Apartment is on the second floor of a vintage building that is located in the Uptown Neighborhood (4800 North, off of Lake Shore Drive).Unusually large apartment - plenty of private places to hang, read, relax. Private room with twin bed is bright and overlooks the front porch. The addition of a 48" desk and a mirrored vanity in December 2013 has created a bedroom with plenty of storage space for belongings big and small as well as a comfortable place to study or work. The room has its own air conditioner unit, space heater and humidifier. High-speed wireless. Share the bathroom with the owner (I promise to keep it clean). Share apartment with Scout the dog.( He has become the highlight of the stay for some of the guests and contributes to the homey feel of the stay with his excited welcomes and funny antics.)
Plenty of sheets, towels, blankets, pillows.
Guests have full access to the kitchen (and everything in it), dining room, bathroom and living room plus front and back porch. Also, the laundry facilities are in the basement and access to the laundry room is also included. My bedroom and office are off-limits.
I will be present throughout the guest's stay in 99% of the cases. I have been known to go away for a day or two but it is not on a regular basis. My interaction with guests vary depending on the guest. I've gone sightseeing, out to dinner, on car rides, grocery shopping with some and others, we are like ships passing in the night. It is based on how long the guest is staying, reason for the stay and interests. I am always available and very willing to assist in any way I can.
Uptown is considered the most diverse neighborhood in Chicago. There are a wide range of ethnic restaurants within walking distance to the apartment - Ethiopian, Indian, Mexican, Nigerian, Sushi, Thai, and Vietnamese. The Uptown Entertainment District is home to various music venues, nightclubs, restaurants and theatres. The famous Green Mill Jazz Club, which offers jazz 7 days a week, is 4 blocks from the apartment. Uptown is also a stop for Chicago Gangster tours, with many locations tied to infamous gangsters such as John Dillinger, and Al Capone. As in any big city, it is important to beware of your surroundings when walking at night. Uptown is a great location for jazz buffs, people who like to run, ride a bike and that needs access to tourist sites while not be in the middle of them. The apartment is walking distance to Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan. It is a 5 minute walk to the running/bike path and 10 minutes to the beach. There is a DIVY bike rental available 1/2 block away and guests enjoy the option of sightseeing while getting their exercise. for the routine necessities the following are all walking distance from the apartment: Walgreens/Pharmacy: 1/2 block away

I was only in Chicago for a short while, but it is truly an amazing place and I felt right at home staying with Gail and Scout in their lovely apartment. Excellent links into the city centre and a short walk to the lake and lovely beaches. Gail was extremely helpful, showing me around the local area and helping me with the public transport. I couldn't recommend her enough! Thank you Gail! :-D
I din't get to see Gail a ton due to my crazy schedule and the fact that I never really adjusted to the time change but when I did see her she was just wonderful! She makes her home such an inviting place to stay and is a great host. I totally recommend staying with Gail and Scout (the pup) to anyone.
I didn't get to spend that much time with Gail since we were operating on opposite schedules, but her place is great, spacious, and quiet. Perfect if you're just looking for a place to crash at night. Not in the heart of the city, but its a 5 minute walk to the red line and a 20 minute commute by train so if you're willing to plan out your trips to the city it's worth the stay here!
Gail is an adorable host! Her place is clean ,comfortable, quiet and located close to public transportation and only one block away from the beach. Although I arrived late at night, she picked me up which was really nice. She gave me a great tour of neighbourhood and around my work place and took me to grocery on my first day of stay. She was really nice, helpful, easy to talk and had lots of amazing stories. She showed so much care, helped me a lot in finding a new place. I love Scout! He is funny and kind. It was my first time with Airbnb and Gail made it pleasant for me. I really enjoyed staying there and definitely recommend it.
The reservation was canceled 61 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This was my second stay with Gail and it was lovely to see her again and be welcomed at the door by tail wagging Scout! Everything was in order and I appreciate Gail's' flexibility with check in and check out. I will likely be back again.
Gail is really nice!!! I have spent my time in Chicago with her and she is great!!! It´s very good host!!
I´ve living with her for a while, and she made me feel like at home!!
The house it´s great, the place is quite and the metro is closed!!
The lake is near the house, and the views are amazing!!
The apartment is lovely. Gail is easy going and Scout is very nice to have around. It was an easy walk to get to the lake.
Thanks Gail for an excellent stay. Your home was comfortable and welcoming. It was a great introduction for me to airbnb.
Gail has a great location in a charming building an easy bus ride (#146) to downtown and all of Chicago's major attractions (check the CTA website - you can order a pass which they will mail you at no charge). The apartment is spacious and has verandahs in front and back to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine. Although she wasn't able to greet me personally on my arrival, Gail called me in advance and arranged my welcome and keys with her neighbour (who even carried my bag upstairs!). Scout is a sweet and friendly dog who will welcome you home quietly each day, after the intial excitement of the first meeting.
