Fairways Tower is located within the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) complex, right next door to Forbes Park, where some of the country's wealthiest families and prominent expatriates reside. (Average home prices in Forbes’ exclusive neighborhood and gated community run upwards of US$5M.) BGC, formerly the headquarters for the Philippine Army, is now a welcome combination of corporate offices, high-end residences and shopping malls, embassies, a world-class hospital, a science museum and a landscape strewn with contemporary Filipino art. The Tower is fronted by a dwarfish-sized Singapore Embassy and is a quick walk away from Burgos Circle, Manila’s newest dining hotspot literally dotted with quality international restaurants and lively entertainment. Also nearby are High Street (You’ll see contemporary local and world-renowned establishments in this area.), Market! Market! (a good market mix of everything you can possibly think of purchasing for souvenirs, food, provisions, etc.), and a host of other wonderful features.

Your suite is an oversized studio (41 square meters) unit that features Wifi access, a swimming pool and workout room on the top floor, incomparable views of the skyline, the Manila Golf Course and the American Memorial Cemetery. The unit is fully furnished with modern fixtures, tastefully decorated, and is situated on the 19th floor. Your usual features – kitchenette and appropriate utensils, bathroom, hot and cold shower, coffee brewer, microwave, stove, ceiling fans, dsl internet connection, fridge and contemporary TV with cable, are all there. It has a queen-sized bed, and a living room couch that pulls out as an extra bed. It’s an ideal residence for a single person, a couple or a small family. But, from our experience, it’s a perfect residence for a couple. Extra sheets and towels are provided for your use. Services include 24-hour concierge services, 24-hour security and contemporary elevators for the North Tower. The friendly people at the front desk can advice you on food, door-to-door laundry services and anything you’ll need. The unit also features an oversized storage area/cabinets. Outstanding location. Wonderful views. Quiet, private and secluded. A great place to relax and unwind. Manila (Aquino) International Airport is 10 to 15 minutes away on a good day. Traffic is a challenge in Manila most times, however. But you must already know this.

•We request that utilities be used in a reasonable manner. Lights, fans, stove, and air-conditioner should be turned off when not in use. Utility charges will be billed separately, based on your actual electrical consumption. There is an electric meter directly outside the unit that registers kWh usage and building administrators will record the meter readings immediately before your arrival and at the close of your stay. You will need to pay this utility charge (your utility use) before departure. Kevin will help you with this. Knowing the residents also serves to ensure your safety and to ensure that unwelcome wanderers are kept off the premises. Please respect this residence as it also serves as our home away from home. On average, electrical rates for reasonable; electrical use comes to the equivalent of under $50 for a 20-day stay. Your actual use determines the cost.

•Do keep the residence clean and make your stay a pleasant experience for all. Wash all cutlery and utensils after use. Throw out garbage in the garbage bin located a few steps outside your door (along the outside corridor).

•At the end of your stay you will need to pay the equivalent of $30 to Kevin for clean-up and washing (of towels, linens and sheets) fees.

•Laundry service is so reasonable in the area that we found no use for a washer/dryer. We’ve used the building's laundry service weekly or even bi-weekly (sometimes to clean our sheets and towels) and the laundry service delivers and picks up your items from your front door. No need to go anywhere to get clothes clean! Check with front desk.

•Swimming and gym use at the top floor are free for all residents and guests.

•Security is monitored very well and the residences are very safe. Everyone goes through the guards first, then through the front desk. You can ask the front desk for help flagging down a taxicab.

A secure wireless Internet connection is provided for free. No laptops are provided. You will need to bring your own.

•The offer of $52 per night is exclusive of utilities (See 3rd paragraph above.) and is for 2 people only. There is a sofa bed in the living room area that can be converted to a bed and this fits one adult (or two children) very well. No extra charge for other resident(s).

Victor Pineda is a retired public service executive who used to work with the City of Seattle and King County. Entrenched in the local community in the Pacific Northwest region, Vic also served in civic and voluntary causes, as recently as a mentor for a local public elementary school in the Western Washington area and leadership roles in Filipino-American affairs in the region. He founded the Filipino-American Civic Employees of Seattle (FACES), which continues to serve the interests of Filipino-Americans in the Seattle area. His earlier years were spent as a student at the Ateneo de Manila and as a long-time resident at Fort McKinley (now Fort Bonifacio/Bonifacio Global City) where his father served in the Philippine Armed Services. As a recent retiree, he spends his time with his family in the Seattle-Bellevue area in Washington State and often visits the Manila area for frequent reunions with classmates and friends, or just to relax and hang out.

While in Manila, he stays at one of two condominiums (this being one of them) in the Bonifacio Global City and has a vested interest in ensuring the respectability of the place, the maintenance, well-being and safety of his residences. Sustaining the quality of this residence is a paramount concern and we welcome visitors who share the same interest. The unit is administered and maintained by his nephew Kevin and when Vic or his wife is not in the Philippines, Kevin has administrative and maintenance rights over this condominium.
