." Lafayette is a larger city 25 minutes away where you will find more restaurants, museums, the Mall of Acadiana and also Festival International de Louisiane - a free music festival featuring artists from all over the world. Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capitol city, is 30 minutes from the lodge, and New Orleans is a one and a half hour drive. Please see our Guidebook for local places of interest.

For hunters the nearby woods is home to deer, rabbit, squirrel, duck, dove and turkey. Fishermen will enjoy catching a variety of fish including Largemouth bass and Channel catfish. Please refer to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for hunting and fishing licenses and permits.

Live or boiled crawfish can be purchased from Crawfish Town USA, listed in the Guidebook. Crawfish season is from mid-November through mid-August, with the peak season in early March through mid-June.

The Neighborhood

Atchafalaya National Heritage Area:

Explore the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area: one of the most culturally rich and ecologically varied regions in the United States. Louisiana is known as the Sportsman’s Paradise. The Heritage Area offers choice sites for hunting, from American woodcock to alligator, and fresh and saltwater fishing, from crawfish to sea trout.

Hunting is a popular seasonal sport enjoyed by hunters on public lands. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) manages about 1.4 million acres of Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Refuges throughout the state, many of which are in the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area. These public lands consist of a wide variety of habitat types. LDWF manages these lands and organizes deer hunts with the goals of setting quality examples of Louisiana habitats; insuring viability of these lands' wildlife populations; and providing the opportunity for quality outdoor recreational (and commercial when compatible) experience.

In addition it is not uncommon for a family to have a hunting camp on privately-owned land or on land leased for that specific purpose. Turkey, migratory bird and waterfowl including snipe, woodcock, teal, dove, duck and geese are popular prey, as are resident game and animals such as quail, rabbit, squirrel and deer. Less traditional prey includes bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana), pig frogs (Rana grylio), alligator, Alligator snapping turtles, Diamondback terrapins and box turtles.

Getting around

ATVs, dirt bikes, boats or other recreational vehicles are popular modes of transportation in the neighborhood.

Other Things to Note

Upon arrival you will likely see several trucks with boat trailers parked around the perimeter of the property. These are friends of the lodge who use the boat launch for hunting and fishing excursions. Don't worry, they are not guests at the lodge, and they will not bother you.

  • We had a great time at the lodge! Michael was a very communicative host and our group greatly enjoyed cooking, swimming, and playing sports on the lawn. This is a perfect spot for groups (not a lot of privacy, but we really didn't need it), even those with kids.

  • The Lodge was spectacular! We had the best family vacation ever! Dealing with Michael was so easy. We will be back!

    June 2014
  • Michael was extremely professional and this location is ideal for a large group gathering if privacy among your guests isn't as important as places to be together and have a good time. It was really perfect for us! Crawfish boil set up was ready to roll, the boat was a heck of a good time, and those wrap around porches hosted some very fine live Cajun music at dusk. Couldn't have asked for more.

  • This place is so beautiful. Very easy in and out check in process. Can't wait to come back and visit again! Super easy to find from New Orleans. The river couldn't be better.

    May 2014
  • The place was everything that was advertised and Michael was very helpful. We had a little trouble finding the place because our map applications gave us the wrong location. Luckily a FedEx driver came along who knew where it was. Because we were working on a Habitat for Humanity housing project in Lafayette we didn't have a lot of time to (email hidden) and didn't use the boat as we had hoped. Nonetheless, the place was perfect for our group of 8 and gave us a great experience on the river. Thanks. Doug Stevenson

    Response from Michael:

Thank you for the positive review, Doug! I'm so happy to hear that you all enjoyed the lodge. The dishwasher has been fixed. The drunk woman, Christine, is an acquaintance of my father who was given permission to show the camp to prospective buyers. I hope she wasn't too disruptive. She is no longer allowed on the property. Again, thank you for your reservation, and we look forward to hosting you again!

  • What a perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! We could not have asked for a more peaceful setting to kick back with family for the long Easter weekend. There was ample room for the little ones to run around and much to our delight and theirs, a swing set! The adults enjoyed the swing on the lower deck looking out over the river. Literally any amenity needed was there. The lodge is large with plenty of room. We were delighted to meet the owner, a true southern gentleman with a story or two to share.

    April 2014
  • We spent an absolutely wonderful long weekend at the Atchafalaya River Lodge. As others have mentioned, the house is definitely bigger than it seems in pictures. We were also surprised by just how much space there is on the entire property. We really enjoyed using the huge riverfront grassy area for bocce ball, corn hole, boiling crawfish, and letting our dog explore. Michael was really responsive and helpful when we had questions. With two fully stocked kitchens, ample air mattresses/linens/towels, and tons of seating inside and throughout the upstairs and downstairs wrap around porches, we had more than enough space for 13 adults. Plus, there are very few waterfront properties that would also include an party barge and kayak, indoor hot tub, boat house with a grill in it, clubhouse with a separate kitchen/grill/dining space, old school playground equipment, fire pit and TVs with cable in nearly every room - wowzers! It was also incredibly easy to find/get to. We all agreed that we'd love to be able to come back!

  • The pictures of this property do it absolutely no justice. My family and I had an amazing time and hope to go back soon. Not to sound too cliche, but spending time here was a true revival of the soul.

    April 2014
  • The river lodge was a great time! Truly an amazing house with SO much space and so much to offer. Highlights were definitely the jacuzzi, the party barge, and the surrounding nature. Michael (email hidden) who was available to answer all of our questions over the phone. Would definitely recommend this as a weekend getaway!

    March 2014
  • The river lodge was simply amazing. It is the perfect house for a family trip or weekend getaway with a group of friends. We will be back for sure.
