The Space

While other local listings offer tiny cottages, we offer a large house on several acres for the same price. And we've recently made all new kinds of new upgrades listed below.

Amazing vistas of the valley.
Majestic old growth redwood forest on our property.
We are nestled right between the oldest vineyard in the valley (Husch) and the newest (Angel Camp).
And we are walking distance to the world famous Roederer Estate as well as Navarro Vineyards, Phillips Hill, and Champs des Rêves.

We are a comfy modest farmhouse with some quaint features like a wood burning stove and vintage plate ware. But we also have modern amenities like wireless internet, space heaters, washer/dryer, microwave, gas stove, toaster oven, and coffee maker. And we've added new games like Nintendo 64, darts, and tons of board games.

It's a farm not a hotel, so the property is kept pretty wild in its natural state. The grounds are lush and green in winter and spring, and dry and yellow summer and fall. Temperatures swing dramatically year round: chilly nights and warm days are common.

The caretaker lives in a separate house on the property and is available to attend to your needs with enough notice.

Wireless internet in the house.
Cell service good for Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. AT&T is spotty.

Master Bedroom - 2 Queen size beds, cable TV + DVD player, large closet.
Guest Bedroom - 1 Full size bed, large closet.
Living Room - 1 Queen size pull-out bed, huge room with corner couch, cable TV, DVD player, Game table, video games, and fireplace.

Plenty to do in the valley: wine tasting, romantic dining, cellar tours, brewery tours, hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, fishing (ocean/lakes/streams), kayaking, birdwatching, mushroom foraging, hunting, coastal drives, state parks, or just relaxing.

  • Our stay at the farmhouse was amazing. Everything we needed was at the cabin; even all the firewood was chopped and the fires we made filled the house with heat. We enjoyed our stay; the movies and games provided were perfect for a cozy getaway. It was definitely a wonderful farmhouse, location and vacation getaway. The whole property is beautiful and serene. Our group of friends, recent college grads, will surely book this cabin again in the future. This farmhouse is perfect for everyone, young and old. Chris was very helpful to distribute the house manual/rules as well as suggestions for us to do while in the area. He was readily available for any questions we had. We prepares all of our own home cooked meals and enjoyed them both in and outside of the house. The house itself has history and you can see it in everything that it has and it made us cherish it all even more. We will be back and plan to bring more friends to enjoy this farmhouse experience. We are very thankful! Good vibes all around! :)

  • I was looking for a nice, quiet getaway for my girlfriend and I just for the night and Christopher's place fit the bill. We had a limited amount of time so I emailed him some questions about local resources and he was great in getting back to me with some great suggestions. We loved Toulouse Vineyards. The other reviews are correct, this is not a fancy place, but it was well located near Boonville and lots of wineries and it's quiet and clean. We really liked the fireplace and the board games. I'd also say to people that mentioned that there is no heat except the fireplace that there were two space heaters in the front closet. Thanks Christopher!

  • An old school farm house with plenty of character. If you prefer the lap of luxury look elsewhere. But if you like lots of charm and a sense of history, you'll enjoy your stay here.

  • A group of us from San Francisco stayed at Chris's Anderson Valley home for a weekend. Overall we had a very pleasant experience. The location is very nice: close to Anderson Valley Brewing Company, surrounded by vineyards, and near Hendy Woods State Park. The accommodations were as advertised: on the older side, but generally warm and clean. The kitchen/dining room is spacious and there is a very big table that serves well for a group dinner.

If you are planning a weekend with a group, I'd advise bringing an air mattress or two, as there are only two bedrooms. If it is going to be chilly, ensure someone is proficient in fire making, as the two fireplaces are the sole source of heat for the house (they work quite well when you get them going).

The home can be bit tough to find, so take note and get good directions if you are arriving at night.

We never met Chris in person; the caretaker lives in a small ramshackle home 50 yds off to the side, and he is amiable and keeps to himself. But Chris and I did exchange emails before the weekend and he offered a few suggestions for things to do and also hiking trails, which was very nice of him.

If I was planning another group weekend up in Anderson Valley I'd certainly consider returning - overall we had a great time.

