Comfortable room in older Victorian Style house on a quiet tree-lined street in the trendy North End of Halifax. Close to cafes and parks, adjacent to the Halifax commons, 15 minute walk to downtown. Beautiful Private Backyard. Parking Available.
This is a beautiful, large room in a classic Victorian home, centrally located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This room features a comfortable queen sized bed with fresh bedding, shelf and desk space. It has a large, sunny window overlooking the street.
This is one of two rooms in the house, which are side by side. Each room can accommodate two people and makes this an ideal spot for families or groups who want two rooms.
Location is one of the many highlight of this accommodation, as you are within walking distance to the heart of downtown and there is easy access to public transit.
In addition to your room, the house features an open concept living room and a large kitchen, where coffee/tea is available. The kitchen opens onto a large private yard with a sunny deck, the ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee.
People should keep in mind that this is an Older house, it isnt perfect, (taps backwards, upside-down light switches) but it is still a lovely home, and we hope guests will appreciate it for what it is, with all its quirks.
Other than the rooms, the rest of the house is Common Space. Feel free to use the kitchen and fridge for storing food and/or cooking. There will be kitchen ware available for use.
The washing machine is located in the basement and is free for guest to use. There is no dryer, but we do have a drying rack for hang drying.
There are other rooms in the house that are rented, and so there will be others sharing the common space.
Interaction with Guests
My daughter Tessa will be looking after guests during their stay. She will be there to welcome guests upon arrival and will also stop in from time to time to guarantee cleanliness and ensure that you enjoy your stay.
Woodill is just one block long and while peaceful, is virtually in the centre of Halifax. Our street is quiet but is just steps away from the vibrant Agricola St. The Halifax Commons is a 2 minute walk away, The Citadel 5 minutes past that. The beautiful public gardens are a must see, and the boardwalk is perfect for an afternoon stroll. Almost anything that you would like to experience in Halifax is within walking distance of this location.
Public transit is available, with multiple bus stops near by. If you take a walk down to the waterfront, you can also take a trip over to Dartmouth on the harbour ferry.
All public transport within the city is only $2.50 (including the ferry)
The airport is a 20 min drive away and there is public transportation available from the airport as well.
Other Things to Note
We have one parking spot available next to the house, although it is a small spot, and so large vehicles may not fit. If this is the case, we have a parking pass available that allows you to park on the street - although we ask that you leave a $20 deposit to ensure you remember to give it back at the end of your stay.
I do stop into the house occasionally, and sometimes bring my dog, Smokie, with me. He is a beautiful, calm, friendly dog and loves people. If you have any issues with dogs, (fear/allergies) please let me know.
Pets are generally not allowed, but special exceptions may be made. If are traveling with a pet and would like to inquire about this accommodation, please include your pets details in your stay request.
There is no smoking in the house but guest may smoke outside or in the backyard. Please make sure not to litter.
We are happy to have guests use the kitchen for cooking or storing food, and feel free to use the kitchen ware, but please make sure to clean up after yourself, as there may be other guests staying in the house at the same time.
The room itself was nice. Tessa was super friendly. The bathroom and the rest of the house were a little rough but overall I was happy, especially considering the price. I would stay again.
I enjoyed my stay in the Lovely room. The rooms are as advertised. Tessa was in the process of repainting the bathroom so it will be even nicer. The neighborhood was nice and the location close to my destination.
Tessa was super friendly, and was very helpful in helping me get to my dinner place, and suggesting bus routes to the airport. She was easily reached by phone, and came to the house very promptly when needed.
I very much enjoyed the bed -- it's not common to sleep on a mattress with sufficient lumbar support!
The room I was in was on the colder side, but nothing that couldn't be solved with a blanket!
The house had the basic amenities, and was very close to the bus stop (approx 5 min walk). Overall, I had a positive experience staying here!
Tessa and her dad are amazing hosts. Very sweet, helpful and hospitable. The room is comfortable and very roomy. Definitely would recommend!
On a side note, they do have a dog. If you're not a pet-person, you wouldn't even know that he's there but if you have a soft spot for animals then this little guy will steal your heart. Tessa and her dad made the stay awesome but their dog made it feel so much like home that now this will be the only place I stay while in Halifax
Tessa was there to meet me at our meeting time, see gave a nice tour of the house, which is really nice. The street is really quiet and it's easy to walk to downtown. She left lights on and I felt very comfortable. The room is creative, well maintained and has nice historical details. The bed was firm and comfortable. Heat was constant and warm. A really great place to spend a few days. I didn't use the kitchen but it is well equiped and clean, as was the bathroom.
I stayed in the Lovely Room for a week. The house is in a convenient and central location with restaurants, bars, and small stores in every direction. Tessa was very welcoming and quick to reply to any messages I sent her. She was a fantastic host!

I am a young adult, living in Halifax. These are my fathers properties but as he is away for most of the summer, I will be looking after the bookings with the help of other family members, including my brother, Robin.
