The Global Community in Seoul: Global Fashions and Foods

Itaewon is a unique place in Seoul where one can meet people of diverse nationalities and cultures. There is a popular joke saying that international residents may not know Seoul, but they know Itaewon. Seoul even designated Itaewon as its first ‘Special Tourism District,’ to highlight it as a destination for internationals to enjoy a diversity of culture, shopping, and entertainment experiences.

Itaewon is located in central area of Seoul. Transportation is very convenient for sightseeing and shopping. Most of tourist spots and markets(Royal Palace, Insa-dong, Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun,..) are in 10minutes away by taxi, and 25minutes by subway. Itaewon itself is one of the coolest areas in Seoul and most multi-cultural place full of bars, authentic restraurants, clubs. It's newly recognized area for young people as a popular dinner place. Many restraurants and stores are open 24 hours. The area itself is old so you won't be seeing most modern buildings but you will get a good mix of a typical neighborhood feel and cool restaurant district with character.

The house is 2~3 minutes away from Itaewon Subway Station (line 6) and from the Airport limousine bus stop.

The host does not live in the house.
The Mosque is nearby in Itaewon.

The following is a guest's review:

"While the house is part of a delightfully older street with gorgeous original homes in traditional alleys, it's just a few steps away from the modern streetscape of Itaewon. This is a tourist area with western style restaurants and many American/English speakers on the streets which did make it easy for us to feel comfortable"

"This site might be useful for more local details".

  • Im and Shin were great hosts. I always got fast answers to all my questions and a very nice welcome at the metro station even if I arrived very late.
Itaewon area was a great choice, you can find amazing places to eat around for cheap at anytime.
The room was really nice, clean and cozy, same for the private bathroom. It really felt like home. The house itself looks very local, which gives an great feeling of living the local life every time you go in & out.
Also I asked for the wifi-egg and got it, this thing just saved my life, it was really convenient. The internet connection in the house works perfectly too.
If I come back to Seoul I will definitely try to go back to this place, don’t waist time compare to other offers, you could not regret going there.

  • Im and Shin were terrific hosts. Our flight was delayed by 30 minutes and due to heavy traffic, our limo bus ride took longer than usual. Mr Shin was waiting patiently for our arrival. He came out of the house to show us the way. He also orientated us to the areas surrounding the house.
Replies were swift and prompt. Im and Shin were also very accommodating
The house was exactly what the pictures and description showed. The area is very safe with a lot of shops and eateries just around the corner.
We missed the cosy and warm house (we were there in Dec). We will miss the warm reception and feel Im and Shin had given.

  • Mr. Shin and Ms. Im were absolutely accomodating!
Mr. Shin made sure to pick us up from the Itaewon bus station to make sure we don't get lost in trying to find the place. Ms. Im is always timely and courteous in e-mail correspondence.

Staying at their place made our Korea trip that much better. Thank you again for your help!

  • My wife and I enjoyed our 4-days stay in Seoul, thanks to Im & Shin! Our lodging was the least of our holiday worries. The place was cozy with all the amenities you expect in hotel were all provided for. The guesthouse location is a perfect jump off place to explore S. Korea as Itaewon subway station is just few minutes away. Bars, restaurants, convenience stores are practically just outside the guest house's street. I will definitely recommend the hospitable team of Im & Shin to family and friends. Thank you very much again!

  • Ms Im's guest house was in a very good location just a 3-4 mins walk. Very close to Itaewon Station and many different kind of food places around. Ms Im was really nice and replied to all messages quickly (I'm so sorry because my first message was send at midnight). Mr Shim (her husband ) also nice to picked us up at the Subway station. He showed us where was the limousine bus station. Their Room was cosy, tidy and super clean - much better than hotel. The wifi egg was very useful when you're out. All the things were property convenient. This is my first time to use airbnb and have a wonderful stay. We would like to rental their house again and highly recommend it to my friends.

