Our water mill built in 1735 and recently renovated is in the heart of the Loire Valley overlooking beautiful forest and peaceful Indre river; the region referred to as the Cradle of the French Language, and the Garden of France.
Notable for its historic towns, architecture and wines, the valley has been inhabited since the Middle Palaeolithic period. In 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites.
A bike ride away from Chateau de Cande where on 3 June 1937 the castle was the venue for the marriage between the Duke of Windsor, the former King Edward VIII, and the American Wallis Simpson. It is now open to public and strolling in the park is a delight .
We are also close to Saché ( musée of French writer Balzac, and french home of American sculptor Calder ), Azay le Rideau ( one of the earliest Renaissance chateaux ), Villandry gardens ( The Chateau of Villandry is the last of the great chateaux of the Loire built during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley ), Ussé (the castle of sleeping beauty ).
Just across the bridge from our mill, are 2 restaurants, newsagent, bakery, beauty salon, church, public library as well as a bus stop for direct transportation to Tours or Sache and to the local train station from where you will be reaching either downtown Tours (10 mn journey) or Poitiers if you are heading south.
A little further down the road, is a pizzeria, a new spa complex with indoor swimming pool, supermarkets, gas station, post office and more.

Lovely apartment and setting. enjoyed the intimate setting. perfect for couple or two. David and Lise went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. even visited on Christmas Day to wish us a happy holiday. Highly recommended.
This is a very well placed property for exploring the Loire Valley. David was very accommodating and gave some excellent tips for the region. There are many day trips to be done from this central location.
We stayed in Monts for 5 nights on our honeymoon and we almost wished we have planned nothing else (and we spend 5 nights in Paris)! Lise and David were wonderful to deal with from start to finish and even had some wonderful honeymoon themed treats for us upon arrival. After an incredibly thorough orientation by Lise we were left on our own. A wonderfully cozy set up awaited us with a selling feature we had no idea about until we went to bed the first night. This is an old mill that the water still runs under underneath (Lise gave us a history lesson and they still have to watch the water levels to control the water going downstream) and If you have ever slept with natural water flows just outside your window, you know that this leads to the best sleep you will ever have. There are huge windows that open wide to get a view of the Indre river and allow the relaxing sounds of the river flow into your bedroom and dining room. We were fully relaxed and our cares melted away within minutes. The town of Monts is a beautiful mix of old and new. Make sure you go to market Saturday morning and take a walk along the river. There are bikes at your disposal and kayaks/canoes for the river (HUGE BONUS). We took the bikes out as the Loire is famous for it biking at hit two Chateaus in a day via bike (after Lise's recommendation). It was a long bike ride (30 ish km) but so worth it. Riding through rows of wine and sunflowers along with small villages full of people who all say "bonjour" as you pedal by. This really is a special part of the world. If you are in the area stay here! The place is cozy and so relaxing! It's an old building so don't expect hot tubs and chefs kitchens, but do expect to have access to good REAL food and a relaxing stay. For dinner, go to the Carousel de Saveurs ( I think that's the name-Lise would be able to tell you for sure). Coming from someone in the industry, this food is excellent and well made-and the dessert is to die for. My wife will not stop talking about it. We recommend Lise and David's place for anyone staying in the area. We saw all the great Chateaus- Clos Luce/Amboise, Chenonceau, Villandy...etc, all within a 45 minute drive. We will be back and will hope to stay with Lise and David again...such nice and professional hosts!
Lies was a wonderful source of information and very welcoming. A special place to stay in a very beautiful part of France
We had a great time at the Moulin de Monts. Lise was a very kind host, full of information and tips. The environment is great, there is so much to see and do: the great and small chateaus, the beautiful villages, the woods and parcs. And after each sightseeing day we came back to the mill and enjoyed the quiet and comfortable apartment and the profound pleasure of looking out over the Indre streaming outside our window.
Lise and David made us feel extremely welcome and were a wealth of information on the local area.
Fantastic location, beautiful countryside and plenty to do. Lise and David were extremely hospitable and friendly. Lise advised us on where to go and what to do which was really useful. The hotel restaurant just a few minutes walk away was brilliant! It was a superb vacation and I would recommend it to (website hidden) you really do need a car to get about.
Le Moulin des Monts was a great find! From the moment we arrived we were so delighted with the helpful assistance from our hosts David and Lise. From a thorough look at the Gite and its facilities, a targeted selection of brochures and maps with things for us to see and do - discussed with us in detail, local products for us in the kitchen, and the interaction with their family throughout the week including a trip to Savonnieres to see the Tour de France peloton pass by, we had a wonderful week experiencing the Loire valley. So much to see and do in this area... so pretty and lush. The mill is situated on the L'Indre river and the sound of water flowing was our backdrop for the hot weather. The Gite is in an 18th century building, so it is not a modern apartment, but the rooms are a good size, they look out of large windows onto the river, and the smallish kitchen and bathroom are more than adequate for your needs. More significant for us was the little things... toys and books for daughter, guinea pigs to feed and watch, and Tito the cat to pat and watch stalking bugs and other garden inhabitants! Nice restaurants in the town of Monts and further afield, with supermarkets and bakeries all within easy access. A recommended choice for this area.
This was a lovely and very comfortable stay for my family of five. Lise and David were extremely welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed, including many maps and brochures for the area. There's a supermarket and boulangerie within easy driving distance, as well as a few good restaurants easy to walk to, and the chateaux were also a very easy drive. The only drawback was how hard it was to drag ourselves away from the relaxing sound of the river in order to visit them! We couldn't have asked for a nicer stay.
David and Lise gave us a warm welcome to the Mill. It was a lovely and relaxing spot and unique to our travel experiences. The location was a perfect base for explorng Tours and the chateaux/historic towns/vinyards of the Loire Valley. Our arrival coincided with the summer solstice celebration with music and wine and cheese tasting in the backyard! We have fond memories of our stay in the Mill and in the region, and especially appreciated the hospitality and attentiveness our hosts provided.
