Private room with new queen size bed looking out onto majestic trees. Our house is at the end of quiet Happy Lane (really!). We are about 2 miles from the historic Sonoma Plaza and within minutes of wineries and hiking and biking trails. Walking distance to restaurants, movie theaters, and the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa.
We don't live in a mansion, just a comfortable, cozy, clean home surrounded by many beautiful trees. The bedroom looks out onto majestic oak and cottonwood trees and is directly across from the guest bathroom, which would normally not be shared with anyone else. The room has a flat screen TV on which you can watch Netflix, Hulu Plus and a variety of other channels. You can also listen to Pandora and other music channels.
You are free to use the kitchen, living room and dining area and furnished outdoor patio and yard.
We really enjoy meeting new people and will be happy to offer you a glass of wine or iced tea and chat with you, but we are happy to give you as much privacy and time alone as you would like. We are very familiar with the attractions of the Sonoma Valley, as well as the entire Bay Area, and enjoy sharing our knowledge. John was previously a tour guide in the wine country and the San Francisco area, so he can point you in the right direction.
It's a short bike ride or 5 minute drive to the center of Sonoma. We have bikes that you can use if you'd like. Buses to Petaluma and Santa Rosa are within walking distance.
We provide you with coffee, tea and pastries in the morning.
Wonderful welcome and very pleasant stay with John and Merian - so easy to stay with them.
Thanks to the amazing hospitality of John and Merian, we had a fantastic time in Sonoma. Their home is comfy and inviting -- great bed -- and clean as a whistle. But the best part about staying there was the feeling we were honored guests instead of just renters. That is rare, and if you are looking for an experience rather than just a room, this is the place to stay. They actually took the time to show us around and take us wine tasting, and had a bottle of wine ready to share when we arrived. Thanks Merian and John!
It was a short one-night stay for me but the hosts were so accommodating with my conference schedule at the nearby Fairmont (5-minute walk). Definitely a cozy home, felt like I was driving cross country and staying with relatives. Clean plush towels and a really comfy bed allowed me to r&r during my stay.
I will be back soon and hopefully get to really enjoy the Sonoma vibe, food and wine!
Wonderful experience at John and Merian home. Interesting discussions and warmful welcoming with a big breakfast.
I browsed the Airbnb options in Sonoma back in December in search of a great place to take my boyfriend as a Christmas present. I picked Happy Lane because of the location, pictures and reviews. Due to all kinds of schedule craziness and life changes, we were not able to visit until Valentine's Day weekend. John and Merian stayed in communication with me to make sure that our stay was everything we wanted it to be and more. They were understanding and accommodating as we changed our plans more than once (changing our dates of stay and other details of the trip). We arrived after having hiked at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and in slight rain (after accidentally going to the wrong address), they greeted us to a warm and beautiful home with a glass of wine and delicious cheese plate. They made us feel right at home! We chatted in the living room and while we enjoyed the welcome treats and unwound. They provided everything we needed from freshly cleaned towels to toothpaste and restaurant recommendations to a comfy bed. The Roku in our room was great because we like to listen to music all the time! The house is very close to the restaurant and all the sights we had come to see. If I had to improve one thing, it would be the road leading to their house. It is in need of some maintenance. John and Merian are super sweet people and fantastic hosts! They were the right match for our quick trip!
My boyfriend and I stayed with John and Merian for an evening in February. They were so warm and welcoming (as was their gorgeous dog Dhurma) - it was lovely to sit and have a chat with them over local wine and cheese on arrival. The room was perfect - a great size with a charming view of the old oak tree in the garden, as promised. We had a fantastic night's sleep and woke up ready and raring to go and explore more of the beautiful Sonoma area. Thank you John and Merian for your fantastic hospitality. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area...there's so much more to see :)
Me and my girlfriend had a great time staying with John and Merian. Seriously, the warm welcome with cheese and wine, the cozy bedroom with our own bathroom, the tasty breakfasts and the witty conversations with a smart and funny couple were the best surprise we had on our weekend in Sonoma. The location is great, a quick 5min from the main plaza and little more to all the local wineries. John will give you all the advice regarding where to go for wine tastings – as a prior tour guide he knows what’s best – and Merian will know the nice, cozy restaurants that will make your weekend dinners that much better. They were friendly, entertaining and very helpful, and at the same time giving us space or accommodating whatever needs we had. Couldn’t be more satisfied with our weekend at John and Merian’s house.
John and Merian have been very welcoming (they were even nice enough to offer me a late dinner since I didn't take time to have dinner on the way).
The house and the room are exactly as described.
John and Merian were lovely - very accommodating. They weren't home when we arrived, and checked in with us via text. The next day they texted us some restaurant recommendations after we chatted about our dinner plans in the morning. There are a lot of nice touches in the room, like luggage racks and lots of material about Sonoma. The house is on the north/ west side of town, but if you have a car everything is accessible.
Friendly, but not overly so.
Quiet. Clean. Comfortable. Good location: 1/2 mile walk to Mary's Pizza Shack.
