We are on the other side of the estuary opposite Lisbon with fantastic views of Lisbon and the estuary from the promenade. We offer all the advantages of Lisbon but without the bustle!
And you stay in a newly refurbished fully equipped apartment.
We own the building shown in the photographs. It was built by my father-in-law in 1935 from the timber of trees grown by my wife's Great Grandfather.
The building was fully refurbished between 2007 - 2012, difficult because of the tenants on the ground floor and basement and because halfway through the City Council decided to build a new market and underground car park adjacent to our apartment, which closed the road for about fifteen months!
PLEASE NOTE 'STREET VIEW' SHOWS THE APARTMENT DURING THE MARKET CAR PARK CONSTRUCTION - OUR PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW HOW IT IS NOW!
But we now have a wonderful square facing us, secure parking, cafés and bars, and a superb fresh food market, and of course the park next to the square.
The square is the social hub of our little town, most weekends some kind of event is staged from live music to plays, performance, brass bands - last weekend was Firemen's Day and we had three bands playing ranging from semi-professional to the wonky almost in tune 'village band' whose enthusiasm outweighed their ability to hold a note.
Our apartment is on the edge of the estuary opposite Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. It is not a tourism town but real Portugal with everyday people going about their business, yet it is only a fifteen minute ferry ride to the centre of the capital. We have three apartments and six bedrooms so we always have room for guests. It is where I go to write so sometimes I'm there and sometimes I'm not, but you are always welcome.
Each of the apartments has two double bedrooms, most with double beds but we also have singles. Some have en-suite bathrooms and some bathrooms are shared. All three apartments have fully functioning and fitted out modern kitchens (except for microwaves!). The loft apartment has a large terrace overlooking the square and an outside barbecue.
We can accommodate infants, cot, baby bath, high chair but only one family at a time.
For more detailed information, including places that might be worth visiting, see our website: (website hidden)
We are about fifteen minutes walk from the ferry terminal to Lisbon (15 min crossing) and buses stop on the opposite side of the square, so easy peasy really. If you are coming by car, the underground car park is immediately in front of the apartments.
The café downstairs can provide breakfast for short stays (€5) or you can self cater for longer stays.
The apartment is in the centre of the town and occupies (if I say so myself) the perfect spot from which to enjoy a real Portuguese cultural experience. Every amenity is literally at the doorstep and the nearby shopping centre boasts twenty or more restaurants most serving traditional three course Portuguese meals for about €7 per person, if you don't feel like cooking.
You are 200 metres from the promenade overlooking the river and Lisbon, there are clubs and bars along the water front, a Jazz Club just around the corner, gymnasia and a swimming pool.
What makes us unique is that we are Lisbon without the bustle and energy sapping heat and noise of a capital city.

Interaction with Guests
Sometimes I'm there, sometimes I'm in the UK.
The Real Portugal! Town square outside the apartment dotted with cafes, wonderful park next to the square. Fresh food market adjacent to the apartment. What more could you want?
Frequent buses from the far side of the square to the ferry terminal (5 minutes max). Ferry takes you to the historic centre of down town Lisbon in 15 minutes.
Other Things to Note
Great for kids!
Most of the time you will be staying in an apartment by yourself. At busy times you might be sharing. We expect all our guests to be polite, courteous and considerate.
We do not allow smoking inside the apartments.
El piso era fantastico aunque el barrio tenia muy poco que ofrecernos. Siempre teniamos que irnos lejos para disfrutar de playa y ocio.
That Apartment is really perfect! We had a wonderful night. We will come back hopefully to see more of Lisboa!
We spend the first week of May 2014 with family from abroad and familiy living in Lisbon / Barreiro and had a fantastic time. Not only because of the weather: the apartment was much more complete equipped and well located than we expected.
We rented apartment G from the owner Will. The apartment - second floor - was big enough for all ten of us (4 children aging between 1 - 6 and 8 adults) because of two bedrooms with bathroom, a large living and a roof terrace.
In front of the house is a nice and well maintained park with playground for children and a square with terraces / bars and the local (food) market. In five minutes fresh bread and fruit on your table :)
Furthermore, within a 5 minute walk you can shop at Forum shopping centre, or (the other way) to the coastline. You cannot go into the water from here, but the view is amazing and there is a new road to walk or ride a bike. The houses along the coastline of Barreiro are being renovated now and it looks promising. It was really nice to spend some time watching the (fisherman) boats on the river Tagus.
Every 5 minutes a bus stops at the other streetside of the apartment (across the square) and almost all go to the fluvial terminal of Barreiro. From there, the boat - with many departures - takes only 20 minutes to reach Lisbon, were it leaves you in the heart of the commercial and historical centre.
The location of the apartment is perfect. In a lively surrounding, but no noise of neighbours or from terraces. And absolutely close to Lisbon.
We did not rent a car this time, but the area (beaches, natural parks, cities) around Barreiro, District Setubal, is really worth to pay a visit. A part of the family came by car from The Netherlands and left the car in the secured underground parking beneath the market (only 50 metres from the apartment). They paid only 5 euros per day.
Our first contacts with owner Will were from the beginning correct and friendly. We noticed that Will quickly responded to our questions asked by mail. After completing the booking we received a detailed document with all (touristic and travel) information needed.
Will, thank you for the good time we had in your great home and we will pass it on to our friends and family who love Portugal. Hope we will come back to enjoy again our favorite coffee Galao with Pastels de Nata :)
