Built in 1925, Maybecks' “Cubby” is your own private, rustic, 750 sq ft, carriage house located less than a mile from Cal. Homey and basic - the deck is great for lunch, dinner, or just laying about. It's easy walking down to the gourmet ghetto, markets, buses and BART, but a car is recommended as it is located in the hills. Not baby proofed, minimal fencing - so sorry, no pets, babies or toddlers. Finally, smoke free, over 25yr preferred.

The space
The Cubby sits on Maybecks' original property. The main house burned to the ground but his carriage house (Cubby) survives. Great walks to the Rose Garden, Greenwood Commons and Bay views from the deck. This neighborhood is Maybeck country and many examples are within walkings distance. I house a small library of Maybecks' work and hiking/walking guides. Please be aware of the strict cancellation policy. Traveler's insurance is advised.

Where you’ll be

Berkeley, California, United States

The trees and the views are beautiful and it's also so close to all the action - Chez Panisse, Saul's, Butcher Shop, Gregoire. You can be in the city within thirty minutes or less. BART is close by, and 4th Street - a short drive, is a fun hip, shopping and eating experience. Betty's Ocean View Diner, great for breakfast. Back at the property, the Campanile bells will chime for you - it's just the best.

A former Communications Director, I enjoy modern architecture, good food, friendly people, popular reads, consignment shopping, biking, outdoor markets, flea markets, gardens, the theater. When I come to town I like to check out exhibits, film, music, fashion, anything I might not see in my hometown. Very open to learning something new.
