The quiet gem for the ultimate break in Amsterdam

Planning a tourist trip, or a break in Amsterdam, to visit all the sites, the theaters, a show, the museums or indeed to go on a shopping spree?

Why not stay in the middle of a Unesco World Heritage site, with all main tourist attractions and special shops at walking distance.

While still being able to sleep in a quiet environment?

Rent our city center studio: “The Library”, a hidden gem on one of Amsterdam’s canals in the most prestigious part of the famous Canal area (Grachtengordel).

Your hosts are an international couple. We speak Dutch, English and German and even some rusty French.

Treat your loved one to a royal weekend break for € 105 a night in Europe's most exciting city, enjoy all the attractions and discover its secrets.

The apartment is located in a prestigious 17th century building in the center of the Canal Area and is at walking distance from all the main Amsterdam points of interest. A number of public parking garages are located close by.

The spacious studio (approx. 20 square meters) with its own private entrance has an en-suite shower room and toilet and gives access to an outside courtyard offering a view on the Achterhuis. And yes you are allowed to smoke there ;-). BUT NO SMOKING INSIDE THE STUDIO!
We have arranged for a small pantry outside "The Library", so you can make your own coffee and tea (for free). In case you prefer bottled water, soft-drinks, beer or wine you have access to a small fridge to cool them. A washer/dryer service is available for €7.50 per machine run).

The room is equipped with all the ‘necessary’ mod cons: Wifi Internet, cable television and access to a fine collection of books (it’s not called “The Library” for nothing ;-).

First and foremost we honor people’s privacy. On arrival we will invite you to a welcome drink and a small “get to know each other” chat (we are “people’s people”). We then will explain how everything works. After that we tend to leave you on your own. We believe that “The Library” and indeed our beloved city are now yours. Needless to say we are always available for questions, directions, tips or a little chat about your latest adventures in Amsterdam.

“The Library” is located in the center of the Canal Area and is AT WALKING DISTANCE from all the main Amsterdam points of interest, for example:

The Utrechtse Straat (shopping): 1 min,
The Rembrandt Square (bars, restaurants): 5 min,
Area for Arts and Antiques: 7 min,
The Music Theatre (Stopera): 8 min,
The Royal Theatre Carré: 8 min,

“The Library” is a 25-minute walk away from Amsterdam Central Station, which will take you past some famous landmarks (The Royal Palace and the Rembrandt Square). Alternatively you can travel by subway (metro): 13 minutes or tram: 16 minutes. From the library you can walk to any interesting Amsterdam landmark, but the city also has a sophisticated public transport system: subway, trams and buses, who generally run on schedule. The closest tram stop is at a 1-minute walk, the closest metro station (Waterloo Square) is a 9-minute walk.

Please feel free to ask for plates and/or cutlery, umbrellas or other things you miss. There is an additional plaid and duvet inside the cupbaord. If you put used glasses, cups etc. on the stairs, we will replace them by clean ones. There is a drying rack in the laundry room. You can use it there or in your room. Feel free to ask if you want to make use of our washing service. We do have to charge you for it (it takes quite a long time and we need to be supervising it). We will charge you EURO 7.50 per machine.

Do read our HOUSE MANUAL, to guarantee an optimum experience! ;-)

Your hosts have been living in Amsterdam for a long time, and we know about all the special “secret” places and shops. We have created an extensive personal guide of these locations with information why we think it would be worthwhile to visit these places as well as a map showing you how to get there. This guide is available on the table in “The Library” so you can plan your daily adventures. Next to that you will find some discount coupons for main attractions as well as a map of the city.

Also, we keep track of all the events in the city (including the dates and the location); you can see them at the end of the photo session, and we regularly update them. Do contact us for a special long stay rate.

First and foremost we would like you to enjoy yourselves (without disturbing others, of course), be amazed and pleasantly surprised, enjoy our loving city of Amsterdam and be completely satisfied when you return home. Do tell us openly about things you did not quite like or missed, so we can improve ourselves. "The Library" contains a lot of books and you are welcome to enjoy them. We do expect that you threat them with the same love and care that we have (that would apply to anything else in the studio too ;-). You CANNOT SMOKE INSIDE "The Library", HOWEVER you have access to an outside patio where it is allowed. Do keep your voice down when doing so, to not disturb the people in the other apartments.

Sander and Marijke were great hosts! The apartment itself was cozy and well equipped, and in a perfect location for exploring Amsterdam. Marijke welcomed us when we arrived and gave us some great tips for restaurants, sights, and some off the beaten path activities, including a local street market and a cool brewery!

Sander and his wife were very warm and welcoming, really helpful for directions, attractions and places to eat. 'The Library' was perfect for two and felt really homely. The area is quiet, tranquil and very scenic but close enough to the city centre and nightlife. The standout choice to stay in Amsterdam!

The room was great and the private patio was even better. Sander and Maryke made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. Thanks again!

"The Library" is a fantastic place to stay in Amsterdam! It was very easy to get to via public transit from Amsterdam Central. Sander & Marijke were excellent hosts. Check in was seamless & they were there if we needed anything. For us the location was perfect, along a beautiful canal in a quiet neighborhood, but also a close walk to many top restaurants & shops. We definitely hope to stay at "The Library" again when we return to Amsterdam.

Sander User ProfileSander is a superhost.

Hi, I was born in The Hague and have lived in Eindhoven, Utrecht, Chicago (USA), Hasselt (Belgium), Birmingham (UK) and Amsterdam. I am an industrial designer and have been working in industries like consumer electronics, games, mobile phones, and navigation for some 25 years now.

I married on September 6, 1996, with the love of my live: Marijke (a corporate communication expert, but also an excellent cook).

We are enjoying our busy lives in the Amsterdam canal area for over 10 years now. We really love our places and are confident you will too; looking outside the front window you will see a postcard come to live. From our place you can walk to anything worthwhile seeing in Amsterdam.

My personal interests lie in:
•Gaming (consoles, handheld, mobile and PC)
•Design (graphic design and product design)
•Listening to music (80s, 90s, Classic Rock but also artists like Michael Nyman)
•Reading books and comic books (graphic novels) and yes you can browse through a couple great ones if you book "The Library"
•Watching movies (Sci-Fi, Horror, cartoons and Art House)
•Watching Formula I racing.
•My favorite hobby at the moment is: creating CD compilations of my Vinyl Album collection and designing my own covers for them.
•As well as creating personalized paintings, posters, portraits and presentations