  • My stay at Im's house just made me felt like home. Mr. Shin was very nice, he personally picked me up from the bus stop early 7:30 in the morning, showed me to the house and showed me to the restaurant that I wanted to visit, although it was very early in the morning and freezing, still he walked with me for about 15 mins, making sure that I find that local restaurant. While I was eating, Mr. Shin went out to get me an adapter, i was so touched by his kindness and courtesy.

The house was very nice, clean and cozy. Well-equipped and free wi-fi. The location is very convenient, subway, supermarkets and restaurants just around the corner.

I will definitely stay at Im's again when I do get the chance.

Great hosts, great house, great location! Highly recommended!

  • Our stay at Im House was wonderful. It was very cosy, we was greeted by Im Husband & he was very nice to meet us at the subway & lead us to their house.

I would recommend their house for big families cos it had 3 bedrooms,it was convenient & you can do some simple cooking if you like. Well equiped with washer.

Location is convient, food & shopping is everywhere & spoilt for choices.
Airport limousine to airport next to train station, takes about 1 hr 15 mins. (15,000 won).

Supermarket round the corner, we can buy anything @ good price.

The cons side- (cos if you are korea drama fan juz like in the movie) the road to their house is not flat, you need to go down the slope twice to reach the house.
Not suitable if you have big luggage
    Old people

But We truly enjoyed our stay, we felt @ home.

It was our 1st time using Bnb, My hubby simply love it. We will use it for our next travel trip & definitely will use Im house when we go Korea again.

  • The location, amount of space and kindness of the hosts were excellent. It even came with some perks like a Lonely Planet guide and wifi. Really recommendable!

  • I stayed alone here for 9 nights in mid October and it was very enjoyable, you get everything that is listed plus an electrical kettle which is a convenience. There's even a free wi-fi service available so you won't have to worry about internet availability.

As mentioned there (email hidden) egg available (which you can use for internet access such as map, e-mail, (website hidden), etc on your phone while out) but I didn't get to use it as I've rented my own phone as I need to have a local number (which if you rent online there will be discounts available, I rented my phone through S roaming for 6400 Won per day + usage charge (The host is correct about cost of renting a phone, I paid 1000 per day because I mainly use the phone for e-mail and map, with occasional phone call and SMS)

The hosts were kind and ready to answer questions, and if you provide your email address or phone number, the host will communicate with you if anything has to be arranged which is very courteous of them. For example they will let you know if the next guests coming so you won't be surprised.

Location is wonderful as well since taxi drivers will know if you say "Hamilton hotel, Itaewon" or "Itaewon-yok" for Itaewon station. So I never feared for losing my way around Seoul. In fact, there were a few guides on Seoul on the table which is convenience so you'll straight away can decide what to do from day one.

I took the limousine bus to and from Incheon which is 15000 won and arrives every 20 minutes, but please don't drink too much as there is no toilet break for 1.5 hours! Mr Shim picked me up from the bus station, so just call him when you arrive

As for buying foods, etc, there is a mart nearby (including a bread stall) and usually open until 11 pm although if you need drinks or quick snacks at odd hours there is a 24 hour mart nearby as well. The room even has a drying rack and few cloth hangers to hang your clothes. If you need dry cleaner, there is one just outside the place (find the shop with label 'setak')

The only downside is that kitchen area and entrance to bathroom has low ceiling (email hidden) person like me but not to worry as I never bump my head against any of it :). But when I left Seoul, I think there is a major renovation with the bathroom, so probably we can expect something in the future!

Weather wise, mid October in Seoul I find is cool hence bring a jumper, jacket and scarf

Overall I really recommend this room for travelers new to Seoul for its location and basic amenities including soaps and shampoos. Although Itaewon is a touristy area, I heavily recommend everyone to get out further than Itaewon to enjoy Seoul more!

  • Me and family booked the entire house for one week on summer holiday. The host was very cooperative and kind, they keep following and accommodating our need. They quickly answer any problem or request.

And as for the house itself, it was very clean and neat. All equipment are well maintained and the facilities are well functioned.

So if you are having holiday for a short/long term and with more people, I recommend this house and contact the host immediately, they might offer special arrangement for you.

    Thank You :D