  • Chris was an excellent host. He was super responsive to all of our questions and requests. Booking was easy, and his directions and instructions were good. Ted, the caretaker was very nice and accommodating, but not intrusive in any way.

Chris's house was great - exactly what we were looking for. It was within easy striking distance (2 hours) from our home in Oakland. Shortly after leaving the 101 and heading west on the 127, you feel like you are entering another world. The Anderson Valley is truly gorgeous - redwoods, farms, open space, vineyards/wineries and breweries, easy access to the coast...all that is incredible about Northern California.

The house is just a little ways down a (well maintained) short dirt road off of 127, right between Husch and Phillips Hill. The house has all of the essentials: a full, well-equipped kitchen; washer/dryer; internet (accessible from only in the kitchen); TV with cable, DVDs and video games; stereo with iPod/iPhone dock; plenty of hot water, beds, towels, blankets; local information, etc. There is ample space to sit outside have a beer/coffee, look at the stars, eat a meal on the picnic table, play horseshoes, check out the duck pond, read a book, or just enjoy nature.

The house itself is definitely rustic, which is what we were looking for. There is no central heat, but there is a space heater, a wood burning stove, a large fireplace, an ample supply of wood, and plenty of warm blankets. There are grocery stores and markets in all of the nearby towns (Philo, Navarro and Booneville), and restaurants (mostly in Booneville) as well. Wineries are everywhere. Breweries in Booneville, Ft. Bragg, Cloverdale and Ukiah. Great hiking in Hendy Woods, Montgomery Woods, and three state parks by the town of Mendocino. Beach/coast access is just 25 minutes away, including an amazing drive through Navarro Redwoods State Park. In fact, just about anywhere you drive around here is amazingly beautiful.

In sum, if you are looking for a place to be relatively off the grid in a beautiful, country setting with easy access to wineries, breweries, the Mendocino Coast, great hikes in the redwoods and easy access some of the best of what Northern California has to offer, this is a great spot. If you are looking for a fancy place with all the latest, modern amenities, this is not for you.

My family and I will certainly be back, and we've already recommended this place to our friends.

  • This place is in a great location. Hendy Woods, Vineyards, craft beer and antiques are all right outside your door.
Like others have noted: The Internet is extremely slow and the cabin is rustic. We found the beds to be very comfortable and all the sheets and pillows are nice. The grounds are lovely and sunsets - not to be missed.

  • The farmhouse was a really nice and quirky place to stay for Labor Day weekend. We were able to visit a bunch of wineries and ended up going to a blues concert at the Navarro General Store which was a lot of fun.

Chris had a lot of brochures available as to what there was to do and we booked a sea kayaking adventure for Sunday morning which was incredible. We saw harbor seals and jellyfish and went through some caves and I was really impressed by how close the ocean was to the location of the farmhouse. It's about a 45 minute drive to the coast and it winds through an incredible redwood forest.

Overall, this was a great place to stay and explore the area. I would definitely recommend it to people. The only downside was that the wineries, while being close enough to walk, weren't safe enough to walk to since the road was a pretty busy highway.

  • The house was in the perfect location, very quiet and peaceful. It was big enough for 6 people comfortably and had a very homey feel. Lots of space to hang out outside and enjoy the beautiful Anderson Valley weather and a fire at night. It was only about 15 minutes to Boonville, where we had so much fun at the Anderson Valley Brewery and the Boonville Hotel for dinner. It was great to come home to a "home" rather than a hotel room. I would definitely come back and recommend this place who would like a relaxing weekend without feeling too far away from home.

  • Our group really enjoyed staying at this home; we picked apples and pears in the beautiful orchard, and sat outside on the big back porch looking at the gorgeous view. The house was large and very homey, a lovely place to stay in. There was someone on hand to help with questions we had as well. Also a great area, lovely countryside and views. Recommended!

  • We loved this house because

    1. It's location! Great views and centrally located for wine tasting.
    2. It's super quirky and has lots of character!
    3. The host is super attentive and helpful!
    4. There are great movies to see and horse shoes outside!

The only reason I'm not leaving 4 stars is I thought the price was a little too high for the amount of beds (we had to bring an air mattress for our kids in the living room) , but in all other respects, I highly recommend.
