About this listing
My Chez Marilyn is a 19th century stone cottage that has been totally renovated to a charming French chambre d'hote, where you can experience the way of life in a typical French village 5mins from Mont St Michel in Normandy France.
I am an Australian woman who has been living in France for almost 7 years.
You will have a private guest room and ensuite bathroom with a shower, tea and coffee making facilities. Suitable for one couple. No other rooms available. Not suitable for children.
Enjoy a French breakfast in the garden on a summer morning or in winter by the open fire. Parking available on my quiet village street, it is safe and secure around here. Great regional cuisine restaurants closeby.
Cycle or stroll around the country lanes to discover the historic region or explore the local area of lower Normandy and the Brittany coast, Mont St Michel, Saint Malo, Cancale or the Normandy Beaches are a short journey away.
Ardevon and its heritage listed Priory was first settled around the 11th century shortly after Mont St Michel.
Weekly local street markets, country fairs and antique markets abound throughout the year.
My cottage is on one of the signposted routes of the pilgrimage walking trails to "Camino de Santiago" and close to many WW2 memorial sites.
Private tours to the local attractions can be arranged. Pick up and drop off from Pontorson train station or the (email hidden) Michel is 15euros return (30euros in a taxi each way) Free wifi and cycles available.
I look forward to sharing this adventure with you.
English and French spoken.
I will send details of directions usually a week or two before your arrival. You will need to email me when you know your approximate arrival time and text me one hour before because I may be out enjoying the region. :-)
My village is a quiet typical French village just 6kms from Pontorson or 3 Kms from Beauvoir where there are many restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a village market every Wednesday morning to buy up some local fruit, vegetables or local fish and cheeses.
I also have another house on airbnb in Fontenay, near St Hillaire du Harcouet and. Mortain for stays longer than a week, all year round. Ideal to use as a base to explore Paris, the Loire valley and the Normandy/Brittany coastline.
You really do need to have a car if you want to stay more than one night and explore this beautiful region. Dinan, St Malo, Cancale etc.
There is limited public transport (particularly in winter) between villages and towns. I always suggest Autoeurop to book a car, it's often cheaper than trains and the roads are not so busy and wonderful motorways.
Other Things to Note
Please tell me in advance if you have any allergies eg, celiac or nuts.
To enjoy themselves but to respect other guests.
Marilyn is a gem. Even though she was sick from some food poisoning she made me feel welcomed and extended herself most graciously. I felt right at home.
This is a true B&B, not to far from Mon St. Michel.
Super sweet and lovely to stay in .
When we arrived at Chez Marilyn, we knew this would be a great experience! We had been traveling for a few weeks and this was definitely the best experience we had. Marilyn was kind, giving, helpful and knowledgeable. She suggested sights to see, places to eat, and provided us with the most wonderful breakfast spread each morning. She truly made us feel like special guests. We would absolutely stay with Marilyn again and again and would recommend Chez Marilyn to anyone!
Marilyn is a wonderful host. The bed and breakfast she constructed from the ruins of an old stone cottage couldn't be more charming. She generously extended herself to help us get around as we did not understand the necessity of having a car. Although it is possible to take the bikes to the enchanting Mont St. Michael, you will need a car to get from the train station to the bnb and to catch the ferry from St Malo. Public transit is very limited in the region for sightseeing purposes, as well. Yet, this part of France is not to be missed, and Marilyn is a helpful guide who provides books about D Day for those interested in that part of our history, as well as good recommendations about where to eat. She was willing to pick us up past her bedtime, insisting that we see Mt. Saint Michael at night, when it is most beautiful. Thank you Marilyn. We can't wait to come back. ..next time with a car! Janis and Nancy
Marilyn was caring and made us feel at home. Her Chez Marilyn was wonderful, full of french charm. The place is in a quiet location, yet close enough to Mont Saint Michel. The room is exactly as shown in the picture and very clean. Marilyn gave us useful tips on the parking and the local restaurants and specialties, which was not disappointed. Thank you very much, Marilyn.
Marilyn made us feel very welcomed in her place.
As seen on the pictures, the whole house is charming and very comfortable.
The breakfast was great and copious.
I highly recommend this place to any future guests.
Literally the best, most kind host ever. Words cannot describe how wonderful Marilyn is, you must meet her!!
Marilyn picked my mom and I up from the train station on time and was so thoughtful in letting us stop at the grocery store right away. We spent the evening with her: she introduced us to her preferred restaurant nearby and she gave us a tour of Mont St. Michel that night. I had no idea how cold that area could become, and Marilyn graciously lent me a coat and gave me some tights that she had just bought for warmth.
Breakfast was delicious and Marilyn was generous in making a few coffees for us before we headed back to Mont St. Michel!
My mom and I missed the train that we were supposed to catch later that day to Lisieux and there were no more trains later that day. We were on a tight schedule because we had already bought other train tickets for the rest of our stay in France. We called Marilyn--she came to the train station and DROVE US TO LISIEUX--A TWO HOUR DRIVE each way!!
Marilyn is an angel. She is beautiful, inside and out. The kindest, sweetest person--funny, intelligent, and a great conversationalist! She is absolutely someone to meet. After spending less than two days together, my mom and I felt like she was family!!
Her creativity can be seen by her home; it is gorgeous and we had a really comfortable stay there. Mont St. Michel is so memorable, for not only our stay there, but for meeting Marilyn, and receiving an unbeatable experience of compassion, empathy, kindness, and generosity.
Marilyn was a great host, super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in her charming cottage. It is well located for close access to Mont St. Michel.

About the Host, Marilyn
I am a happy person living in rural France which I love. I came here 7 years ago to following my dream to live in France. My French cottage is a completely renovated 19th century old stone house in the Baie of Mont St Michel and another gite available for summer rental in Fontenay in a 300yo stone cottage.
I also have my Melbourne apartment in the CBD opposite the MCG which I have available for people coming to stay a short time in Melbourne or relocating for work. I love and enjoy both locations for the history and above all the people and the different lifestyles. I hope you enjoy your stay at one of my properties.
My life's motto?....I have many but most of all I follow this one:
Begin with what you are in no doubt of ... what makes you happy. Take the time to feel secure in your choices and the rest will follow.
