Nature Observatorio is a beautiful treehouse suspended 25 meters up on a tree in the middle of the jungle in the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge at the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. To arrive we will walk for about 45 minutes inside the forest from where we park the car. Observatorio has two bedrooms where can sleep up to 4 persons. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price as well as fruits, drinks and snacks. You can climb yourself up or you can be comfortable pulled up with an elevation system. Its a modern unique design, not a single nail is harming the tree. We use solar panels for leds lights, an eco toilet and shower with rain water.
This project is only for adventure and nature lovers.
If you don't want to spend the night there you can just visit it for a half or full day tour.
Enjoy wonderful nature hike through primary forest, exercise yourself climbing the tree with ropes, and get the fresh air from ocean and the incredible views of trees, animals and birds from the canopy.
Any question don't hesitate to ask!
Bring your hiking shoes, long pants ( trousers), and your cameras !
Before climbing you will get a short lesson on how to pull yourself up with the ropes!
It's lot of fun!
Staying at the tree house was an incredible and truly unique experience. It was amazing to be so high up in the forest with no one else around. We saw lots of monkeys playing on neighboring trees and so many other interesting animals. In addition to the wonders of the tree house, Peter was a wonderful host and touring the rainforest with him was a very special experience. We learned so much from Peter about different species and their interconnected roles in the forest, and he was a master of spotting animals so we got to see so many things. We spent time in other rainforests in Costa Rica and didn't see a fraction of the things we saw during our stay at the tree house. We've been back for 2 weeks now and we still think and talk about the tree house all the time. It was not only the best place we stayed in Costa Rica but also the best place we have ever stayed.
My boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Peter's amazing eco-treehouse during our stay in Costa Rica. We really felt he went above and beyond to make sure we had the most wonderful experience. First, he rented a car to pick us up at our lodge (thank you!) before hiking us through the beautiful national jungle forest to get to the Nature Observatorio. During the hike, he took his time pointing out and teaching us about different fauna and wildlife. Once we arrived, he took our dinner/breakfast requests (both were delicious!) before we hoisted ourselves 80 feet up to the top and were left alone for the remainder of the night until morning. I should mention that I am petrified of heights, but once I saw the incredible view over the next several hours, I knew I had made a great decision. :) Also worth noting is that pulling yourself up the tree is a workout. Expect that, but also enjoy it! It's part of the thrilling experience. We saw and heard so many different foreign creatures/sounds and felt like we were truly a part of the incredible nature surrounding us. It's really refreshing to know that people like Peter exist in this world who believe that experiencing nature in it's natural habitat should be something everyone can experience. Thank you, Peter, for this wonderful project and indescribable experience. To everyone else, do yourself a favor and stay here. You will not regret it.
This was such a special time for my family. Peter was great to tell us about the rainforest that his tree house is in. He pointed out the frogs trees and other beautiful elements of the rainforest. I am so glad that he and his guys helped us into the treehouse. The sounds were amazing in night. Saw toucans fly in and out. The setting is magnificent! This was a once in a lifetime experience for both myself and my family. Thank you for such a spectacular experience! We felt very safe and comfortable. No Mesquites and breeze was perfect for sleeping conditions.
This is a next-level treehouse. You hike 40 minutes into the jungle in rubber boots to belay yourself up a rope to the house in the middle of the canopy! Wildlife is RIGHT next to you. The coolest place we stayed in Costa Rica! The house is suspended with wires so it doesn't harm the tree! An architectural model!
There are no words to describe the experience at the treehouse. Starting with the hike through the jungle, Peter was incredibly attentive and just a great person all around. The climb up to the treehouse is fun, even for someone mildly afraid of heights. The view from the treehouse is like no other. You get the sounds of nature, a view of the ocean, and if you're quiet and observant, you'll see monkeys, birds, butterflies and more. It really is a full immersion in nature. It was one of the last nights of our honeymoon and we coulnd't have left happier. Dinner and breakfast are included - delivered to the treehouse. We had breakfast while watching monkeys play and eat in the trees. I highly recommend it, even if it's just for a day tour. We were there during 'dry' season but it rained at night. It wasn't an issue at all - you stay dry and cozy inside the treehouse. Thank you, Peter for a fantastic and wondeful experience we'll never forget.
We knew from the beginning of our trip that the treehouse was a special place. We were not disappointed in anyway, all of our exceptions were exceeded!! Peter met us and made us feel great right away, we felt brought into the community and welcomed into the heart of Manzanillo!
On the hike up to the treehouse Peter spotted monkeys, frogs, tracks and birds and he explained how every form of life is connected and vital to the healthily functioning of the rainforest eco-system.
The climb up to the treehouse was a great challenge that made us feel exhilarated! Once in the treehouse we had a front row 360 degree view into the canopy of the jungle.
Chestnut Toucans, Mealy Parrots, a Crested Guan (bird), Woodpecker and the Olingo (are neighbor aka cookie monster who lived above the treehouse) all made an appearance.
At night the insect world takes center stage in the soundscape and gives way to the birds and mammals again who chant there own sun salutations in the early morning light.
There was a rainstorm overnight that cooled us off nicely. When we awoke we had an auspicious visit from the reptile kingdom (an Eyelash Viper) We used the guide books Peter and Jason left for us to figure out how to treat the situation. We gave our new friend a wide berth until Peter arrived and shared his wisdom on how to treat the snake. Peter skillfully removed the snake (not before I took a lot of pictures for our photo album) It was actually pretty docile for a viper ;)
Jason and Peter were both wonderful and incredibly helpful. We wished we could have stayed longer it was a highlight of our whole trip to Costa Rica.
We would highly recommend a visit to the treehouse and would definitely come again or visit another treehouse that Peter builds in other areas.
I'm from Slovakia and l fall in love with the nature of this area where I design and build this suspended treehouse. I would like to make you feel in contact with the nature, animals, insects, birds, smells, colors, sounds, the jungle has so much to offer to our senses...
I live with my lovely wife Isabel and our sweet son Leon in this paradise which it is our home.
