Apartment - Private room · W Lakeside Pl, Chicago, IL 60640, United States

A bright and cozy bedroom with plenty of storage in a vintage building Room is geared for the single, female guest and is located on a quiet street, within walking distance to the park and Lake Michigan. Easy access to downtown bus and train lines.

The Space

Apartment is on the second floor of a vintage building that is located in the Uptown Neighborhood (4800 North, off of Lake Shore Drive).Unusually large apartment - plenty of private places to hang, read, relax. Private room with twin bed is bright and overlooks the front porch. The addition of a 48" desk and a mirrored vanity in December 2013 has created a bedroom with plenty of storage space for belongings big and small as well as a comfortable place to study or work. The room has its own air conditioner unit, space heater and humidifier. High-speed wireless. Share the bathroom with the owner (I promise to keep it clean). Share apartment with Scout the dog.( He has become the highlight of the stay for some of the guests and contributes to the homey feel of the stay with his excited welcomes and funny antics.)

Plenty of sheets, towels, blankets, pillows.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the kitchen (and everything in it), dining room, bathroom and living room plus front and back porch. Also, the laundry facilities are in the basement and access to the laundry room is also included. My bedroom and office are off-limits.

Interaction with Guests

I will be present throughout the guest's stay in 99% of the cases. I have been known to go away for a day or two but it is not on a regular basis. My interaction with guests vary depending on the guest. I've gone sightseeing, out to dinner, on car rides, grocery shopping with some and others, we are like ships passing in the night. It is based on how long the guest is staying, reason for the stay and interests. I am always available and very willing to assist in any way I can.

The Neighborhood

Uptown is considered the most diverse neighborhood in Chicago. There are a wide range of ethnic restaurants within walking distance to the apartment - Ethiopian, Indian, Mexican, Nigerian, Sushi, Thai, and Vietnamese. The Uptown Entertainment District is home to various music venues, nightclubs, restaurants and theatres. The famous Green Mill Jazz Club, which offers jazz 7 days a week, is 4 blocks from the apartment. Uptown is also a stop for Chicago Gangster tours, with many locations tied to infamous gangsters such as John Dillinger, and Al Capone. As in any big city, it is important to beware of your surroundings when walking at night. Uptown is a great location for jazz buffs, people who like to run, ride a bike and that needs access to tourist sites while not be in the middle of them. The apartment is walking distance to Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan. It is a 5 minute walk to the running/bike path and 10 minutes to the beach. There is a DIVY bike rental available 1/2 block away and guests enjoy the option of sightseeing while getting their exercise. for the routine necessities the following are all walking distance from the apartment: Walgreens/Pharmacy: 1/2 block away
Starbucks: 3 blocks away
Jewel-Osco and Marianos Grocery Stores: 4 blocks away
Target/Aldi's: 6 blocks away

  • Thanks Gail for an excellent stay. Your home was comfortable and welcoming. It was a great introduction for me to airbnb.

  • Gail has a great location in a charming building an easy bus ride (#146) to downtown and all of Chicago's major attractions (check the CTA website - you can order a pass which they will mail you at no charge). The apartment is spacious and has verandahs in front and back to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine. Although she wasn't able to greet me personally on my arrival, Gail called me in advance and arranged my welcome and keys with her neighbour (who even carried my bag upstairs!). Scout is a sweet and friendly dog who will welcome you home quietly each day, after the intial excitement of the first meeting.

  • My stay at Gail's was very pleasant and one I will never forget. Her apartment is quite a trip from O'Hare, but not a bad one. She offered to give me a tour of the neighborhood and accompany me to Walgreen's, which I really appreciated, but politely declined. I would definitely stay with Gail and Scout, the dog, again!

  • Lovely apartment very close to the Red line trains into Chicago. A bit of a trek via public transportation from O'Hare to the apartment, but once there it's very convenient.

Gail is very personable and friendly.
