The lodge has two separate living quarters each with its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area. This listing includes both living quarters. You will not share the lodge with any other guests. There is a king bed, queen bed, futon and four queen airbeds, and the sofas can sleep four additional guests. The clubhouse is equipped with a half bathroom, wet bar, full-size refrigerator, TV, gas grill, wood-burning fireplace and outdoor fire pit. There is also a propane burner and stockpot with boil basket for crawfish, shrimp and crab boils.
A riverside gazebo houses a charcoal barbecue pit and a sink for cleaning fish caught on the river. A large carport can accommodate boats or even a RV. The property has a paved boat launch frequently used by hunting and fishing friends and family. The fishing pier leads to a covered boat dock on the river where you will find the party barge. The barge is available for an additional fee of $250 per day (see The Party Barge below). Alternately you may bring your own boats or water crafts.
The neighborhood is comprised mostly of privately owned camps enjoyed by their owners on weekends. The area is heavily forested and remote, but a well-maintained gravel road provides access to the property.
C&D Grocery is a deli, gas station and convenience store located 3 miles South of the lodge near the Butte LaRose exit. There you will find bread, milk, beer, fishing bait, hamburgers, po-boys and other supplies. The local watering hole, Kate's, is 5 miles away. A grocery store and authentic Cajun restaurants can be found 10 minutes away in Henderson. Live Cajun music and dancing can be found within 20 minutes. Many more restaurants, antiques shops and a Walmart are 15 minutes away in Breaux Bridge, the Crawfish Capitol of the World. Lafayette is a larger city 25 minutes away where you will find more restaurants, museums, the Mall of Acadiana and also Festival International de Louisiane - a free music festival featuring artists from all over the world. Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capitol city, is 30 minutes from the lodge, and New Orleans is a one and a half hour drive. Please see our Guidebook for local places of interest.
For hunters the nearby woods is home to deer, rabbit, squirrel, duck, dove and turkey. Fishermen will enjoy catching a variety of fish including Largemouth bass and Channel catfish. Please refer to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for hunting and fishing licenses and permits.

Atchafalaya National Heritage Area:
Explore the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area: one of the most culturally rich and ecologically varied regions in the United States. Louisiana is known as the Sportsman’s Paradise. The Heritage Area offers choice sites for hunting, from American woodcock to alligator, and fresh and saltwater fishing, from crawfish to sea trout.
Hunting is a popular seasonal sport enjoyed by hunters on public lands. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) manages about 1.4 million acres of Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Refuges throughout the state, many of which are in the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area. These public lands consist of a wide variety of habitat types. LDWF manages these lands and organizes deer hunts with the goals of setting quality examples of Louisiana habitats; insuring viability of these lands' wildlife populations; and providing the opportunity for quality outdoor recreational (and commercial when compatible) experience.
In addition it is not uncommon for a family to have a hunting camp on privately-owned land or on land leased for that specific purpose. Turkey, migratory bird and waterfowl including snipe, woodcock, teal, dove, duck and geese are popular prey, as are resident game and animals such as quail, rabbit, squirrel and deer. Less traditional prey includes bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana), pig frogs (Rana grylio), alligator, Alligator snapping turtles, Diamondback terrapins and box turtles.
ATVs, dirt bikes, boats or other recreational vehicles are popular modes of transportation in the neighborhood.
Other Things to Note
Upon arrival you will likely see several trucks with boat trailers parked around the perimeter of the property. These are friends of the lodge who use the boat launch for hunting and fishing excursions. Don't worry, they are not guests at the lodge, and they will not bother you.

We had a great time at Michael's place. It was an awesome weekend getaway. The master bedroom was especially comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to bbq, make smores and make drinks. Michael was easily reachable when we had questions and was an excellent host. Highly recommended!
The Atchafalaya River Lodge is nestled in a very beautiful and relaxing area. It was the perfect getaway location - with the friendliest people at the Atchafalaya Visitors Center! We were able to navigate to visit other places thanks to Michael who left a nice little book with nearby places for quick groceries, etc. While not all the amenities were working while we were there, we had a wonderful family get together for the week. Thank you for your hospitality.
Really convenient location. House was clean and host was welcoming and easy to get a hold of. Perfect for a large group, there was plenty of room for all of us to spread out. Boat was great add-on and was a fun way to explore the area. House is well equipped and stocked with everything you need for a great weekend!
Great host. Easily contactable and what a location! Beautiful stunning property that will give us lasting memories from our special trip.
This was the perfect weekend getaway. From the little added details to the great views from every window. Even though it rained most of the time, there was plenty of things to do inside. Everyone had their own space and the hot tub was perfect. We already are planning another trip. Also any questions we had were a text away. Michael was a great host.
the property was beautiful and spacious and was perfect for a weekend get together. my only advice is to bring aux cables or your own Bluetooth speaker for music. the back porch is incredible and the pictures don't do it justice.
Michael was great and very helpful before we got there and during. The place is perfect for a large group looking for a unique Cajun country experience.
About the Host, Michael
I'm a house flipper and graphic designer. I'm originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, but currently living in New Orleans. I enjoy exercising, being outdoors, cooking, and drinking cheap red wine. Some day I plan to live off grid on a beach, grow a vegetable garden and raise chickens.
I will do my best to make sure your stay is a pleasant one!
