I visited Dominical with a close friend and his family. the 3-bedroom villa ( of which there are 5, all in a row ) was beautifully built, well appointed, and very clean. The pool was a pleasure. I was visited by lizards frequently, and there were horses on the other side of the fence. The birdwatching from the backyard porch was also great, if that's your kind of thing.
Rosa, who is the local "fixer", can give you advice and hook up day trips. She got us a 5-hour fishing trip on a tiny boat for $25/person/hour. Her English is sketchy, so do your best to speak in Spanish as well. Make sure you ask for the TOTAL price of things, as we were caught off guard by the 'per hour' rate.
The two upstairs bedrooms are great, one has a bathroom ensuite, the other has a bathroom outside the door. the third bedroom is actually just a small room off the living room / kitchen with a sliding door. Since I was the fifth wheel with 2 other couples, I took that one. No drawers and a modest closet. I lived out of my suitcase anyway, so it was just fine. Beds were comfy, linens were clean.
The house did have WiFi but it was borderline un-usable. The connection would drop in and out infuriatingly, and I had to rely on my phone's 'net connection and link it to my laptop. I'm a remote work kind of guy, so this was a way bigger deal than it would be for others. This was really the only issue I had during my entire stay.
The houses are as advertised, a short walk to the beach and under an hour's drive from Quepos and Manuel Antonio ( the crown jewel of the country's beaches ).
The area is a lot more touristy than I had imagined, but that seems to be true of most of the area from Dominical up to Jaco. Of the places we visited, Dominical was the least touristy. Expect to pay "White People Prices" on almost everything. The days of a 3rd-world discount are long gone, as corroborated by some American expats I met. The local grocery store will deliver to you, but again, expect to pay urban American prices for your goods. They're well-stocked with booze, canned food, and produce. We spent about $250 on groceries for 5 people for 5 days, which is fine.
There is a cute open air bar down the road called Cocos Cafe, where the food is mediocre but the drinks are sugary and delicious (if a bit weak). If you're a drinker, get an extra shot in whatever you order.
Overall, I would gladly stay here again if I visit Dominical with a large group. It's definitely too big for a couple, but if you're 3 single people it might suit you just fine!
